In this video I unbox the Sailor King of Pens Naginata Togi Ebonite Syokei Limited Edition Fountain Pen, discuss its features and compare it to prior releases in the same model line. For this 2024 release Sailor increased the LE number to 500 total pens up from 400, which indicates that these limited edition ebonite King of Pens are selling well. In my example the broad naginata togi nib is a bit cubby with less defined differences between vertical and horizontal lines but that is just fine by me.

Would have loved to see a writing sample with this broad nib. Always curious.

I'll keep that in mind, I'm not really that into writing samples unless the nib is wild.

It's interesting you say that the CC system is one of the best when I consider it Sailor's biggest weakness. I'd take the Pilot Con-70 every say of the week over the Sailor system.

What is the weakness? I’d give Pilot the edge in overall consistency in writing performance pen to pen but the Con-70 itself is not favorite of mine. Both Pilot and Sailor have correctly given great consideration to the nib, feed, reservoir system that ensures excellent writing performance.

@@revolvingpens2341 small ink capacity has been the main complaint. I am interested to know if the new/old naginata nib performs differently however

@@frankq3422 Depends what you mean by old. Nagahara Sr ground his NAG nibs sharper. He’s been gone awhile now. I have an example from the 90’s with an overfeed that is excellent, of course, very precise, but not very forgiving outside its intended placement against the paper. Nagahara Jr has also been gone awhile but overall I’d say there is a trend of more forgiving NAG grinds but I’ve also gone to getting the broad version so maybe I’m not the best judge.

@@jonandresen1483 that's good to know. I like the nib engraving less and less. The old one is more detailed.

Is the entire nib made fro. 21k gold? Or is it only a certain part?

The entire nib is 21k, which is pretty standard for Sailor.

It is not plural... it is and always has been, "... Pen" Thank you. Butchering the Japanese is understandable... the English grammar, not so much.

Not really, quite a bit of marketing material that was translated directly to English from Japanese for the Japanese “profit” (what the 1911 is called in Japan essentially )and some special editions say things like “Fountain Pen King” and “King of Pens”,although it’s meant to be King of Pen.
