Sainte-Chapelle is a royal chapel within the medieval Palais de la Cité, the residence of the Kings of France until the 14th century.

It was commissioned by King Louis IX of France around 1238 and was consecrated on 26th of April 1248.

It used to house a collection of relics, among which a crown of thorns believed to be the one Jesus Christ worn before His crucifixion. The collection was later moved to Notre-Dame Cathedral where it stayed until the 2019 fire that almost destroyed the cathedral. It is now preserved at the Louvre Museum.
