When he approached the camera and spread his arms, I dearly wished to embrace him. I do not even know if that gesture was a beckoning for an embrace or what, but I believe that I would have embraced him. I love Saint Gabriel dearly and I wish that I could have lived at this time.

Where are our living saints like Elder Gabriel? It’s amazing to me that this was filmed relatively recently, 1990s. I am 41 so I was very much alive when this was filmed. There is something very comforting in that. Even this very basic, raw footage of ordinary Georgian folks just standing around waiting for the patriarch, many unaware they are being filmed. Ilja Nosdri who is Russian Patriarch’s spiritual father, and Metropolitan Longin of the canonical UOC church, and I believe that I’ve heard of another UOC heirarch called a living saint. At first glance, St Gabriel looks to me like a fool, as I would perceive anybody else who appeared like this. But the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God, and St Gabriel is His Saint, so it stands to reason that there is only one fool here, and it isn't St Gabriel.
