This sort of video, sets the standard of boat presentation ! a proud CEO sails with, and have a good talk with an experienced sailor ! Most other boat companies does not even get close to this ! Very well done, and the 35 DS is truly a great ship !
Wow, that`s are a great compliment! Thank you very much! It has been a day an exchange I enjoyed myself very much ...and great topics to talk about...I never fail to love talking and dreaming about
A spot on comment, I was thoroughly impressed and inspired of this test run. I will put down this company and boat for a future test after Covid is over. Thumbs up :) TR

Nic guy Torsten. Very down to earth and not dismissive of the fact that sailing on a budget way below the cost of his boats is still an vital part of sailing. Very impressed by him as a person, and by his company and their boats.
Thanks you very much! This is a great compliment and motivation! it´s my pleasure and very easy to get enthusiastic about ;-). I just love what I do. I am glad you can notice this. Best testing. Wonderful conversation. One of the best videos I saw. Marie and Thorsten create a perfect and valuable conversation with a lot of information and!!! The sound is perfect and the voices very smooth. Thanks for that Mast und Schotbruch HNY23

I've falling in love with Sirius DS design since I saw Torsten's presentations on different video's on youtube (and I've seen them all). This one, takes it to another level where one can really picture how it would be sailing around the world on that wonderful cruising boat. When I was a kid (around 8 to 14) I used to go sailing with my father every other weekend or so. Now that I'm 47 years old, and watching this amazing boat, I dream on sailing again. Maybe one day! Congratulations to Torsten and all the Sirius team.

Hope you can come back to your routs sometime soon!
I’ve had boats all my life and have pretty much decided that the DS35 will be my next boat and fist sailing cruiser. I appreciate the quality of workmanship and personal interest of Torsten the owner in making a great boat.
Not only is this boat full of great design ideas, build to high standards and ergonomics, but I am really completely blown away with the accommodation, that you get out of this and also the bigger 40DS. I mean, I have seen 50 foot monohuls, which in all truth offer less accommodation, than even the 35DS do. Especially coffin like, compromised cabins are often a thing in many production boats, no names mentioned.
Now this is how you sell a boat -- it's like I have taken a test ride myself. I like this company more and more, and the DS35 of course. Kudos for the good work and the passion!
For me.. the Best simple single & decksaloon boat I've ever seen [ many things.. all in ONE boat] .!. Bravissimo Sirius werk ! 👏.. Of course to buy.. Of course the most expansive too 😵.. Why the only one ..¿.. .. Words of a Swiss boatbuilder ..
Torstein is an absolute master of his craft - I've enjoyed sailing with him in the past and tried to buy a used Sirius but the owner changed his mind and couldn't bear to sell!
Thank you! me too ;-) ...I might be a bit biased, but I do always wonder who would build ...or buy ...or even rent a holiday cottage …..overlooking a nice lake .................. with no windows???
...and you do get the funniest blank looks if you try to tell a random not-sailor that the special thing on this boat is - that you can actually look out of it - if you are inside

