I was a long time resident. The subway extension did NOT gentrify the neighborhood. What you see in the video is pretty much what was there fifteen, twenty years ago. What the subway did do was make this residential neighborhood a lot more accessible. The minibus drivers were psychotic.
There is nothing to explore in Hong Kong. Property developers have created retail monopolies in the city. Shopping mall and markets are out of date. Bangkok is decades a head of Hong Kong. Shopping malls are like stepping back in time to the 1980's
Employees at shops and restaurants are unhappy and tired due to low wages and worker exploitation. Customer service is terrible compared to Tokyo and Bangkok.
