Brian... may I ask what your render settings are? Your videos of P3 are very clean in comparison to others. Curious to know the bit rate, etc. Thanks in advance... I am on the edge of purchasing the p3 professional over another Phantom 2 with gopro 4 (which is my current set up).

I'm currently recording all my videos in 1080 60FPS (.mov format). Rendering in premiere at 1080 30FPS h.264. Hope that helps!

Excellent video, good editing, you are very skilled in my opinion. I don't know if you have access to that shooting location or similar ones, but I have a theory I'd like to discuss with you. Most uses of video cameras in movies and TV shows, the camera is stationary and the video captures the movement of activities going on in the frame. I wonder what a similar Phantom video would look like if you positioned your Phantom to set up an interesting framed shot and let the Phantom hover in place while only the motion in the video happened. Your river shot of the boat moving or the dock scene are great examples. I think the motion of the camera moving takes a lot away from what the image is portraying. Just the trees swaying, water moving or birds flying through the scene offer interesting elements, but I think when the Phantom is moving, I think viewers lose a lot of the artistic value of the beautiful scene. Some of the Phantom movements like panning or tilting the camera are robotic, not artistic. This same problem exists in most family uses of a video camcorder, they wonder why their Christmas videos are so amateurish. They zoom, pan, move to other locations and never edit out any of the boring stuff. My daughter does ours and all of her video cameras are mostly on tripods, capturing the activities. No zooming, panning or camera in motion. She integrates literally 200+ still photos she takes on expensive Canon cameras into our videos, adds great music and they are awesome. She does friends weddings the same way and people are blown away by her work. You have the location, equipment and editing skills, I'm sorry to say I don't, especially the classic location like you show in that video. While I think drone geeks are impressed by the Phantom camera in motion or flying around, I believe others would be more impressed by less flying and more stationary videos woven together into an interesting total video story. If you have the time to try that I'd love to see another video of the same area or another, using more of that "keep the Phantom stationary" idea to see how the video compares. I'm not saying all Phantom videos should eliminate flying, especially if your target are the drone owners. They love that. But if you want to show an impressive video to your family or friends, less flying would create a more sensational and artistic experience in my opinion. Sorry for the long post, you wouldn't hurt my feelings if you totally ignored it. Thanks again for the great video. I own the Phantom 2 Vision, 2 Vision Plus and P3P and P3A, but I can't get to places as interesting as the one you show, because I have daily caregiver duties at home everyday. I'm planning on loaning a backpack filled with the P3, batteries and everything to my talented daughter, after I give her a checkout and some Phantom lessons.

You have a great point. I had the same questions. But after flying my phantom 2 and editing the footage, I've found that the footage with the quadcopter in motion is substantially more appealing than when I am just hovering. It keeps the viewer entertained.

JerryRigEverything I suspect you are correct Jerry. After watching this again, i think some moves are very cinematic. The climb straight up at 0:58 is great, the backing up at 1:37 is very cool. Maybe I just don't like the Phantom yaw pans, as they are not usually very smooth. Camera tilt during flight also bugs me sometimes. As a Phantom long-time owner, the color quality in the P3 camera is just so much better, it really helps make videos like this one stand out. The music choice was great too, Excellent video.

StanBinKS This was my first day out kind of just getting used to the controls and shot framing. I definitely plan on heading back out to this area soon and taking a boat to get to more remote areas with wildlife. I also plan on doing some hold shots in these areas, also with top down views with a slow lift as well. If you like please subscribe to my channel and I'll have more soon! Thanks for watching, and the suggestions!

advice, don't use dissolve transition, ruins everything, a simple cut is simple, clean and perfect for this. sorry my english. Great video.

OurFathersAmerica I plan on heading out there eventually, I need a few more batteries though to make the trips worth it! Hopefully they'll be in stock soon.

Love the video but looks like you are having the same problem with the gimbal....horizons are not level
@brianjohnson2376

Harry Winnington I have yet to do an IMU calibration, but from what I've read that should fix the issue. Will try it before my next flight.

Great shots. Thanks for sharing. The biggest concern I have is why the horizon line isn't level. It's low on the left on all your shots. Is there a fix for this?
@brianjohnson2376
@brianjohnson2376 9 лет назад
Frederick Hagan It's supposedly an issue with the IMU calibration. I haven't had a chance to mess with it. It's a simple fix in post but yea would be nice to be fixed on the raw footage.

Is it worth it to get the pro over the advanced if 4k is not as widely used yet?
@brianjohnson2376
@brianjohnson2376 9 лет назад
Vince Parulan Tough call. I believe in future proofing so for me it was a given. The price difference isn't too much for me not to go with the better version. BUT, you have a good point and I usually prefer to shoot in 1080 60fps for now.

Thanks for the response. I'm really torn between the two but since my budget is a little bit tight then I should go for the advanced given that the only other difference is a faster charging?
@brianjohnson2376
@brianjohnson2376 9 лет назад
Vince Parulan 4k and faster charging on the Pro. Aside from that they're pretty much identical from what I can tell. I say go for the advanced, I don't think you'll regret it!

Horizon hangs slighly to the left - otherwise nice video and colors.
