You also need to enable the permission to allow boot from external drive and change security to medium to allow any version of macOS. Key piece of info missing from this process that added extra steps for me.
I am considering going back to Monterey. I have a M2 Max Studio and I have little issues plaguing me on Sanoma, from file transfers to slow apps. Ventura wasn't better. I love all the new qol updates, but I hate the new settings menus and Mission Control is real glitchy some times. Thanks for the great explanation!
Thank you! I've gotten pretty used to the settings menu at this point although it was a bit frustrating at first. I feel like that Max Studio should run Sonoma pretty smoothly but might be worth a shot downgrading if you really don't like it. Good luck with the decision!
@@KrisLuckPhoto mine as well, and when I try to connect to my NAS it creeps. At first I thought it was my NAS until I connected to it from my windows laptop and it works fine. I was a macOS fanatic but lately ….
I bought a used Macbook Pro mid 15 and the keyboard is unresponsive as is the trackpad. I'm now guessing it's because they had upgraded it to Sonoma via Open Core. It was not running smoothly at all, constantly freezing for seconds at a time. I'm now looking into downgrading. Have you found a solution to the keyboard issue?
@e.v.i. Yeah, I did a clean reinstall (back to Monterrey) then everything worked fine, however, the special characters were a pain in the ***. No matter if you connect a wireless keyboard for some reason the delay made it pop up (like the special keys in mobiles) So I ended up in a forum and found out the terminal code to turn them off for good. If you're going to stick with the stock keyboard is not necessary to turn them off, but if you want to use a wireless keyboard you might want to have this trick on hand.
@@bjjm9772 Oh, thanks, i'm still trying to get back to some OS that will work for starters, but i'll keep it in mind. This is a whole new level of messed up I'm dealing with here.

I'm so close! When deleting "Volumes" in Terminal to be replaced by the name of my new drive, it just says "An error occurred erasing the disk." What should I do??? You're the best! Thanks a million!!
Thanks !!! Can't believe it actually worked 😃!!! So far...Sonoma seems good 😇. Will Update soon : Regarding Battery Life 🤗. Edit : Updating ---> I bought my M1 Pro MacBook Pro having macOS Monterey 12.5 installed on it (by default)...& the Battery lasted Full Day . Then I upgraded to macOS Monterey 12.7.4 , cause I thought about Security concerns (Note : It wasn't a lean install....I just clicked "Update") & gosh...the battery life was so trash...!!! Now following this video...I clean installed macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 & my battery life is back to normal lasting full day...😃👍🏻.
is this a joke ? I have a Mac that is on sonoma 14.4.1 too and the battery life is trash, im pretty sure most people would agree that upgrading to newest versions actually make the battery worse not vetter
@@doggydoggy578 Agreed !!! Most people have this issue. You are true a 100x times. But that clean installation thing did worked. I'm getting normal battery life like I used to get on macOS Monterey 12.5 (with which my Mac came...with great battery life). Cause I don't think most people clean install their macOS.
I updated from Sonoma 14.6 to 14.6.1 and now I can’t get ANY WiFi. I’ve tried several different fixes but nothing is working. There aren’t ANY available networks and my Mac won’t even recognize my hotspot. I can’t downgrade cuz I have no internet. Any ideas?
It was just a joke haha, but no I didn’t have a backup. Luckily because I work in audio I can work out of a seperate hard drive, and have done so to keep the computer as free as possible. Just had to spend a whole day redownloading all the plugins I bought.
I have ugraded my mac 2019 13.1 ventura to 13.6 ventura and my mac is not running correctly after 1 or 2 minutes it stuck and then retarts automatically and then I saw error and then it tries to restart again and when I tried to go to dist utility by pressing command +R it shows a glob and a bar but it is not showing disk utility and also even after doing that it is not fixing.
Am i able to do this without it wiping my boot-camp partition? im downgrading my 2014 macbook pro from big sur to high sierra for 32 bit support and also to have iTunes back.
hi can you help me with my problem? My macbook pro was perfectly fine in Mac OS Mojave but it asked me to update to ventura. Im back to the black screen and went to apple and they said my hard disk got damaged due to the update. Cant I just reinstall my old Mojave back?
hey thanks for the great content. I have a bit of a an issue and i was wondering if you've you've seen this before. I installed the core patcher to update my ios on an imac 2015. it worked well for a while but after a month or so the performance wasn't great things where taking a while> I decided to do an update and having done the update using the core patcher and the update from system settings everything seems ok until I sign in. Once I sign in after about 30 seconded I get kicked out. I can sign in again but shortly after I get kicked out back to the login screen. At the moment I can't downgrade and I at a bit of a lost on what to do, have you ever seen this before? thanks for the help
Unreal ay. I believe Apple is a company where engineers are fighting to make their mark on software. Instead of focusing on things like considering future support for legacy protocol like FireWire audio (completely abandoned with no explanation), development focuses on making minute cumbersome changes to give users a continually evolving user experience. Because if it’s new it’s good right? I am getting so sick of the company. I am a long time Apple fanboy, but my support is quickly waning. Upgrading to Sonoma has been an incredibly troublesome experience for me as a working audio professional. My expensive interfaces are now useless and I have to go through the cumbersome process of downgrading to use them. In the process I will wipe my entire computer clean. The mere fact Apple doesn’t make this process easy, whilst allowing the user to maintain their data, shows quite clearly it’s just another tactic to forcefully encourage people to ditch whatever they have an upgrade to the latest hardware at great cost. Disgusting.
