That's the same thing I've always thought. Their breakup is so weird…and the legend they both perpetuate of 20 years of not talking it's not true at all. Until 1967 they met often at public events, spoke on the phone, in 1966/67 they even thought of working together again. Their children were friends. There is a photo of Jerry with Claudia Martin together that dates back to 1966/67. Deana Martin still calls Jerry by the name "Uncle Jerry" to this day and still loves it. Then something happened that almost certainly divided them for real. And both entered the spiral of full depression and percodan. Jerry had a valid reason (the splintered vertebrae) but Dean... why? Jerry cleared of percodan in 1978… Dean didn't. It has been a continuous descent of self-destruction for Dean since 1968

Ricci wrote an explanation (obviously being Jeanne's son he hated Jerry even though he was only three years old in 1956), Deana Martin (daughter of that poor Betty woman) gave another explanation (and she LOVED Jerry, she considered him her second father).
