I loved Sal Mineo in "Rebel Without A Cause." He was excellent, and so was Natalie Wood and James Dean! It was so sad that they all died tragiclly and young. Rest in Peace!!!
If there was ever a perfect creature that God put on this Earth, it was Sal Mineo. I mean, just look at him! Such a good person too. No matter what movie he's in, Sal always outshines the rest of the cast. I will worship that man forever. Why did somebody have to kill him? WHY????!!!
I saw Sal Mineo in 1957-8, when he was making a personal appearance for his then current movie "Dino" at the RKO Keith's theater, Queens, NY, when I was age 11! He also sang the title song & they gave out free copies to the first 300 persons in attendance (not me)! When he left out the back & I left quickly through the front, I encountered him getting into a black Cadillac limousine, but at age 11, was too shy to speak to him! R.I.P. Sal!
Fantastic! Thanks for this video clip. It made my day. I liked Sal Mineo when first I saw him in a movie. Beautiful young man... he had such a lively acting and great presence.
Sal was nominated for an oscar twice. The first was for REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE. Ihe second was for EXODUS. In the early sixties he was briefly engaged to actress Jill Hayworth. He was a very talented actor.
@@jadezee6316 He was bisexual; he stated this himself in an interview a few years before his untimely death. Just because he settled down with a same-sex partner doesn't' change his bisexuality.
God, --he was absolutely delectable! What a gorgeous boy--just 100% adorable... Is it possible to be in love with someone who is sadly deceased.? :-( so , so sad that he was murdered in 1976.
He was really a superb actor who died far too young. I remember when he was murdered in 1976. His lifestyle was of no consequence to him or our appreciation of him as an actor. He was only 37,and no one should die that young, let alone in the manner that he did.
I love Mineo's work on "The Gene Krupa Story" in 1959. Sal did play the Drums! You know, I just have this feeling of uncertainty about what exactly happened in that apartment parking structure. It just doesn't ring true. The suspect fleeing the scene was described as an anglo with long blond hair but a black man was charged with the crime after he boasted of being the murderer whilst he was in jail! As far as I know, no one in jail admits to any other crimes they've committed! All I can say for certain is what horror Sal Mineo must have experienced during his last moments on this planet! He didn't deserve to die in such a violent and painful way. It really makes me furious! Sal Mineo was such a self effacing beautiful cat! R.I.P. SALVATORE "SAL" MINEO JR.
Being gay or bisexual isn’t a life style choice. He didn’t choose to be that way anymore than straight people choose to be straight. He was born that way
Your observation about Sal resembling Ralph Macchio is spot on. Also, interesting to see comedian Ernie Kovacs on the panel. Like James Dean, Kovacs died in a car crash.
me323 When they asked was he a leading man, he turned to John and whispered, "I'm only 18." lol When they asked was he born outside the country, he again turned to John and whispered, "Ya, the Bronx." lol John tells the story of both of these towards the end of the episode. Sorry, didn't mean to be rude in my "watch the video....." response. :(
I read some people don't know who Sal Mineo is. He was probably most famous for his role opposite James Dean in "Rebel Without a Cause". He died very young, murdered, so a lot of younger people today don't know him.
He makes me proud to be a native New Yorker who spent my early childhood (first 4 years) of my life living in Harding Park in the Bronx. Sal Mineo was not appreciated at all in Hollywood after he grew up and was blacklisted for being openly gay at a time when that was still verboten in Hollywood. He should have won the Oscar for REBEL in 1956. Read a great biography of him that came out last year they are turning into a movie soon. If Ralph macchio were younger, he would have been a good choice.
As you can see by my icon I restore these old sets from the 50's & am amazed a LOT of them actually STILL WORK BEFORE I restore them! Let's see a foriegn-made flat-screen P.O.S. last 60 years! Ur LUCKY to get 6 years out of modern junk!
OH i forgot about that.....he plays the drums.....he was in the "Gene Krupa story". For those of you that don't know much about big bands....Gene Krupa was a famous drummer back in the day.
GSN rebroadcast this 1957 episode on 11 Nov 2008. It featured an amusing, educational game with a pretty female bullfighter and a short game with an expectant parents class teacher. Sal Mineo in his early luscious period. Here he is not quite as young as mystery guest Brandon deWilde (who appeared in 1954 age 11), but he is younger than mystery guest Rick Nelson (August 1959 age 19).
i read that at the time of his death, sal was planning to do a film about sirhan sirhan. the film was going to suggest that rfk's assassination was a conspiracy involving the cia. when sal was killed, so were plans for the film.
I'm reading the Biography now it's great! His parents kind of screwed up his career and spent all of his money. Was trying to make a comeback when he was senselessly killed by a psycho career criminal
Sal starred in quite a few films - THE GENE KRUPA STORY, DINO, THE YOUNG DON'T CRY, TONKA... SO he was a leading man! And he was not exclusively gay - he had affairs with both sexes ..i.e. he was a longtime boyfriend to Jill Hayworth , his costar in EXODUS
@blackhorse099 Calling a person who is homosexual a "waste" is an ignorant thing to say. I'm not going to sit here and argue with you through comments.
I could watch ENTERTAINMENT like THIS all day compared to the DISGUSTING morally-exemt garbage on TV nowadays! U can tell this was filmed off an ol' round screen B&W TV as the horizontal linearity's off (notice the gameshow hosts' squished together shoulder on the right edge of the picture) I've even seen old "kinescope films" like this of "Beat The Clock" where a fridge or something kicks on & the pic shrinks & rolls a bit momentarily :) The GOOD-ol days of televisons MADE IN THE USA TO LAST!!
Out of curiosity I scrolled down through all the comments about this clip. I have truly never seen such stupidity in some remarks about Sal's sexuality, his murder, and personal life in Hollywood. Some people who commented in this section need to stop listening to rumors, Google some facts, and read several bios about Sal (which for the most part are reasonably accurate). People have their opinions, but use some reason and some basic intelligence before texting them.
