The end scene was crazy. They just yeeted you off and roll The credits. One big middle finger from volition. But we find out our fate in 2 so Not all was bad.
I give it a lot of credit from the voice cast, funny as hell radio stations, and story despite being short by comparison to 2 it was just long enough to get you interested in the sequel
I absolutely agree. The first Saints Row has a very special place in my heart. And no the first game soundtrack surpasses the second especially in the Hip Hop genre.
Fun fact: in saints row 2 you can meet back up with Luz and help her run drugs. During one of the runs she might mention that Maero from the second game was friends with Victor and that they bonded over their love of tattoos.
Ben King was one of the best fictional gangster I’ve seen in a video game. Probably even better than some of the ones in San Andreas imo. He ran his gang like a true mobster and having corrupt cops on his payroll. And avoid getting in the drug game
Completing every level in every location of side activities has very useful rewards. Infinite ammo, better run speed, infinite stamina, and that alone is enough to encourage you to grind them so by the time you get to the main missions you’re already maxed out on respect
I remember going to Game stop back in 2009 because I had beaten the GTA IV series, I was looking for more open world action games, and the sales rep said try Saints Row, so I bought 1 and 2, I loved the story of Saints Row and the characters.
I had a similar experience. Back in 2010 I never played any GTA game. Saints row 2 being my first open world crime game. I remember buying for 5$ at a flea market and still today one the best games I've played.
That "What goes up..." mission was so atrociously hard, it gave me flashback watching you play it. The lack of checkpoint was such a pain point of this game.
Same here. That mission tore my 7 year old mind apart. The rockets were so awkwardly placed making it hard to shoot them, especially with Dex's atrocious driving.
julius betraying the protagonist was never the intended outcome: there was a miscommunication at the studio, and the animations department failed to construct the intended scene of having a bloodied julius running down an alley, and instead just gave him a stock animation of him looking at his watch. when, close to shipping, the story team saw this new watch ending, they were like "fck... i guess julius did it then!" considering all this, they really ran with that plot-point well in the sequel, fleshed it out and gave us a great mission and new status quo.
This is hands down the best Saints Row ever made. Playing this on the 360 along with Splinter cell double agent truly felt next gen at the time. I still play this game at least once a year to get that nostalgia. Thank you for making a video on it I’m glad it’s getting the well deserved attention.
This has been and always will be my favourite Saints Row game. It felt like a game being made from the best bits of San Andrea's but gameplay wise it was way better
One of the more interesting parts of this game was the writers heavily expected people to use the radio to get information. News bulletins would have Chief Monroe or Alderman Hughes talking about events or in ads about the city. The idea being that if you were listening to the radio in game you would get a feeling for things like for instance that Sharp, the leader of the Rollerz was well connected with Hughes meaning that Hughes was connected directly with two of the three games. Of course, what they didn't realize was that no one listens to in game radio ads. They change the channel just like in real life, so lots of this was missed by players. This is why in 2 they made sure Ultor was so well fleshed out in cut scenes as behind things.
I got SR 1 in 2010 "by an accident" instead of SR2. Later I got the SR2 and I felt no need to come back. Recently I tried it again using Xenia and the day I finished it, I started SR2. Again, I feel no need to come back to the SR 1 but I must say, it has some kind of a specific magic, which wasn't replicated again. In SR 1, you're just a gangster - the game is quite hard, grounded and recruiting gangsters is really helpful. In SR2, if you know what activities to finish first, you quickly become a Forrest Gump with unlimited ammo in strong weapons and you're just a one man army. The original SR 1 magic is gone. ...and I say there's no sequel after SR2.
Their actually is a similar formula you can use in sr1 to make the game easier in the beginning. I always start hitman & chop shop first and treat these activities kinda like background checks since actually having them in the forefront of your mind is a headache. That way if a target pops out or if their is a car I see I do that real quick then continue on with whatever I was doing. The best way to make easy money early on in the game is to do all the insurance frauds with a ambulance and to just drive as hard as you can inside the scoring area and to keep repeating this. Call 911 whenever the ambulance is bout to explode. Rinse and repeat. Easy early on thousands as well as nice rewards for completing. The hitman is necessary because it offers you 3 one hit kill weapons and practically limitless ammo in your weapons cache at your crib so you’ll never need to spend bread on weapons again.
@@GetBackRy3x Cool! I also first finished the Insurance fraud because of the rewards and the entertainment aspect but didn't know the rest. After checking the wikia, I found not many interesting rewards to try to reach. Didn't even try the Hitman.
YEEEEEEEESSSSS I've been wanting you to talk about Saints Row series since you started talking about the GTA games and now that you talked about Saints Row and also seeing when it comes to youtube shorts you do nothing but post about Yakuza the fact that you have yet to talk about yahuza like this is baffling hurry up and get on that please, but obviously take your time do what you want man we're looking forward to anything you make
Thank you for covering one of my favorite games not only that i respect you’re ending so much because you didn’t fallow the gta fan route and called it a clone you gave honest criticism that even the top journalist couldn’t say back when it released
Back when this game came out my dad would let me play this, couldn’t believe the graphics. He let me pull out money from the sharks but never told me they’d want their money back…
Good video. Regarding the grind for respect between missions, I had a different experience. I completed every Hitman Activity and about 5 Activity levels 1-8 to unlock special versions of weapon, ammo stored at your crib, and pretty much enough respect points to complete every stronghold and mission. I noticed the perks of completing most of the activities allowed me to blast through a ton of the missions easily. Especially with the Pimp gun.
