You commented on my recent Apostle Island trip and I finally had a minute to check this out. Looks great! I would love to join some time. Do you have a time of year you usually go? It would have been fun to "meet" everyone in the video. I'll have to see how much time I can get away for sailing next summer.
We do the 10k Islands in January. We have trips throughout the year- Late Oct to June. Frist week of Nov is Cayo Costa. See this great video for a trip from last year. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TcSaceUfmfs.html
What a great trip! Are you repeating it on a regular basis? Learned to sail on a Wayfarer (W1378) at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron 25 years ago, and did a few trips such as Cayo Costa. Would love to get back into it on the West coast, beautiful scenery.
Join our facebook group- West Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron facebook.com/groups/wctss We have many trips a year, including two down to the 10k Islands. The one in early January is my reasonable response to the Everglades Challenge- the "Lack of Challenge". We go to Cayo at least twice a year, coming up soon in March. Do you have a trailer sailor now or need to get one?
@@SATSelectChoice Thanks for this link! Technically we do have a trailer sailor (Eclipse 21), but for the long drive, getting back to a Wayfarer will be easier. Just need to decide between a Mark IV or previous model.
@@Enicefield I would think availability and budget will dictate which Mark. The Mark 1's are coveted for cruising because of the storage/buoyancy built in for and aft. The Mark 2 is nice because no fwd bulkhead means easier to store/retrieve plus longer oars can lay in boat.
that is just pvc pipe with endcaps. Stainless threaded rog on each end, two nuts, one each side of endcap. One rod straight (port side @ 11:28) and the other short 90 degree bend- goes into lower spinnaker ring on front of mast.
I found this to be unwatchable because the background music is WAY too loud for me. It completely overpowers the commentary and I can't understand the speaker. I enjoyed the scenery though.
I see you been camping over night there, i am planning to go there on my house boat on Chrismass, I have a question, are we allowed do do bun fires, and stay over night in the tent in 10 000 islands?
You can see my video on where to sail in the 10k islands. It's very dry but full of information. The short answer to fires is yes in some places (The National Wildlife Refuge- apx Goodland to Panther Key, NO in the Everglades National Park- Everything S/E of Panther Key. Same answer for permitless and fee-less camping on the islands. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E6YqUI2Y0go.html&ab_channel=Dan
Looks like a great trip. I love the name you came up with for your non-challenge cruise. Great sailing footage. I do have a few questions. 1) Does your Trailer Sailor Squadron have a website, how often do you have trips like this, are others invited, etc.? 2) Do you have equipment requirements like the Challenge that went to Key Largo? 3) Your whisker poke looks like a PVC pipe, is that correct and how did you attach it to the mast? I have a Venture Newport 23 and something like this may work and be simple to install.
wctss.net We have trips throughout the year apx 10-12. No gear requiements- you are responsible for yourself. The pvc whisker pole came with boat. It has pvc endcaps with treadded stainless rod on the ends secured by nuts/washers on both sides. Sail side is stragight and about 6" long goes through clew. The other is bend 90 degrees and goes in Spinaker pole ring on front fo mast.
I brought apx 11.5 gallons plus ice containers (another 1/2 gallon) I used right around 7 gallons- 1 gallon per day. I budget 1.5 gallons per day but almost never use it accept in hot summer.
