I felt like this movie had the potential to be so good, but I felt like there was a lot of missed potential, one of them is not seeing Venus and Mars full transformation when the opportunity was right there. They could have made the fights (especially in part 1) a bit better, even if it was trying to stay faithful to the original, I think the first fight with Iron Mouse was the perfect opportunity to showcase the inner senshi's battle abilities before they got killed off kinda like how they defeated the bonbon babies in the beginning of the SuperS movie (Uranus and Neptune could still join in) also the part when the outer senshi went to their castles in their home planets, it was the perfect opportunity to show them transform

I knew exactly what I was gonna get, so I really loved it. Finally we got to see all the manga things that weren't in the 90s anime! Yeah, I wish we got to see more of certain characters or learn more about certain things, but I already knew that wouldn't be the case. Let's be real, most characters of the main cast already had a concluded character developement at the end of Sailor Moon Eternal. And it's important for the plot and Usagi's character developement that they're gone for the majority of the films. As for transformations, I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, the Innes and Outers got the short end of the stick, but I think it was a good decision focussing more on the new characters. Like, Galaxia, Kakyuu, Chibi Chibi, even Nyanko... so many characters got a transformation for the first time, which they didn't necessarily need to do. Sailor Moon had several transformations, and one of them even had references to her old ones. So I do think they did a really good job with transformations and attacks in these movies.

@@sailorcat Excellent points about the character developments and the introduction of new transformations. (Chibi Chibi’s everything made my heart sing.) I’m just so ready for ten minute transformation sequences, and I would have been happy to watch each one. I realized that when watching "old shows," despite the animation upgrades, I still feel the old-style storytelling. Even though I also knew what to expect, I inadvertently found myself expecting more. Still, I loved every moment!!

I mean, for the most part, the entire Sailormoon Crystal era did the various henshin sequences dirty. But mad props for that one little teensy tiny addition of showing the faces of the Outers when they say "Make Up!!" during their henshin...something the OG anime didn't do, not that it needed to.

I'm surprised you are having that experience. I assumed the newer generation was more aware of the original Japanese names vs those who are 35+ (like me lol 😅) who at times may default to the English Dub names out of childhood nostalgia - even though I am very aware of the Japanese names. It’s pretty tricky navigating the space with as an older fan but so fun to see so many newer fans.

I've seen Sailor Moon Cosmos two parts films the other day on Netflix and while that I do like the up to date designs characters like the Sailor Starlights, Sailor Chibi Chibi Moon, Princess Kakyuu and the Shadow Galactica but I still don't like the ending of the second part film in fact I still prefer from the from the 90's Anime. I mean we never got to see the Sailor Starlights and Princess Kakyuu revive just like Sailor Moon and her friends at the end of the film plus it was never revealed if Artemis and Diana were revived just like Luna. I know the Japanese writer have worked so hard since this is the final Sailor Moon Crystal Series but they really haven't think things throught at all, I'm very sorry but this is my own honest opinion but I still prefer Sailor Moon Eternal two part films over Sailor Moon Cosmos two part films because at least there aren't too many characters killed un like this one.

Honestly regarding the transformations, considering they were just retraces of their Crystal Power Transformations (with petals flowing throughout) I didn't mind the split screen for the inners. But WHY did The Starlights have multiple transformation sequences when the outers had ZERO!! WTF?? As for the story, omg I cried MULTIPLE times. I wasn't expecting to get so emotional about it! Wow!! Especially considering how fast paced it was!! I mean, this is fast pacing done right in my opinion. For me, The Eternal Movies fast pacing was bad. Like... You could VERY easily tell chapter by chapter for Eternal but Cosmos didn't feel like that to me! Overall, like y'all said, MUST WATCH!!

The original Starlight's transformation and musical theme were ICONIC. The revival of Sailor Moon from Crystal to Cosmos has had its ups and downs but one thing that has always been missing to me is the MUSIC. 90's Sailor Moon had so much personality in the score. It was at times beautiful, orchestral, but also funky and experimental. I really was missing the original sounds during certain segments. I am biased as a 90's fan so I didn't really like this "true to the manga" ending we got but I respect it for what it is. I prefer 90's Usagi refusing to fight and let her love for the universe exercise Chaos out of Galaxia. T_T Loved your guys review I agreed with basically all your takes.