After growing up on container ships, the sea will always be a part of me. And this part is always screaming at me seing and dreaming of this boat! Especially as I am growing up not very far of Sirius Yachts! As soon as I have found a Crate full of Gold, I have just go to order this great boat! Thanks Sirius and Marie for this wonderful video, which again makes my seapart of me screaming! 😉
Thank you. We obviously prefer GRP as a hull material, while aluminium is a great in certain applications, for smaller yachts we feel the downsides outweigh the benefits. We have an article on our website about Aluminium Vs GRP on our website, where we expand on our reasoning. www.sirius-yachts.com/aluminium-v-grp/
You build beautiful boats and you also have some of the best and most informative videos in the market. I also appreciate that both of you did this in your second (or third or more) language. Thank you. No matter what other boats I see and fall in love with I always come back to these. Like others.....as soon as that lottery comes in. :-)
I seen this video many times, love all Sirius yachts, and all videos from Torsten. Hopefully, I can buy one soon. Ok back to work !! Thank for the great video.
This is just one of my big loves. the other one is the swallow yachts baycruiser 26. If the Sirius is a perfect Home, the baycruiser is the perfect tiny house. Actually I can't stop watching videos with the both makers, Torsten Schmidt and Matt Newland.
So glad to see Torsten and his crew innovating in sailing. For years everything looked the same, so much so that I could barely tell the difference between the major brands other than the wood stain and upholstery colors on the interiors. Now, Sirius is giving other designers something new to compete with. 👍
Marie - I really enjoyed your video review of the 35 DS at the boat show and so glad to see you giving additional thoughts on the Sirius yachts! It is great hearing some of your actual cruising experiences and how a Sirius would handle the various aspects of cruising based on your real life experience. Just like the detailed thought Torsten puts into every inch of his boats, you see it again here in the latest videos helping prospective buyers like myself really understand aspects of these wonderful yacths. Even though you can get a much more realistic understanding of Sirius yachts from the videos in this channel than you can with most other yacht videos, I still wanted to see these in person for myself so flew from San Francisco to Germany (as part of a summer vacation) to visit Sirius yachts, see the manufacturing process and experience the boats in person including a test sail. After being enamored with Torsten's videos and his yachts, the in person experience did not disappoint. I first came across Sirius when looking for a boat where my wife and two younger daughters would be less prone to getting sea sick if the weather was a little rough as well as a place they could be warm when it was cooler out. When Torsten took us for a test sail on the Baltic, it was a bit blustery and chilly so my wife went into the deck salon, laid down next to the table and took a nap. She was cozy, warm, and didn't feel the slightest bit sea sick. We found a winner! After looking at countless boats and hearing stories of challenges with quality on production boats (or experiencing ourselves when chartering), I was blown away at the lengths Torsten and team put into truly building these boats to last so much longer than production boats. Whether it is the thickness of the wood (all cut from the same tree with grain perfectly aligned between doors/cupboards, etc), the weight of just the rudder post itself, the huge beefiness and reinforcement put into the stiffness/thickness of the hull, the many ingenious and extremely usable features throughout the boat or back again to the fact you can have a spacious cockpit and/or be inside with true 360 visibility (instead of so many DS boats out there where as soon as you sit down, you can't see out the windows above you or most you can't see forward), it just never ceases to amaze at a place you'd want to be at anchor, at the dock or on passage. Thanks again for your passion for your craft and building such a phenomenal product. We can't wait to have ours!
Great review! Just wondering if you are working with a dealer to deliver the boat to the US and have it commissioned here, or take delivery overseas? I'd love to have one of these fine yachts here in Hawaii eventually, maybe after cruising the Pacific Northwest for a season.
Hi Paul, I've been looking at options to sail it over several years in different trips to get back to the west coast while putting in charter in desirable locations (Baltic, med, BVI) when I'm not using it and doing multiple trips to explore those areas. Having it shipped over is another faster option. There is a 40ds owner in Vancouver bc who sailed it home and he said it was a wonderful experience including stopping in Hawaii on the way back. I did a trip up in BC along the sunshine coast area and this boat would be fantastic for up there. I'd love to make my way up to Alaska along the inside passage, this boat enables travel to so many places in comfort!
Thanks Paul to share al this thoughts with us! It was really greatto have you and your sweet family in Plön and enjoying the second test sail this February in Vancouver!
@@paulmiles6437 If you like to have her deliverd to the PNW, transportation of the boat would be - loaded on a flat rack - either on a Ro-ro ferry into Tacoma or on a cargo Vessel into Vancouver. Other destinations are of cause possible
This has been my dream boat since I first saw it at the Southampton boat show a few years back. Every video I see, I fall more and more in love with the design. I definitely hope to own one in the future. Very well produced video and I love how clear the guys passion is for the design.
Glad you like it and thanks for sharing! ...and boy, I missed Southampton last year!...hope to be back this September. Our favorite Sirius video. The 35ds is on our very short list but at this time (COVID-19) visiting Plon from outside the EU has slowed our decision making process and the opportunity to actually sail the DS. This video has given us the best insight on how the boat sails and addition insight to how Torsten/Sirius approach clients and build. A wonderful blend of product quality and client service. Great video!
Very nice movie. Love to look at the boat going through the Lübeck bay, especially because we will be back on our Sirius 35DS on Friday afternoon for another week. We feel lucky to have found this boat, so we can watch without envy... ;-)

