Arrivati!
Had a magic last day sailing into Nuku Hiva. Took our time over night and had some adverse currents and confused seas today as we neared the rugged coastlines of Ua Huka and Nuku Hiva but the wind was good and Spirit handled things well. Hard to fault her this trip. The loose lock nut in the autopilot and water ingress through the steering cables were the only two issues we faced over 4200nm and 24 days at sea.
To do this two up with Clo felt like a gift. She’s incredible and I’m so proud of how she’s now making her own decisions on headings and sail trim during her watches. She’s totally competent and gybes the sails and works out what heading is best given the conditions and where our route takes us. She puts a massive amount of energy into provisioning keeping lists and plans of where everything’s located along with an ongoing inventory of how much is left and how well certain things lasted being stored different ways. She’s taken photos of every lunch this trip and I’ll do a seperate post sometime to show her creations. To say we’ve eaten well is an understatement!
For sure my skills in the galley need to improve and it’s something I’ll be working on 😁
Thanks for all the positive messages over the last 24 days it’s really cool to be able to share things so easily with others that love the ocean and sailing.
All the best to everyone from Clo and I!
