When I watch this, it reminds me of all the work I went through caring for a loved one. Caregiving is hard work. And like this video shows, we need a team to support us care for our loved ones. The Inspired Caregiver was created for the health of the caregiver. We need to take care of ourselves so that we can better care for our loved ones. It's a tough job. Thank you for this wonderful video.

Very helpful! My husband just had back surgery and has Parkinson's so it's a challenge trying to help him transfer without harming his back or mine. I hope to see more how to do transfers...

A sentinel event was issued around 2010 or 2011 where 2 physical therapist were both paralyzed from patients who were being told to put their arms behind the physical therapist neck and upper back and both patients lost the ability to stand up and they put ALL of their weight on both physical therapist necks and BROKE both physical therapist necks and they were paralyzed and it happened within 6 months of each other and you are not to allow even one arm around the neck area anymore

You need a wheelchair that can have the side removed and slide them over to it like a shower chair that you slide on or a patient lift that is good for taking them to the bathroom etc. In 1998 they were $800 each and a nursing home I worked at, I trained CNAs to use the lift and you can lift people from the floor too

Is there a technique which can be used for a double amputee ? Along with the person being a double amputee, they have extremely limited upper body strength due to the fact that they have very little to no muscle mass in that area. It's a great challenge lifting and manuvoring someone in that condition. Can offer any suggestions ?
@AlaricBalibrera
@AlaricBalibrera 6 лет назад
The techniques are designed to be not dependent on strength but not having legs will make the techniques less useful since movements like bed to chair and chair to bath are predicated on the patient having at least one semi-functional leg. The techniques will still be useful with moving the patient up or down in a bed or chair but for larger movement like chair to car I would search online using carefully chosen keywords. You might also search, and I'm reaching here but they are generally more advanced than we are in this area, for information from Germany and Scandinavia. I'm sorry we can't be of more help and very best of luck to you.

It sounds like you discriminate against the disabled people like if they are paralyzed then you supposedly have to FORCE them to keep on moving and walking

It doesnt help much doing the training with people that still have mobility. Try the real work. People who cannt help on the transfer.
@AlaricBalibrera

Incorrect. This training is for people who have some, little, or next to no mobility. It is not meant for moving people in a coma, though it still would be very helpful.