Hoffentlich gibt’s dann nach den nächsten Segelabenteuern mal eine Fortsetzung! Ein paar Videos aus diesen zwei Wochen bei uns sind aber noch in Arbeit…so stay tuned ;-)
What a great video and the most beautiful yacht. I have neither the sailing skills or funds to be anywhere near a boat like this, but a middle aged bloke can dream...
Thank you very much and thanks for sharing your thoughts! I am glad you like it! ...and please keep the dream alive...as one never knows...and somtimes - dreams keep you going!
Irgendwie kann ich mir kein besseres Marketing ausdenken, als Marie eine 35 DS zu geben und sie damit filmend um die Welt zu schicken. Ein Wahnsinnsboot und eine supersympatische Marietim :-)
self tacking jib + furling code zero for the win. jib is only there for close haul, code for close reach to board reach plus light wind conditions. with this set up there really isn't a need for a big heavy genoa. self tack jib is really really good as long as you only use them for close haul. soon as pointing fall off they arent as useful due to side and cut. but they are super good. it's just a paradigm shift in terms of how fore sails are used. 100% recommend over traditional set up.
Thats truly a new standard in yachting. Thats an honest company, typical bespoke German where every square inch is methodically thought out. I would have the biquille bilge keel tri rudder for northern Europe Ireland Scotland France where the range in tide is large and the ability to dry out is paramount for both cost and safety. Any irishman would tell you that the best place to ride out a north atlantic gale is on a bar stool with your boat outside in the carpark. The bilge keel sitting on a triangulation just about achieves this. Well done.

With enough solar panels (maybe sprayhood?) and battery for an electric main motor and stove and a ventilation (maybe air conditioning) this is perfect.
A truly wonderful boat, and - as ever - the presentations from Sirius Werft and Torsten is next to none! The Best I've seen. And Believe me; I've been around searching for the "perfect" full-time liveaboard and ocean capable boat (I know; there is not such a thing as the 'perfect' boat, but... Well, I believe You know what I mean 😊) And, having seen a lot, when it comes to the concept it represents, my dreamboat is still the 35DS, so I Can fully sympathize with the charming Marie! As indicated; my future plans goes in the direction of fulltime liveaboard up here in the Baltic area. As far as I Can see, the 35DS has no hull or deck insulation, but is that offered as an option ? Best regards from Denmark 😊 Christian
Yes there is a lot of insulation in the very core of her build, she is indeed especially constructed for this. Building sailing yachts here in the North of Germany since 50 years now with lots of customers cruising Sweden, Norway and the UK - often living on board all year long this is our special expertise. Deck saloon windows are double glassed. She has a very sound insulation through the whole boat (up to 80mm in the roof alone, and including 30mm Divinycell foam in deck and hull) which is that good, that there is no condensation water at all inside. For customers which like to push boundaries with temperatures below freezing, we do add some extra insulation to the already existing one in front and aft cabin. I was living on this yacht through January and February in Seattle and Vancouver and it was very toasty ;-). We do have customers living on board in areas of thick ice on the water. Good thing is: what is good against cold works against heat as well ;-)
Oh Jesus Christ.... would someone please buy me this boat🥰 Such an intelligent design, and so much comfort even in the harschest conditions, not to mention such a dedicated CEO
Need?? Ttt...this was a (very nice) sales talk. The one that listens and then talks you further into it. A good salesman, and this gentleman is for sure, doesn't force you into anything, but just forgets to mention downsides by telling you how much he will be able to fulfill your dream ...and get your euros out. But hey, if it makes one feel well...
@@fabienh3943 But don`t forget, Sir: You get a wonderful boat, far more than those many `avaliable`, maybe less expensive disappointments in later practical life on board. I was at sea with a very small boat... that never disappointed me. And I can read the difference between a `salesman` and an enthusiastic, experianced shipbuilder. If I had those euros... sorry for this `commercial`...: I would not `get my euros out` to anyone... but I would investigate in this Sirius-Way-of-Life, minding facts: Imgaine bored children and a cold-wet wife in a dark kitchen `underground`, ...all finally leaving you alone with your love to sailing in northern hemispheres. So it`s indeed very nice, what this wise man has to say on board that little ship... as he creates integrative facts into ships. And please mind this, Fabien: I am talking `from board` a Hobie 14, ok ? Because I am not jealous at all, to see other peoples life, including their dreams and wifes and children + dog, being fulfilled on that special Sirius-Level. I am not an advocat for their lifestyle - I just like to see people doing something, they are convinced about. On both sides of any contract, to create a good ship... and then of course I would buy it.

