For a larger harvest: plant the saffron bulbs deeper - at least 15-20cm underground, do not forget about watering abundantly (not continuous but at selected times of the year - autumn, spring) ... the soil must also be more compact and moist than loose as here (when grown outdoors in the ground) ... for better results, the tubers should be cleaned before planting to remove the fibers, otherwise a lot of energy will go to the "leaves" and not to the flower. It is also important how they were stored - if you dig them out, then the storage conditions: 25 degrees, a lot of CO2, zero light. Digging and arranging and planting them as you keep them in the ground, recommended every 3-4 years in such conditions :) In 3-4 years the number of flowers should increase (3-4 times).
Good video. Detail information. What is the reason why the dig hole is deep (3" to 4") before place the bulb in hole. My friend told me just 1" deep and place the bulb in and cover with the soil. I am confuse.
