See this is where you and Scotty are doing so much for the saddle hunting community. That’s brilliant way to increase safety especially for one stick climbing.

I see that. My thinking for this is when I have to go around limbs and need a linesman rope while I move my tether around the branch. I’m using a madrock to descend.

Glad I found this, this is such an awesome simple way to be safer for us newbies.

Bro! I've agonized over ways to render the lineman belt fool proof. I refuse to climb with only it, which makes for slow ascension, but safe ascension. You have answered my prayers. Thank you for this excellent info.

Well I used that rope this weekend on the Linesman’s belt and it worked great!!!! Matter of fact after I hooked my tether I loosen up my Linesmen and left in on. Now I felt I had a great backup in case something happens. Was able to swing around the tree to make any shot without any trouble. Thanks for the help.

The Blake’s hitch with a dedicated length of rope is a great idea. Got something to share I’ve been experimenting with some success. It may be something you may consider. Many times down here in Texas there isn’t a tree tall enough where you find a hot spot. Instead of squatting down behind a smaller tree, I’m tethered to it with my feet on the ground in my saddle to keep it as a buffer and I can move much smoother and quieter than down in the dirt on my knees. It’s working great hog hunting.

I think this is a great idea. I mainly hunt off the ground and recently picked up a saddle. The linesman belt is the only part that I don’t feel confident with. I will be trying out that Blake’s hitch.

one of the best lineman belt tips ever...I use a Delta instead of carabiner. My Delta/prussic set is also used for my single climb/rappel line to assist as non slip in securing main line-bigger Delta clip of the single line. instead of those Gear Ties

Thank you. implementing! Started in the saddle 2 years ago. year 1, prior to season, went up and down practicing in the back yard probably 20 times in the 2 weeks leading up to opening day, no issues, had my process down. opening day, I went out, started climbing, and on the 3rd stick, missed or slipped my right boot off the lower step. My line belt caught, Turned me upside down, but only after letting me ride down 12 fee or so. I ended up upside down with my head about 2 feet off the ground facing away from the tree. Scared the life out of me. Every time I climb I climb that day is in the back of my mind. I wish I had watched this video sooner, that would have never happened.

Glad you lived to tell about it . A fall like that can be completely unnerving ! Makes it tough to ever get back on the horse . Glad you found us. Wish it was sooner also. We have a library full of vids explaining and showing each system . Dive in , get yourself familiar with them and if you have any questions reach out here or our Facebook forum page under the same name . Ps I’m coming out with a system for the stick climbing crowd that will allow them to advance your life line up the tree as you stick climb and never be at risk of a fall from a slip or equipment failure . Not to mention an awesome way to descend at the end of your hunt and stop at each stick for retrieval if you choose. This system will fit in a cargo pant pocket or stow in one of your saddle bags Welcome aboard Jason !!!

@@NYSaddleHunter Thanks for the reply! The fall was scary, but it did not keep me out of the tree, Im in my saddle 1 to 3 days a week, just very mindful of my moves up and down. However, I am looking to move to one stick with repel, for next year, which is how your videos ended up in my feed. After watching many videos, i feel like being tethered and tied in to the bridge for the whole climb is safer than a linemans. Additionally, we hike...ALOT, on public land, and it is time to reduce the weight. Thanks again and will keep watching!

Joe, I have been using my tree squeeze for a while now, and it works great. It is definitely safer than just using a lineman’s rope alone. I also use it as a redirect if I need to go around a limb while climbing. Good stuff!👍

Thanks for all your helpful videos you guys are why I started saddle hunting and I love it. Even use the saddle when hunting from the ground. Had a Bobcat walk down a fallen tree 3 yards from me. Just a little nerve racking.😲

Great video. Using the rope and 2 blake's hitches is a really smart idea! Thanks for posting!

I remember a video u took of Scott doing a MRS climb on a leaner. It was more about using a 🌳 squeeze @ hunting height. It was more about using a prusik with a carabiner on one side rather than the other so gravity wouldn't take over & swing u over to the wrong side of the tree. It should be used more cuz u still have movement but not in the direction u don't need to be. Thanks for bringing up other ways to incorporate.

great idea! always leave one side tied on the LB, and tie they opposite side before leaving the group. Be so much easier than battling two ropes while one sticking.

Reminds me of the backrest I ordered with the Aerohunter Kestrel Flex. I never used it but I think I will use this on my lanyard. It would be a great way to descend if something happened to your DRT climbing line. I always thought about that scenario. Thanks, I like the 🌳 squeeze idea with just cord & no carabiner.

I tried something similar. I used a prusik on one side and a blakes hitch on the other side with the rope end going through a rope-man and carabiner. That way the connection is adjustable.

I love your videos thanks for all the great content. I have never felt safe with a lineman’s rope when climbing with my climber so I just use my safety tether and feel so much safer. This year will be first year with a saddle couldn’t I just you my tether and slide it up as I go like I do with my climber? What do you think?
@randallarauch

I just wrap my lineman belt twice around the tree if I’m worried about the rope sliding down

Would crossing the lineman ropes so the both hold equally but grip toward tree if you tension them be an option. Not sure how to do that. Secondly use a steel quicklink to capture both sides where you have the rope? It can be easily removed

I'm curious what your thoughts are on an amsteel bridge. I have the phantom, and I've thought about replacing with 9 or 11mm rope, or maybe a strap. More and more research is telling me amsteel might not be a good idea.
@NYSaddleHunter
@NYSaddleHunter 3 года назад
Ben I like that amsteel is strong light and thin , but I like the thin webbing bridge that comes with the Aerohunter saddles now more. I told Aerohunter they should offer them as accessories so they can be installed on other manufacturers saddles. I've not personally liked the amsteel Adjustable bridges just because I find them a bit more difficult to adjust but its really splitting hairs
