A review of the Sailor Pro Gear Slim fountain pen in the Shikiori Meigetsu finish with a 14k Medium Fine nib. The ink used is Pilot Iroshizuku Tsuki-Yo and the paper is Rhodia 80gsm Dot Pad.
I only have the one PG Slim ( a gorgeous, pricey, limited edition pen I bought directly from Japan) with a M-F nib. Writes a rather fine line, but with good flow and just consistently nicely. I quite love it. And will always keep it. But I still prefer the slightly longer and wider standard Pro Gear - and more importantly the bigger 21k nibs on those pens that also seem to somehow write all round smoother and nicer than the 14k nib. For the record, the only complaints I have ever heard from anybody about Sailor’s gold nibs is with their 14k ones. Scratchiness is the usual gripe. Very good review, as usual. You are a Sailor fan, aren’t you? And the price you bought your pen for is quite a steal. Tsuki-yo is one of my top 4 favorites in the Iroshizuku line. Edit: I detest posting and only do it when forced to do so. With the PG Slim, even with my sort of large hands, I write with this pen unposted.
I have certainly come around to Sailor pens. I didn't have the best introduction to them due to the initial nib issues, and I think they are very overpriced, but I do love their performance and feel.
@@thestationerydev Overpriced versus what? Faber-Castell or Caran d'Ache fountain pens, who will ask as much as twice the price for a PGS, and still give steel nibs? Pelikan? Montblanc (lol)?
I do have and enjoy this pen, the blue Spring, and the green Summer PGS pens. I purposely did not purchase the Winter because it is too similar in color to the Autumn with the added red flecks of color.
I have the same pen, my first gold nib...the first ink i put in was robert oster's cherry blossom and that ran dry and not a good writer...but i'm using more wet ink and i really like this nibs feedback, and it is no longer scratchy. I like this on very smooth paper. the issue is the ink getting stuck in the nib unit for me. I can't seem to get it out.
All of the Sailors I have pretty generous ink flow. You might try to get some micomesh and do a couple figure eights and that might sort your problem out. Just be careful to not overdo it.
@@thestationerydev the problem is with ink flow i think. either nib tines too tightly spaced, or the feed has defect. i tried "push the nib against the nail" trick, and it helped a bit.
