Brother, instead of converting directly to mesh, why not use quadremesh, it creates very good topology. Also, I think such mesh displacement can be done best in software like blender or 3ds max. I use blender because with the help of modifiers, I can easily create such displacement in non-destructive way, even blender has procedural system for creating such displacement maps.
