In this video you can see the ignition system with various timing diagrams from an original SAITO-4 stroke 3-cylinder radial gasoline engine and an original SAITO ignition coil. The drive flange has not been modified.
All measurements refer to my test engine and are created with the best of my knowledge.

Dear Mr. Koch, this is an excellent presentation, thank you very much for sharing (and in such a high quality way). Very scientific negotiation of the subject. I cannot follow in every aspect I'm afraid, I lack the necessary backround, but my take is that everything is set right by the manufacturer? I mean, there is a lot of debate about faulse timing of the drive flange. Also, of less than optimal fuel supply of the cylinders because of flaws in the intake manifold design. Your personal experience is though that the engine works flawlessly out of the box, do I got that right? If this is the case, it's very reassuring. I have a new in box FG33R3 and I am a bit frustrated by all those negative comments going around...Fotios

Hello Mr. Fotios Thank you for your comment and attention. My experiences and reports relate to the FG60R3 model. I put a new SAITO motor into operation according to the manual and did not make any modifications. The timing of the drive flange and the fuel supply to the cylinders work perfectly. I always start the engine with an electric starter and it starts perfectly. Everything is specified correctly by the manufacturer. Start up your engine according to the SAITO manual and check the valve clearance regularly.
