Bill said that the culture problem has to exist somewhere in ownership, personnel and/or coaching. He says he doesn't know who, but I bet he knows where specifically the problem is - some goofball who makes shit decisions over and over again.
The one constant is the owner. There was a leak last year that Woody calls the HC daily to make suggestions based on what he read on the internet. You can’t attract a strong leader coaching when the owner is meddling and undermining behind the scenes.
This conversation transcends football. Great insights on self reflection, taking care of others, and navigating internal turmoil when things don't go as planned. Love this podcast!
Dear Matt, As a lions fan I have to say hearing you talk about your time in Detroit gives me more respect for you. I know it didn’t work but thanks for trying to fix my organization. Good luck and I love this podcast keep up the good work. 🦁💪💪💪
Same here. I was unhappy with the result, but I have a healthier perspective and respect for what all coaches and their families go through. I’m glad they are compensated to what they go through.
Agree. No one takes a HC job planning for things to go bad. Most of the time it's that losing during the transition until the HC can get his players playing to his vision becomes untenable for ownership and many times is influenced by media playing expert.
Still cant respect Patricia as a HC and honestly from what we saw in Detroit i find it hard to believe he knows more than my sons rec center football HC.. hes the driver clown in the clown car
Not enough people are watching this type of real analysis of the ups and downs of coaching in the NFL. Just real, honest, and genuine conversation - but most importantly knowledge, experience, sympathy, and credibility about the subject matter. Not like the bullshit emotional ratings driven media. These are three guys that competed and hated the Jets for many years, yet all they have to say is how sympathetic they are to the situation that Saleh found himself in. This is what every sports show should be like - real, intelligent, and human. Less media drivel from morons who have no idea what they are talking about and more of this, please.
Lombo loves throwing shots and bill somehow finds a way to agree without doing the same its great. I think lombo voices what bill is actually thinking without putting him in a position to say stuff he doesn't want to
I can't believe it's 2024 and Bill just rewinds 50 years worth of football games and pulled a game out of his mental library from 1974, ....with details. And I don't even remember what happened yesterday.😂 I just love this show. Thank you gentlemen. Much appreciated.
People talking about Bill going to the Jets don't know how lowly he thinks of the organization. I don't think Bill is going back at all. He's already known as the greatest coach of all time, and he's clearly enjoying his life now and has a 25 year old girlfriend.
From central Mass I used to tune in to Cleveland sports radio when Bill was there. I would get so pissed listening to those people call in.and the way they treated him. I still think Cleveland football is cursed because of the way Bill was treated there.
No, they are screwed because they have passed on multiple franchise QBs in the first round. The original Browns Organization became the Baltimore Ravens.
Certain group of New Yorkers were angry at Saleh for wearing the the flag of Lebanon during games. Wish it had made him realize he needed to win to stay.
Also, awesome story about the two-tight end formation in Detroit by Bill!!! Charlie Sanders knew how to ball, especially with his basketball background.
Love contrast of Lombardi and Bill. Lombardi is as direct and blunt as you are going to get. Bill is so smart, but diplomatic. Bill will subtly and succinctly tell you how good or bad he thinks something is without giving anyone a sound bite for people to rage against.
Whatever the feelings any of these guys have about the Jets, they just did Jet fans a big favor. They spoke about the fact that there is long time rot that needs addressing and thank you Mr Lombardi for spelling it out plain, it's the ownership.
Bill is truly a Patriot. He will always enjoy watching the Jets suffer, the Bills choke or fall short, and the Dolphins put more stock in their perfect season (50 years ago) than the 85 Bears.
100%. Especially because everyone thinks all you need is a franchise QB and you'll win football games... Nope. You can pay WRs $30mil, doesn't matter. Coaching does matter!!!! Players get the job done but if you think an All-Star team will get you 13 wins even with a bad HC, you ain't been watching all these teams underperform year after year.
@@mk-ultramags1107underachieving…exactly why John harbs gotta. Twice in last few yrs BAL owner has said he was close to firing him. Stop waiting and wasting time. There was some great coaches out there.
I swear no one in the NFL actually appreciates the simple fact that someone has to lose. You can have two teams with great culture and everything else, but only one is moving on. A toe could be the difference between being seen as a great team or a bad one. Everything that would have otherwise been seen as great is now a problem. Because of a toe.
Not a huge fan of Saleh but 2-3, play for 1st place this week... Terrible timing. Either before or after the season. Not 1 quarter thru And its 30min of basically saying, "Its Woody!" without actually saying the words
I knew Rodgers going to the Jets was going to end up bad. Saleh may not have won games because Zack Wilson was there but at least they had a descent culture but no one can be held accountable cuz Rodgers pretty much took all the power away from the coaches and management because he has to ok everything. If I was the coach I wud rather have a less talented player than one who completely upends the structure of the team and believe in the process that the team can get better. I know that u gotta be able to put up with stuff from players but there are really only a few players who have enough talent to stay in the league when the mess up the team like Aaron or maybe AB did
As a jets fan, this is all on rodgers. He needs to realize the mgt depends on him. Everyone has to be in sync with each other, and accountability has to come first. Good luck to the season...
@@th2k864agreed. He could prob get a defensive coordinator job almost immediately at a good team, if contract issues are not present and he wanted too. Every 49ers fan was commenting come back here when they saw the news lol
A HD is responsible. Who ever hired Hacket for Roger's is also responsible. I'm a Hawks fan our run D still sucks but Pete is not there to inject enthusiasm. Mike Macdonald and Grubb are good coaches. For some reason the Hawks start slow and have forever. I like Geno can bring us back but K9 getting the ball 5 times on run plays yikes. Slow start K9 had 80 total yards. As a player, I used to try and really run in warm up so my second wind would come sooner. Football is not set up that way. I played top level rugby that meant for me 80 minutes. I don't know how anyone comes off the bench in the 3rd or 4th quarter. Another football thing. I love football just not a couple of things
Patrica was a bad head coach and a shitty d coach he shouldn’t say crap he had van noy and couldn’t play him and yet sent him to the pats same defense and became a pro bowl guy
Bringing in AR to solve the Jets QB issues is exactly like throwing gas on a raging fire to put it out. Duh, I could see this coming 2 years ago. The Jets are a JOKE - but, AR is the NFL's MVP (most valuable princess) and Drama Queen every single year! REALITY is that in 15 years -AR will be barely remembered as just another "one and done" QB.
