One of the main concerns I have regarding Sako rifles are the calibers that Sako does not offer to the general public. For example, Sako does not offer the 7mm PRC (SAAMI) caliber, which is a very modern caliber that allows the use of more advanced high BC (Ballistic Coefficient) projectiles, which are heavier and longer projectiles. The 7mm RM (Remington Magnum) offered by Sako is an excellent caliber, but it is not possible to use such projectiles in this rifle if at least the throat dimensions are not extended. Here comes another problem, which is the twist rate of the Sako barrel, as they do not proper stabilize these projectiles. The twist rate offered by Sako for the 7mm RM is 1:9.5", completely outdated. Other manufacturers such as Browning and Bergara, in addition to offering the 7mm PRC as well the 7mm RM, do so with a barrel with a twist rate of 1:8". Tikka Rifles, Sako's sister company, offers the 7mm RM caliber with a 1:9" twist rate, already a much better twist rate than that found on Sako rifles. Even though I'm a big fan of the Sako and Tikka rifles, I recently became very frustrated after looking at the specs of the Sako 90 Quest regarding the twist rate of the 7mm RM barrel. I would like to buy that rifle but also I definitely will not pay a price considered high for a rifle that does not meet the stability requirements of the more modern projectiles, such as found in the 195-grain Berger 7mm projectiles. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not diminishing Sako rifles. Per the contrary. They are actually, in my opinion, the best rifles in the world in terms of quality, function and operation, but they are becoming outdated when it comes to the technological advancements made by the bullet industry. Any words from the manager of the respective Sako sector? 😃
Jag fick just sikta in och testa min egen Sako 90 Quest.
