Salem Band Mill 

My Dad was a left hand Sawyer way back when Georgia-Pacific Alcolu, S.C. had two Salem headrig. Unbelievable speed they both were powered by steam, 6ft bandmill.

Saw looks like it needs a spider gauge the way the front of the saw rubs going back. Heats up the saw and pulls tension out.

Should of cut more 8/4 off that. Shim the side open it more then take the 8 instead of the 4. When you take the 4/4 first then the 8/4 you are too deep into the log and risk the chance of the backside grade falling apart.

That mill needs a bull edger or band resaw

Weird, a left hand mill, im left handed, but i grew up around right hand sawmills, it just looks backwards.

That is a slow operation. How do they make much money? I agree they need more equipment to support the headrig, looks like he does it all.

I like the equipment but the Sawyer is wasteful needs to turn the logs a lot more and use shove outs.

I've seen faster sawyers on older circle sawmills. Why so slow?

Looks like a fairly modern mill. Filthy with offcuts and waste in the typical American fashion, of course, but that is normal.
