Saint-Saëns: The Swan (Cello and Piano) - Brooklyn Duo 

I'm 81 yrs. old. One of the greatest pleasures of retiring in 2018 is having time to really enjoy music. Listening to you, many pieces over and over, is magic. You live to make each other shine!

One of my father's musics. He used to listen with closed eyes. Now, with tears, I miss him.

I'm a french cellist... Of course I played that one thousand times. Often everybody is overexpressing it, playing also it too fast, even the most well knowned players who are trying to let a mark on this so simple score... And the results are too often quite ugly... Here it's just what it should be, good tempo, nothing special, no demonstration, just a swan on a lake! bravo.

I’ve looked for years for a rendition of the Swan that is technically clear, where I can actually see the hand and finger movements, hear the nuances of the music and picture the music as it’s played... No one before now has done this - they’re either too fast, too active, or you can’t see their hands clearly. Thank you so much. This is beautifully played AND enormously helpful to cellists who need to see where they might be making a mistake - or who just want to learn the piece and find it useful to see it played :) Wonderful performance.

I'm learning this piece for the first time as an intermediate cellist, because my teacher wants to challenge (torture) me. I really appreciate the way you film your videos, with a nice straight-on view of Patrick's cello and his hands. His technique is inspiring, and it's interesting to observe his choices in bowing and fingering. So much to learn from. It's also a really beautiful rendition of the piece, just like always.

A very difficult piece to keep time with because of the time signature. In a way it makes no sense until you come to appreciate the piece. Much harder than it seems. Great job.

Wow! Magnificent, bravo! "The Swan" is one of my all time favorites, especially as a piano & cello duo. It is amazing that a husband and wife duo of musicians can rise to this level of talent and perfection to play this piece so majestically! Ever since Ukrainian ice skater Oksana Serhiyivna Baiul-Farina won the Olympics to this piece in 1994 I have been smitten by the memory of her performance and choreography on the ice accompanied by this exact rendition of "The Swan" on that memorable day! The way Oksana perfectly mimicked a real Swan in her skating routine will never be forgotten by me. And now Brooklyn Duo's performance just adds to the pleasure of that memory. Thank you both for a fantastic experience. May God bless you both!

this morning it is a totally overcast, very cool fall morning here in northern virginia. i stumbled across your performance of this piece, and found it to be the PERFECT accompaniment. as a result i'm gonna take the day off, go to one of the local wineries, and replay this over and over in my mind while taking in the gorgeous views. very nicely done! i enjoyed it very much! : )

Just did this one on the flute with a harp and violinist accompanying me! I love this song so much. The cello has always been one of my favorite instruments and this song just reiterated that statment. The emotion erupted. Absolutely perfect. ❤❤

How incredibly moving. I can't imagine the feeling you two must have had performing this haunting piece together. To play something so moving...being in such harmony with one another must take you to another level of intimacy. To wind your feelings and emotions around one another as you sculpt these beautiful sounds, seemingly out of nothing. What a lovely thing to be able to experience. You are so very fortunate. Sadly It is something that the majority of people will never know. But it is better to have observed such, than never to have been able to experience it at all. Thank you.

Please excuse my ignorance but we need your help with the Swan. My son (on piano) and I (on cello) have been playing this with you two as our guides. For me (cello) the piece starts for me on a high G. In the sheet music we downloaded (Music notes) the cello part starts on a C. What am I missing?

I was classically trained in ballet, and I thought every ounce of this music had been wrung out of it for me. Nope. Guess not. It was beautiful and stunning. Like I was hearing it again - for the first time... with tears in my eyes.

As beautiful as this piece (and the entire Carnival of the Animals) is, Saint Saens actually insisted that it not be publicly performed until after his death, for worry that it might diminish his credentials as a 'serious composer' in the establishment's eye. A shame in that many modern connisseurs would argue that it wouldve assured his reputation had they been performed while he was still alive

Very emotion-invoking piece; on the Cello you really bring out the warmth and tenacity required to make this piece sound like I think it should. Awesome!

Not very good I would suggest making the shifts smoother and only changing when the dynamics tell you to and change the speed of vibrato on notes like slow to fast

U playing in 4th position looks alot higher than my 4th position but u probably have a full size were as mine is 3/4.

Just looked at several of your videos and thought "The Swan" would be a good fit for your suburb talent. Two minutes later I found this video. Stunning playing by both of you.

I just noticed the piano part. Poor Marnie, she must have been bored out of her mind. only slightly more interesting than Pachelbel's Canon cello part (or alto flute, when I played it in my ensemble.)

So delicate and beautiful. The swan in me died watching this.
