The start of my sailing around Britain adventure. I leave my mooring in Suffolk and cross the Thames Estuary to Dover #boatlife #sailing #sailingadventures #cancerresearchuk www.justgiving...
Sam, another great video mate. I always prefer the rawness/reality of your content to some of the other stuff out there. It's inspiring. In fact, this stuff is a large part of the reason I'm currently downsizing. Keep safe buddy, wishing you the best on this challenge.
Thankyou Sam That was an excellent, thorough account of your passage. I've o ly just subscribed but am looking forward to watching your other videos. Good sailing.
Well done Sam. My mate in his Westerly Discus also left Walton 2nd June heading same way but stopped off at Ramsgate. He said it was a great sail but hard work at 70 years young!
Hi mate Just found you on YT I'm a 69yr old Brit learnt to sail at me Daddies knee in a Mirror dingy on a lake in Abbey wood Kent and then on the Thames off the North Woolwich Slip, Up and down according to the tides, And then out of Ramsgate, So tidal flow was a big planning thing, To crewing for yacht owners, the Channel/North Sea, I for recreation sailed the Greek Isles, and the Isles from Split to Dubrovnik,
Well done and in a 22 ft boat. The Irish Sea this summer was horrific. We left 2 days after you and went round the other way. Took us 8 weeks which included a lot of watching bad weather and that was in a 33ft boat
Thanks for watching, agree this year was particularly challenging around weather, August september probably a bit better but days are a bit shorter by then. 😎
I am full of admiration for single handed sailing. Enjoyed your video. We are currently sailing round UK and Ireland. Currently off the west coast of 🇮🇪
Yes the swell outside Dover waiting on departing traffic was not pleasant. An entrance at slack water would have been better or to head offahore and come in via the western entrance, a more direct route into the marina also so likely no delays coming in.
Sorry to have missed you on the Dover stop. The outer marina was empty for a long time due to difficulties with the entry, good to see it being used now. The sea looks quite choppy just out of the harbour most days
Know how you feel. Sailed from Burnham to calais last weekend and left the boat in ramsgate on the way back. These north easterlies have been unrelenting. Waiting till saturday before doing the return leg from ransgate to burnham
@@PillSharks would that be near portbury docks? I’ve been on land near there, going over that bridge near the M4/M5… what makes it so disgusting? And thank you for the message. Forgot to say to the video up loader you are very brave mate 👍. I love water and I’m fascinated by ships and the sea. Don’t think I could sail Alone in a small boat. Good stuff
@@cstew8355 I just drove off Portbury dock! Lol. The reason it’s so murky is it’s the second (some say third now) highest rising falling tide in the world so all the water is pushed up and the channel gets narrower and narrower until the tide because they strong and churns all the silt up. The water is quite clean really but just looks nasty… the shoots which is an area under the Severn bridges has been recorded by the ports survey boat at 16knots on a big spring tide!! Many ships would struggle to push against that!
@@PillSharks that’s interesting that cheers for your time and information. I thought you was gonna say it’s where all the toilet waste goes!! 🙈. That’s interesting to know in regards to the shoots (Severn bridge) you wouldn’t want to try swim that 😆. I wouldn’t last two minutes in a boat on the sea! I lasted less than 5 in a canoe on lake Windermere when I was a kid at camp. Nice one pal take it easy