@@AnsonAlexander when I did the same steps OCLP was gone but I don't know what is happening I'm using a MacBook pro 2015 but it still showing me to update to the latest version of Sonoma that is 14.4 🤷
Well you can install any OS Big Sur or later so, technically, yes. If your on unsupported Sonoma with OpenCore, you could “downgrade” to, say, Ventura, using OpenCore.
If you need to downgrade your macOS due to issues with an unsupported upgrade from OpenCore Legacy, follow these steps: First, download the correct macOS version for your computer. Then, use OpenCore Legacy to recreate a bootable drive with the same hard drive or USB you used for the initial unsupported installation. Once done, restart your computer. The external USB or hard drive will now serve as a bootable installer for the desired macOS version. Restart your computer, go to Disk Utility, erase everything, and then install the macOS you want. After installation, you should be fine. One important note: it’s wise to let the OpenCore Legacy Patcher team fully resolve any issues before proceeding with upgrades. From my experience, you’re not missing much from the latest update, like Sonoma, apart from some widgets, which are not essential. Your computer is your responsibility, so make informed decisions about your upgrades. Hope that helps!
Hello, i'm so scared of losing all my data. If I follow your first guide will I lose my stuff? I am running AVID Pro Tools and it's not compatible with macOS Monterey 12.7.6 this is what they said please assist - Upon checking, the Pro Tools 2022.5 is not compatible with macOS Monterey Version 12.7.6. We recommend downgrading to macOS Monterey (12.3)
A faster way would be to switch to the OS previous from your actual latest update then go through apple and install the proper OS , self tried and successful
I had thought about going back to Big Sur. Sonoma is nice, but without working bluetooth peripheral support, (Keyboards, Mice) and no Bluetooth wake from sleep, poor 3D graphics stability that causes finder to become unstable and crash, and some other general stability issues i've encountered, It feels functionally less useful than it was on the aging Big Sur OS. I think when Big sur finally stops running the software i need it for, i'm more likely to install Linux on my 2014 MBP, as I just today found out Mixxx now fully supports my DJ Controller (Traktor S4 Mk3) I was already one foot out the door with Native Instruments and considering my next hardware purchase to be a Standalone Mixer, but if the software support for Big Sur gets cut off before i get the opportunity, then I at least have a viable backup plan using Linux. PRAM reset didn't help.
Glad you made this video also! Have to downgrade and hoping it will fix my issues. 😢 In case anyone else is experiencing the same: I have a 2013 MacBook Pro that I upgraded to Sonoma (with your video thank you!!) and lately I’m having issues with things crashing. Right click inside any Finder windows will close the program. Preview and all web browsers I’ve tried have all ended up doing the same thing. Even with multiple restarts and reinstalling Sonoma with a cleared out hard drive. 😢
HI ANSON! Any chance you could help me with this? I’m resetting my MacBook Air (going from Monterey to the factory-original Mojave) but in disk utility I now have a folder called “Update” in the ‘Internal’ section. Should I delete this?
Hi, I put ssd (internal) and hdd (external) in my mac. You said that we need to erase data on the main drive (in my case means my ssd data). Is it fine if I’m not erasing my hdd data?
I'm trying to do this with my late 2017 iMAC. After doing all the steps that u passed, it keeps showing that image of circle with a strip in the middle, saying the iMac cannot suport the macOS Monterey. What should I do?
I cleared my hard ice through disk utility and don’t have enough storage to reinstall BigSur as it says 90GB is taken by other storage but I can’t get rid of it, anyone know how?
Hi there. I want to stay on High Sierra because I want to keep Aperture but I also want to get a new(ish) 2020 iMac. Officially the oldest Macos it runs is Catalina. How (or can) I install High Sierra?
So I updated my wife's macbook 2013 to Mountain Lion... now I cant connect to the internet.. App store wont connnect nor anything on Safari. Happen to have a solution to fix this?
I have a Mac running Ventura and am considering trying out Sonoma. If I make a time machine backup before I upgrade and decide to downgrade again, can’t I just follow this process to downgrade and then restore the time machine backup from the clean reinstall of Ventura?
this is exactly what i have done I backed up my Ventura to TimeMachine upgraded to Sonoma hated it tried to restore from TM but with no luck found this video reinstalled Ventura from USB stick and used Migration Assistant to restore my Ventura backup and everything looks perfect now
