Today is World Environment Day being marked under the theme Land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. It is a call for us all to take environmental action to create a more sustainable world.
For us at Safaricom, we are committed to be a Net Zero Carbon emitting company by 2050. Part of our strategy involves growing 5million trees by 2025.
To implement this strategy, we signed a framework with Kenya Forest Service in 2022 for reforestation, protection, and conservation of 5,000 hectares to support national efforts of achieving and maintaining at least 30% tree cover, offset Safaricom’s carbon emissions, and support livelihoods of forest dependent communities.
