We have recently purchased a 46 ft John Pugh Fairwind Yacht hull to convert into our family holiday shack! Completely neglected with some big mistakes made by the original owner and long since forgotten... she's never even hit the water! BUT that's all about to change!!!
Now we will be undertaking one of our BIGGEST projects yet by converting this lifeless boat into a brand new modern yacht.
Over the next few years we will be going through an extensive sailboat rebuild of this Fairwind motorsailer. Fitting out both the interior and exterior, this rundown sailboat is an empty steel hull that requires a full restoration!
It will be a huge challenge working full time and running our family + businesses, but over the next 4-5 years we will get there... with lots of family holidays to come!! Follow our journey as we build our dream - Sailing Quick Creations.

We have all the insulation to go in just been working on the outside for now. Making the most of the good weather. When the rain comes we will head back inside to start insulation

I just came across your channel; great boat and great work. I am in the process of rebuilding a Koopmans 52 steel ketch and can empathise with everything you are doing. Can I ask how you plan to insulate the inside of the hull? ...and how to secure the internals to the walls and floor. I have a very similar steel floor frame, and built a wooden frame which is bolted to the steel frame with rubber strip between the steel and the wood. I then used captive nuts on the underside of the wood that I can bolt the plywood sole boards to. I had 6mm thick steel tabs made up (laser cut tabs about the size of a credit card, and with tapped holes for bolts). The plywood wall panels are then bolted to the tabs. I hope that makes sense.

Looks great. Is it designed so that you can access under the floor once everything is built in? BTW what is the song in this vid?
@SailingQuickCreations
@SailingQuickCreations 7 месяцев назад
Yes it is designed to lift later still requires modification but so great to be able to walk around easily now 😀

Why not glue the rubber strips to the floor boards?
@SailingQuickCreations
@SailingQuickCreations 7 месяцев назад
Great question! its a lot easier to lift the floor panels up and place back down if they are glued to the stringers, its also alot easier to glue them on to the thin strips instead of the floor :)

@@SailingQuickCreationsYeah, I understand that, but, I was thinking about when you have to paint things again one day, its easier if you don't have rubber strips.

Can you not epoxy the edges to make the boards totally waterproof?
@SailingQuickCreations
@SailingQuickCreations 7 месяцев назад
Yes absolutely that is the plan however we have some more cuts and modifications to make on the flooring around built in items and then we will seal the edges once they are done in the coming episodes