God I remember 2011, getting the double pack and beating 2 before the summer ended, then playing 1 and still remembering my saves, while 3 was coming out. Special times
To call the reboot cast 'Saints' is an insult to the rest of the series. A more fitting name would be 'Taints'. The reboot isn't 'Saints Row', it's 'Taints Woke'.
I just saw your video pop up in my feed and I know it's gonna be a treat. Lately you've been cranking out better, longer, more quality videos, and we appreciate them, thank you. Lowkey they've been my go-to videos in the past few months. I like that you are brutally honest (I especially liked your nudity/sex thought-process in your God of War video, it was a fresh and true take), you talk gameplay, story elements, visuals, have comparisons. At times you are serious, but lots of jokes come through. Great stuff, keep them coming!
so glad you tried it out. the OG SR is so good it's surreal. its interesting how SR went down the zany route, whereas GTA went down the hyper-realistic route. i seem to recall that SR1 used to be on GOG, but now it isnt? i might be completely wrong on this tho. great recounting as always!
Wu-Tang just living our lives! So, to keep it short, here are my thoughts on Saints Row 1. It’s like GTA San Andreas meets GTA 4 and that’s a good thing. Although I didn’t like doing most of the side quests to do the main story missions, I thought it was good, despite some frustrations as a new Saints Row fan myself. I got Saints Row 3 1st on Steam last year as part of a PayDay 2 promotion. I thing I got either Saints Row 2 or 1 free with Xbox Games With Gold and I got the other when it was on offer. The 1st ending before the epilogue was nice, but the epilogue itself was truly something to watch, like this was a massive conspiracy theory on who blew up the yacht and why did this exactly happen. The music is great, Khryme radio has a good lot of bangers. Starts Row 2 literally improves everything that Saints Row 1 did, even making the side quest grinding for respect slightly better, which is a huge improvement in more ways than one. So yeah, Saints Row 1 and 2 are truly underrated gems, despite some nit-picky quirks here and there. Saints Row 3, I thought it was ok, but I wanna hear what other peeps wanna say bout it. Should I chance Saints Row 4? I heard a lot of bad reviews with Gat Out Of Hell, I won’t chance it, don’t worry. Reboot? In 2022? What do you mean there was a reboot in 2022? I think you’re mixing up with a different game or remake/reboot that came out that year, coz what I saw was this Fortnite clone trying to have this weird story-mode with college students that wanna be all gangsta and basically fails miserably.
Saints Row 2 remains the most iconic crime sandbox game, it had the perfect balance of goofy and realism in my eyes. But I always regretted that the demolition derby only existed in the first game, the rewards you got were some of my favorite cars in the whole series.
Keith David also played as the sidekick with Roddy Piper in the movie "They Live" I highly recommend you watch it. Being born in the 80's this was my introduction to him as an actor.
They added activities as missions in SRTT and everybody hated it. Personally, I don't like grinding for respect either. But the problem is that if you take it away then there's no point in having the activities. I'm not sure what a better system would be though.
You can always vote witchur wallet and campaign for another studio like io interactive or hazelight studios to own de ip so that we can get good releases on pc
Troy didn’t try to get rid of you in the Vice Kings mission. In SR2 he made sure Gat was safe in prison and turned a blind eye to The Saints activities.
That’s why I would rather play the original Saints Row game back in 2006, and Saints Row 2. Also Keith David have also voiced The Arbiter from Halo, and I am really glad that he have been voicing the iconic character like Julius Little, while Daniel Dae Kim have been voicing the fan favorite, Johnny Gat.
This is my favorite game in the series I love the whole control the map gang war thing really works for me being a pc strategy gamer and also that soundtrack De La Soul, Bear Vs. Shark, The Fall of Troy, Husker Dü, Eek-A-Mouse, Biz Markie on tops of a good selection of classical music, you cannot beat the mix of tunes they picked
I remember the first time I played saints row I hated having to do side missions to unlock story missions but after a while it started to grow on me and I actually enjoyed it
This and the 2nd game are arguably some of my favorite games and definitely fit top 10. Something just fits for me with these games and I feel the first isn’t talked about enough with it being a 360 only title. Love this video
I honestly loved Saints row and always thought it was a way more polished game than gta with better shooting and driving mechanics and amazing customization
SR4 feels like a DLC because originaly it was a DLC to SR3 called Enter the Dominatrix. I finished it multiple times so I cant understand how could you drop it half way trough. After playing SR1 and 2 you should go back to it. There are few fun callbacks to those games.
im a little surprised you didnt bring up the voice actor for the new Mayer, Clancy fucking Brown. if everyone else is good-excellent quality wise, Clancys downright iconic
Fuzzy if you ever decide to play this game again make sure you finish every single hitman level and tag spray before you play missions. Youll have enough respect to finish the game, Platinum shotgun, platinum t3k and gold deagle (unlimited ammo supply at cribs) and with all the tags sprayed youll have unlimited sprint. Makes the game much better. Plus if you finish Insurance Fraud youll get a health boost.