Thanks for bringing us this joyable, informative and nice video..! I look forward, and hoping you Torsten would take the 40 DS on a same kind of tour..!
Wonderful! I’ll be looking for Marie’s channel, and also I live the twin keel design. Where we live on the Hudson River in New York, the tide shift is dramatic, and shoaling is a major issue. Our boat draws only 1 meter, and there have been times where we have touched a sandbar in a channel that was supposed to be 10 meters! 😳 We like to anchor in close to the islands to swim and picnic, and being able to dry out the hull for maintenance would be fantastic.
So glad I didn't go to Lake Union for the boat show and just stayed at the indoor areas. Looks like I saved a lot of money! This boat makes a lot of sense for a cruising couple here in the PNW and cruising the Inside Passage. Fantastic layout. We may take a hard look at this boat in the next two years when we are ready to buy again.
The reception in Seattle was outstanding and I very hard to believe that about 50% of the many visitors did already know about our boats from RU-vid! I am sorry you missed us! The trip up north was stunning in many ways as well and we had it all - from fog and pouring rain, lots of floating logs and minefields of crab pods, 7kn of pushing currents though Deception Sound, drying her out, squalls 30+ knots up to beautiful sunny sails and anchorages. If you like you can some impressions of two of the days including 4 season here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U7Qby0MZ6m4.html I absolutely fell in love with the sailing area and the San Juan Islands in particular. We hope to be back soon. It might be the Vancouver boat show in 2022…
Sirius surely is a fantastic boat yard. The design is thought through - it is probably the world's best construction of a deck saloon yacht. I had the pleasure of testing the smaller version of this boat some time ago and the boatyard really took a lot of time - we spent several hours (!) on the water and I really liked by the boat. In the end our decision taken nevertheless was to the favour of a new Hallberg-Rassy model, more sporty and somehow the wood work also looked nicer inside, though quality surely is at least as high on a Sirius (as is the price which is even higher). Still , Sirius is a great boatyard and their dedication and customer focus impressed me great time.
Thanks a lot for the compliments and for sharing! ...and I am very happy you found your dream yacht! It´s always a pleasure to join customers on their journey...even if it´s only part of the trip. To learn about all the individual requirements and experiences and being part of this dreams and talks and discussions is an reward in itself ;-) Enjoy all this fantastic hours on board!

Thanks for this really interesting, well presented and English language video. Really appreciate the effort and insights offered. Certainly interested in this for my West/East Africa too India and SE Asia tour. THanks
Saw it at the boat show in Germany 2019. I like it, its a bit pricey but all new sail yachts are. Its motorsailer look is very appealing, with all the light and round view in the living. When I'm done motor yachting ( doing that for the comming 3-4 years in Holland and Germany ) its one of the top contenders for the sailing yacht, for my baltic sea trip. I'm also looking at a catamaran for that, but the broad size might be something I am not looking forward to. Lovely looking boat this Sirus 35 :)
Thank you! I am glad you like it! The Sirius 35 DS is in particular constructed "into" the Baltic. For that reason she is only 3,45m in width in the hull (plus 8cm for the rubbing streaks on the widest part of the hull) ….and even with this slim hull it is a challenge in many cute little Danish and Swedish harbours to find a wide enough berth ….. I guess that’s one of the reasons you nearly never see any catamarans in the Baltic
Hey what is this supposed to mean? It was me on the wheel! ...which is a great feature, offered by Jefa-Steering. I always wonder why we do not see it more often. I had first seen it ...and got the idea from a Canadian water plane as the captain ask me sitting next to him "if I like to have a try" and canted the pedestal over to me ;-). But yes, it´s a great feature, offered by the world`s leading producer of steering systems. Have seen it on some race and sporty boats for which is has been invented
Yes, that would have been nice....but this was not trying to be a boat test in any official capacity. But if youfind some official statements helpfull: The 15 or so sailing magazines testing her had obviously been pleased: Yachting Monthly: „Is this the best boat ever built?“, "It`s the highest score we’ve ever awarded, by some distance" (still valid), "the Sirius 35 DS is the best cruiser he’s ever tested.“ "8 out of 10 points in sailing performance(Chris Beeson), Bootshandel: “I was totally awestruck by the small tacking angles we achieved. To convince myself, I checked the results by tacking over and over again. She tacks through less than 80°", Palstek: “The Sirius 35 DS is not only convincing as a high quality, seaworthy and well equipped cruiser, but also is agile and easy to handle even in strong gale conditions. She is a well-controlled sailing boat with a surprising potential for speed.“ There are more test verdicts in our brochure at www.sirius-yachts.com/yachts/35ds/ . You can read more of this test report at: www.sailingtoday.co.uk/videos/sirius-35ds-tested/ I hope you will have a chance to experience it in the future for yourself. You are very welcome!

