Sailboat Refit #14- In this video I finally start painting the boat sides. I put 3 coats on then sand with 320 grit. I finish off with 2 more coats that look like glass.

Hey stupid question do you pull the tape between each coat of paint and primer or do you leave it on
@finditfixitsailit9322
@finditfixitsailit9322 2 года назад
You should pull the tape, but it’s not so fun putting this tape on so I leave it until I finish priming or painting.

Can you please tell me what roller cover you used?
@finditfixitsailit9322
@finditfixitsailit9322 2 года назад
I use a small microfiber roller like 1/4” nap for ultra smooth surfaces. I get them at my local paint supply store.

The trick is to use enough thinner

I think it’s a Purdy brand Not 100% I will go by and see when I get the chance and let you know for sure.

Hi which primer/compound did you use? I have a fiberglass skiff that needs a new gelcoat so I'm thinking to use Alexseal instead if it would be quicker and easier to touch up. What do you think?
@finditfixitsailit9322
@finditfixitsailit9322 2 года назад
I think Alexseal paint would be easier than gel coat. You can use the regular Alexseal primer or the high build primer if you want to cover some low spots. The high build only come in gallons though and it’s much harder to sand. I recommend the regular primer.
@TTTT-rc4fv
@TTTT-rc4fv 2 года назад
@@finditfixitsailit9322 Thanks so much! DO you recommend using a different primer to save on cash or is it best to use both paint and primer by Alex seal?
@finditfixitsailit9322
@finditfixitsailit9322 2 года назад
I would use Alexseal primer with the Alexseal paint. Not sure how the paint would react with a different primer and if it didn’t adhere correctly it would cost you much more money and time.
