This was the perfect fan translation to work on. Everything went so smoothly and we learned a whole bunch If anyone wants to do the programming for a translation to this game’s sequel let us know

I literally played for the first time and beat this game today. Got the “bad ending” and had a hunch there was a lot of content and endings I missed. I did a search on RU-vid and found this video. Amazing work you did in translating. Thanks for being apart of a team that lets people like me be able to play this game.

Great video! I have yet to play GB myself but it was really fun to watch an overview of the game and it's history. Plus all the information about the Pocket Sakura and the canceled Dreamcast adapter was super interesting. Really looking forward to your video on SW3 since it's my favorite entry in the whole series, hands down.

Although Sakura Wars GB deserves to be huge as the main line games!! And giving the player character a true role as well.

The term Imperial Combat Revue only works for New Sakura Wars really because in the first 5 games of the series the group are meant to be a secret operation under the guise of theatre.

Thank you for your great work. Your video got me into series and i became a fan, so much that i'm now remastering cuscenes for the games, will be waiting for Part 5. Two questions: In the future will you cover side projects like anime adaptaions or manga? and what your opinion on Valkyria Chorincles series? (if of course you know about it)
@MattoBii
@MattoBii 2 года назад
Thanks for the kinds words! I made these videos in the hopes of getting the series some more fans, so I'm very glad to hear that. For now, the plan is to mainly cover the games, since those are by and large the hardest for non-Japanese speakers to access (the PS4 game notwithstanding). That said, I do intend to have a short video about the movie, since it provides some vital backstory for SW5 Episode 0 and helps establish Ratchet's character more for SW5 itself. Once I'm finished covering the main games, though, I might go back and talk about the anime, OVAs, etc., we'll see! As for Valkyria Chronicles, I played it a bit back when the first one came out on PS3. One of the items on the to-do list is to go back and beat it before I get started on the SW3 video, since there's a lot of overlap there, both in terms of mechanics and development staff.

@@MattoBii Thank you for answering, and keep up the good work. I'm sorry but i need to know, how do you really translate "Teikoku Kagekidan"? i've made a video and remastered all Sakura Wars opening sequences and now i'm working on subtitles for the video, i've got at least four variants of translation and right now i'm using "Imperial Combat Revue" but is it really accurate?
@MattoBii
@MattoBii 2 года назад
Short answer: There is no "right" translation because it's a kanji-based pun, so I'd just keep it as "Imperial Combat Revue" if I were you, since that's what the games and merch (such as the Bandai model kits) use nowadays. Long answer: "Teikoku Kagekidan" is written as 帝国歌劇団 when referring to the theater group and 帝国華撃団 when referring to the combat unit. 歌劇団 has a number of valid translations, such as "Musical Theater Group," "Troupe" or "Revue" (the latter translation is used by the Takarazuka Revue, which the in-game kagekidan is heavily based on). However, 華撃団, by contrast, isn't a real word. It roughly translates to "brilliant/gorgeous assault group". However, as you noted, this has been translated in tons of different ways in the past, and rarely with any consistency between mediums. The first kanji is also an alternate kanji for "flower", which is why you sometimes see it translated as "Floral assault group". For what it's worth, I personally prefer "Revue" and "Combat Revue" like what the official game localizations eventually settled on. It's imperfect, and loses the pun, but it still maintains the reference to the Takarazuka Revue, to which the series owes a lot of its existence.

@@MattoBii Thanks, then i'll stick to the revue in english and use troupe in russian. Man they sure love thier puns, i can only imagine how much of them gets lost in transaltion, still, thank for your time.

It is possible that reimplementing these features in the JP Rom of Sakura Wars GB is also possible? as the English Translation its an amazing work, but would be great to give back to the Japanese Audience the opportunity to experience the cut content themselves as well as a thank you to them in part
@MattoBii
@MattoBii Год назад
It's something I've thought about, but our programmer's still busy with other obligations. I'm also not very familiar with any JP ROM hacking scenes, so I'm not sure what would be the best way to distribute it if we went through with that. Definitely something I want to look into some more, though!

Also, any plans to cover some of the offline modes from Sakura Wars Online or the mobile game? I'm not sure if the mobile game is even accessible anymore but I just got a Dreamcast bundled with the Imperial City Sakura Wars Online disc and it seems you can at least play the minigames offered. I don't understand Japanese though so not sure if it's actually interesting enough for a video
@MattoBii
@MattoBii 2 года назад
I have been considering covering Online, but I'm thinking that might be something I loop back around to later on when I'm done with the other games, alongside the fan discs. It's something I'll need to look into before I put out my video on 3, at any rate. As for the mobile game, Sakura Kakumei/Sakura Revolution, I will be covering that for sure, it's too fascinating not to. I had the foresight to record some gameplay back when the service was still up, and I still have the APK with the cutscene viewer, so I can record all the cutscenes when the time comes, so it's just a matter of keeping the phone it's on safe until then. On top of that, a group of fans just recently completed a comprehensive archive of the game's story and assets, so that should cover anything I couldn't otherwise still access myself: archive.org/details/@sakura_kakumei_archive_team

@@MattoBii Understandable and sounds great, certainly looking forward to the series continuing in any fashion. I'll check out that Archive link