@@mostcreative3680 See this is a problem some of you SM fans have that even after 100+ years yall still can't solve. Your mind is constantly in the 90's anime, yall just can't for one second separate that anime from the other versions of SM. The soundtrack is actually very good and the composer did amazing. There's no way in hell it can be called bland. You can think the 90's anime music is superior but for the love of god, try not to bring it up everytime you talk about the reboot. And this Usagi is a much better developed character than 90's anime Usagi btw.

FUN FACT: Sailor Moon: Cosmos is the fifth and final season of Crystal to close this beautiful legendary saga. I'm so glad that we finally got it here in the US on Netflix in English dub. These stories are truly faithful to the manga source material but kept it a little light-hearted and heavy on the darker tones with controversy concept that wasn't in the US 90's original series. The reason why Eternals and Cosmo was made into a two-part movie because the story is short and not enough material to make a full-blown series. The creators and directors of Crystal wants to respect the manga artist work so they didn't want to put any extra fillers in the Dream and Stars Arc stories.

I'll be honest, and I'll preface this with "It's my opinion" - but as an OG fan from the 90s, the entire reboot of Crystal really did a number of my opinion on Toei and Takeuchi for me. This entire reboot lacked heart and love for me, and felt more like a cash grab banking on the nostalgia of fans. I don't feel like Crystal took any risks, did any innovation, it was just a hollow frame-for-frame remake of the manga, and maybe that's what some people wanted from it, but I wanted to see what magic could be done with the new animation technology we have. 1. The music all around is sub-par for the series. The BGM was generic and not memorable. We deserved an Akira Senju or Naoki Satō on this project. 2. New transformation sequences should have been new ALL around, not just trace-overs of the old transformations. Again, give us something new! Give us something fresh! 3. The pacing was rough for pretty much everything except the Death Busters arc. I feel like, for me, I was hoping for them to expand upon what makes Sailor Moon a strong story, keep it more loyal to the manga but flesh things out. Instead the whole thing felt lazy and soulless. The manga wasn't perfect, it had places to improve, and this anime was an opportunity to do that.

(Spoilers) 90’s kids have been eating SO GOOD this year with the resurrection of the 90’s X-Men Animated series and we finally got Sailor Cosmos! I never read the manga, but from what I gathered from the internets, starting with Crystal, the newer iteration of Sailor Moon has followed it more closely. The 90’s Sailor Stars and Sailor Moon S were my favorite arcs of the original anime. So, knowing that Cosmos was gonna be a farewell to the characters for a while was already front of mind. I cried. I cried when the Inner died. I cried when the Outers died. I cried at the Starlights… Diana… yeah… Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. Poor Mamo-chan… I thought his fate was bad in the 90’s… I feel like it was even worse in Cosmos. At first, Usagi’s trauma response felt like it was not really explained well. And I wondered if Galaxia had done something to her with her powers. When no further explanation to that end was given, I just accepted it as Usagi’s reaction to seeing her loved ones go before her eyes. I really loved that we go to see her Earth family again. I cried. Lmao

I'm glad we got a conclusion, but the story's pacing didn't work for me - especially in a movie format. For example, the number of times we visited the school roof only to see the Star Lights suddenly appear or suddenly disappear... during the span of 20 - 30 minutes.... made me think you could turn it into a drinking game. Overly formulaic storytelling like that might have worked in a weekly anime, but seeing it happen back to back to back in a movie just feels repetitive.

I like the review but watching people who loved the 90s anime to the point of using the dub names review Cosmos and compare it to the 90s anime is grating. They shouldn't be compared because they aren't meant to be the same. One is a somewhat faithful telling of the manga, to the point I can actually remember frame by frame from the story. The other was being written at the same time the original manga was so there was a lot of filler adlib added in to pad the story while it was being written.

Thank you for your feedback. The older names are used for nostalgic reference, not for comparison between series types, but I can understand how they could be off-putting. I've included the Japanese names to reduce confusion in the captions, and in the future, I'll make note of the original names in the video. I hope this makes it clearer. Thanks again.

I HATED how she got her wings back this early. Her regrowing them later after regaining hope was highly symbolic. Really enjoyed this review, I loved the movies as well!!! I think the reason for the lack of character development is because the inners already concluded their development in Eternal/crystal season 4. The final arc was purely about Usagi and her journey. Visually, I was very pleased. The galaxy cauldron looked awesome and I loved how Tokyo looked, very 90's anime esque. Speaking of the 90's anime, in my opinion stars was so bad and just a love story between Usagi and Seiya. It barely touched any grounds and the plot was so reduced that it didnt feel like the series finale, it just felt like another season. So glad we have the movies that represent what the stars arc should actually be.
