The national forest of Sainte Baume in Plan d'Aups in the Var.
Forest full of spirituality.
She is nestled under the immense wing of the cliff.
It has kept its wild appearance for millennia.
Several paths lead to the cave: the path of the "roys" which starts from the basilica of Saint Maximin and the one called "du Canapé".
Sofa originally means chaos. This chaotic path is formerly the bed of a dry stream. In patois chaos is called "sofa", hence the name of the "Canapé" path.
The path of the "roys" was opened in 1295 when the Dominican fathers settled in Sainte Baume.
This path was dotted with 7 oratories built in 1516 on the initiative of Monsignor Ferrier, Archbishop of Arles, only 3 are visible in the town of Plan d'Aups Sainte Baume today and are classified as historical monuments as of July 22 1913.
The cave is a natural cave dug by erosion. It is called "holy" because, according to the tradition of Provence, Saint Mary Magdalene lived there the last 30 years of her life, withdrawn from the world.
