Our Goat Island Skiff spends a couple of fun days messing about in the company of some fine sailing canoes. Music: Antoine Dufour "Ashes in the Sea" • Antoine Dufour - Ashes...
canoe sailors always look like the most laidback and relaxed people in the world. They cruise on by while I am trying not to dump what should be a much more capable and stable boat.
I find myself back here, watching your lovely video again! You do a nice job of the camera work, editing video, and mixing the ambient audio with your chosen music. Bravo!
Hi Guys, Great video. I have a kayak with an added mast and sail but it is highly unstable. What is the secret of the stability of your modified narrow kayaks?
leeboards I think. You also need them for going upwind to stop the drift sideways. The wind is light in this video which makes it easier to balance the canoes. Some kayaks are a lot more unstable than others.
The decked sailing canoe is Hugh Horton's Bufflehead design. A lot of sailing experience went into optimizing the rigs. Search for Hugh's Bufflehead and you'll find more info.
The canoes have leeboards. They are on the port side and by chance not visible in any of this video. They are not needed for going straight but are necessary to sail up wind.