Also I like to say that the playa in saints row 1 is default male citizen from saints row. The street gangster version of Gary cooper. Strong and silent type. Saints row 2 playa is a different breed. A power hungry psycho gangster who wants revenge against the city of Stilwater and also was in a coma and sees a different version of Stilwater that is very corporatized. Even the old saints row has turned into an Ultor gentrified district with the Ultor building being an eyesore of the city itself. That playa is either a male female or whatever you want it to identify, but still. The character is very psycho indeed. Also has a music taste for 80s music because the psycho playa turned boss was operational from the 1980s.
How coincidental, I just finished Saint's Row last week and currently playing through 2. Crazy that I used to put off this series as an average GTA rip-off. After playing it, I realize it has its own charm - especially the characters lol Edit: with the issue of Xenia, did you put in protect_zero = false in the xenia config? I finished it on the latest Xenia Canary build and had no issues besides a few audio delays here and there.
@@Anonymous-Wolf Besides the stuff that I said, you could try experimenting with Vulkan. Sorry, I don't have the config anymore since I had to revert to default settings for a different game to run on xenia. There are patches available on Github and the specific github compatibility page for the game helped a lot. Happy gaming, bud!
I've got a feeling after the Saint's Row Reboot, Violation might Remaster Saints Row and Saints Row 2 in hopes to remake the losses they had on the reboot. I'm gonna say this and I think everyone could agree that if they do remaster one and two, it'll be best if it's a *_faithful remaster_* and with little corner's cut
The problem with that theory is that Volition never touches its old games and only makes new games. They've said so themselves. Every port and remaster has been done by other companies.
This is what we wantede more than the reboot. Sadly with Volition now shut down we can only hope another big studio acquires the license and does just that. I'm not optimistic though, so it's emulation on PC for me.
im so glad that you are covering one of my favorite game series its awesome i hope you have a great time playing the games and i hope you do all of the saints row games even thought some of them don't hit with story but i would still love too hear what you got too say about the games have fun playing them💜💜💜
I dont consider Saints Row a GTA clone. I consider it more of a competitor to GTA. Saints Row was only ruined because they gave into both GTA and Saints Row fanboys demands to distance itself from GTA. Lets not forget Skid Row Repoop is a dumpster fire and was a final nail of Volition's coffin
57:30 The reason the reboot failed is because it doesn’t have incredible moments like getting hilariously knocked out of your car during a drive-by and having the enemy escape, only to have your leader walk up to you and go “nigga, you should buckle your seatbelt” 😂😭😭
I am enjoying this I hope you cover the first 4 games and “Gat out of Hell”also i hope you’ll do the 2 “Godfather” games since it seems you really like Crime Sandbox games
1 year late to this but in relation to the side activities, while you dont have to do all of them some of the activities are worthhile to do for the rewards. For example completing all stages of a hitman activity gives you one of the four best weapons in the game with the fourth weapon given when you complete all three activities. Completing all levels of insurance fraud gives you damage reduction to bullets, vehicles, and explosions. Spraying all tags gives you unlimited sprint. I am currently working on 100% Saints Row 1 currently about 40% in the game (39% to be exact) and I have completed 12 activities and 13 missions if I remember correctly. I also have 56 levels of respect on the bar which is about twenty or so more levels than there are missions on the game. So they give you more than enough activities for respect than you need.
It always baffles me almost every youtuber or twitch streamer I've seen just refuses to finish the activities, no matter which game in the series it is. Like you guys know you need the respect and complaing about grinding it after every mission, why not just spend the extra like 20, 30 minutes to finish out at least the activity you are doing.
David Carradine, Keith David, Michael Clarke Duncan, Daniel Dae Kim, and many more voices make the story of the OG Saint's Row my favorite yes Saint's Row 2 was the funner game with the darker story but I just really found the game to be the best GTA knockoff Saint's Row 2 was an attempt to be a GTA killer
I think the reason noone talks about SR1 is that SR2 is SR1 but they just improved on all the features and made everything better. This doesn't mean SR1 is bad but it came before the peak of the series imo
The respect aspect of the game nearly made me quit.. it’s so dumb having to do the side missions to unlock main missions. For anyone who’s going to play this game for the first time and you don’t care about achievements just use the money cheat code and infinite ammo cheat code. Then just buy the RPG and do all the Mayhem side missions.. you’ll get enough respect for most of the game, the other easy side missions you can do for respect is the escort missions. Taking hostages is also easy but it doesn’t give you enough respect imo..
Letting lin die for the sake of vengeance is why i always went after killbane in SR3 all in all the boss is a psychopath with only vengeance on his mind