Another Great video from Sirius yacht company. This would be my boat of choice if I would one-day, go nuts, leave everything behind and go sailing. Perhaps in 10 years...
Hi again Torsten, maybe add a ketch option on that 48 footer to set the interweb and sailing press a flutter. With a swing keel, factory option dinghy divots, factory option streamlined solar choices, water maker option, A/C option, extended range water & fuel tanks, full function indoor steering (but keep the amazing adjustable outdoor wheel, a slightly roomier live space with the ability to minimize the dining table (into a small lower coffee table) - one would have an amazing Caribbean cruiser that can get right inshore, sail the ICW and circumnavigate the planet.
Thx to Marie (was watching her channel visiting the boot fair) I got very much interested in this boat she loves....I went to c ur website afterwards and watch you presenting the 35DS... but this combination of you two was grand 👍🏼. Since about two weeks I am hooked to this idea of starting sailing. Thx to RU-vid there is so much to view & learn...my favorite configuration became a ketch with a center cockpit (to feel save inside I guess) but now knowing the the Sirius 35DS exists...I have a goal. Please keep this fantastic concept !!! Greetings and tschüss NiC

Yes! For me it´s the interconnection between inside saloon/galley/navi - area with the cockpit, with the all-around-visibility really, which makes sailing so much more sociable and safer as you always stay connected and see if help is needed… and you spare yourself some tiring and getting cold as you can be on full alert and safe watch, even from the inside... There is a 40 DS as well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RMcxA5mDPwg.html ...and something bigger to come...
I really like your attitude about being able to sail the boat without an electric winch. Electrical and hydraulic systems fail eventually, or at least when you become dependent upon them. Mechanicals fail too, but not as often.
Nice video and a nice boat. I’m a bit surprised that Marie would choose not to have the self-tacking jib; as the wind picks up it’s good to move the centre of effort back towards the mast, not forward as would be the case by part-furling the genoa.
...it´s also not very nice to the genua ;-) ...but if keeping everything maximal simple and to the necessary minimum you for sure could do with just a medium sized, furler reefing headsail and would spare some weight, money and complication on deck... might be a cruising plan question as well? Following the trade winds needs mainly downwind sails!?
Hi Paul, let me maybe clarify this a little: I like cutter stays as they make for easy switching between sails and possibly better performance (e.g. when close hauled). This setup is more of a Solent rig (hope I'm getting the terminology right), the inner forestay is pretty close to the outer forestay. In a cutter setting the inner forestay can be as far aft as half-way between mast and outer forestay. Tacking with a Solent rig is a little more difficult because you'll have a hard time pulling the genoa through in between the two forestays. So you have to either jibe or roll in the genoa, tack with the main only, and roll the genoa back out again. Since I am pretty lazy I would opt for a single headsail (or a cutter stay which is further back, if that's an option at all). But you know, I was looking hard for negative points on the boat and this is all I came up with 😬. Cheers, Marie ⛵
We have owned other similar sized boats and hands down our favorite sail configuration is a large fully battened main (with slab reefing) and a minimally overlapping 110% jib with vertical battens. Add a good off wind sail such as an asymmetric cruising spinnaker from the fixed bow pulpit and you have a 3 sail diverse sail plan. The beauty of the Sirius line, from our perspective, is that the boat has many options and a builder willing to consider individual owner wish list. All that said, self tacking small jibs make coming about with a sun downer a much easier proposition:)
Thanks for sharing! I am glad you like it! There has gone a lot of thought and work in the design, but behind this stands a big team who all work with love and passion and thousands of owners ideas. Lots of credit to them as well! At this particular moment in time we are all looking very much forward to tomorrow…and you never know...
