The books of Steven Kings are prophecy for the future if you read carefull. He predicted 5G and the mobile phones in one book in 1990 year. Read carefull the books of Steven King. He write alot and for the spirit world.
Also... that grave yard scene when a supposedly dead Danny Glick suddenly sits up and bites the caretaker.... the music adds to the terror. That scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. That window scene made me sleep with the lights on that night too.
I know right??? Was right there with you. When Barlow killed Mark's parents was really horrifying, but not scary enough to not notice the boom mike that didn't get edited out. Remember?
Nothing beats Soul and Kerwin. They had awesome chemistry. So well done. Hard to believe it was a regular TV miniseries Yep you youngsters. No pay TV of that quality back then.
Absolutely !!! And it was directed by Tobe Hopper (Poltergeist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) !!!!! :) It was scary, with a REAL and BRILLIANT mise en scène (influenced among other cool stuff by Hitchcock) and there was NO CGI crap or "woke" changes in the cast :)
@@StephenDedalus74 I think the original miniseries is saved a LOT by nostalgia. It changes some pretty key elements of the book (the vampire is basically an entirely different character and has a much smaller role), and while it worked for TV, I've always wanted to see a more accurate version. I'm not saying this one will be more accurate, I'm just saying the book is the GOAT version, not the miniseries.
@@generoberts9151 I watched the original few days ago on bluray, I don't think the original can be beat . Just like the Halloween movies remakes they tried and failed . Same with Friday the 13th remakes FAILED .
@gildatheplant I agree.BTW.I grew up in Hampden,Me. King use to teach at my high school.I never had him.He was gone before I attended. But met him in '83.Told him he traumatized me. He smiled and said "I did my job!"🌚 I lived out in the sticks in a creepy, old house with a rock foundation and a dirt floor cellar. It's where I kept my coffin.🤭🧛♂️
Me too. The trailer looks fun. I am not going to expect it to match the 1979 version but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. Hey - if it's soft then it could be a nice way to introduce my eldest to Steve Kings work.
Huh I did not know that😊. Thank you. But still I am still way out excited. Was wondering how they were going to incorporate all the technology into it..
@@markusforsberg6741 You are absolutely right, the Exorcist, Evil Dead, Pet Cemetery etc every single one has been a steaming pile of shit. Wish these people had originality rather than greed as a motive. They should talk to the writers and director of Terrifier
I saw the original when I was 14, it is going to be tough to scare me like then. The scene when the kid was floating outside the window scared the crapola out of me.
100%. It aired here in N.Ireland in 1981-82 in a two part series. I was only 10 years old, my older brother 12. Because he was in secondary school my parents deemed him old enough to watch it. I pestered them that much that I was also allowed me to 'stay up' and watch too. My brother and I shared the same bedroom and for months afterwards when we went to bed he would scratch the side of the wall and whisper 'open the window Phily'.
I'm very excited to see this. I loved the first TV series with David Soul. I was a kid when I saw it and it scared the crap out of me. All the kids were talking about it the next day at school at lunch and recess. This remake looks like it was done well, and looks terrifying and I usually don't like remakes. Can't wait till October!!!
I love that story! It's amazing how certain shows can leave such a lasting impression! I'm glad to hear you're excited about the remake-let's hope it lives up to the hype!
The fact you had a classically teained actor in James Mason playing against type only added to the great mystery of the original, plus Barlow was hardly seen. I remember catching it as a kid in the late eighties, the scene in the jail...couldn't sleep for days
It was my first vampire book and movie. I had to put curtians up and wouldn't set by a window for a long time. I think it was the only book that actually scared me😊
Me too. I read it in around 1976 & aside from King's other book 'It', 'Salem's Lot' is the only book I had to put down occasionally because it was too scary. Some of Dean Koontz's earlier books gave me the heebie jeebies too.
I hear you haha. My headboard was against the window and I wd pull the bed out away and sleep the other way with the 'safety' of my highlight on. Still love being scared and never ever have a bed near a window ;)
Because, as good as it was, (and I love the '79 Tobey Hooper film too! 🙌) None of the characters from the novel were depicted correctly. Ben Mears wasn't blond, Barlow and Strakers looks were switched, and many of the characters names were changed (ie, Ned Tebbet was supposed to be Floyd Tibbits, etc) the '04 remake was fun, but they set the time in 2004 instead of the 70s and changed the time of year as well from spring to early winter. Rob Lowe was a great Ben Mears though.
Pro tip: “The original movie’s Vampire was frightening” means exactly the same thing as if you add the unnecessary (and dumb ass sounding) “literally”. Your welcome.
I remember watching the original as 10 year old kid…. The scene with Danny tapping on the second story window asking to be let in gave me the creeps. Very tough time trying to go sleep with the moonlit shadows going against the wall. 😅😊😂 Looking forward to this version.
The original was a 2 part made for TV movie on CBS. There was a scene at the very end that would have set up a series, premising the main characters going out searching the world for vampires. That idea was abandoned, and it was cut from a rerun a year later and all subsequent showings.
You know it's not gonna be up to the calibre of the David Soul version, when they try and cram it all into a 1hr 53mins movie. Sorry guys, this is gonna be like the Pet Sematary remake from a few years back...bad!!
Nothing can compare to the original with it's superb cast - James Mason! This new jazzed up Hollywood adaption with all sorts of colour filters, has been described as the scooby-doo version.
I completely agree! The original had such a unique charm, and the cast really brought those characters to life in a way that's hard to replicate. #SalemsLot
Hasn't got a chance in hell of being as effective as the 1979 miniseries - that one is SO good I don't know why they continue to do these remakes of it.
For one thing, as good as the 1979 version was, there was a ton of stuff that was left out of that version from the novel. Maybe this version will right some of those.
@@jonmcb168 Nothing racist in my comment. I just think that some modern actors don't have the same gravitas as those that came up through the studio system. You need to stop seeing things that aren't there in people's posts.
@@jonmcb168 *"im jus trolling u-"* Accusing someone of being racist or associating them with a racist time despite a total lack of evidence to support that characterization of them... If that's what you consider "trolling", that's actually as frightening as it is disgusting. THIS is a prime example of why the cycle of trivializing genuine racism is still going. Far too many people (especially in the current generation) throw the word around too liberally today, which disrespects victims of racism.
Don't want to get my hopes up... I want this to be good.. the story the legend the novel ..will keep you up at night and live in your head forever.. It deserves a good movie again... the 70's version is worth watching today
I feel you! It's like getting excited for a sequel, only to find out it's just a poorly made prequel. Let's hope this new one doesn’t end up being the “decaf coffee” of adaptations-looks good but leaves you wanting more! #SalemsLot
I'm crossing my fingers that this and Robert Eggers' upcoming Nosferatu will be worth watching. It'll be tough to match, let alone top the original novel for me, as Salem's Lot is one of the few Stephen King books I've finished and I consider it one of the best works in modern vampire fiction. I'd put it up there with 30 Days of Night, Midnight Mass, Blade II, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Strain, and John Carpenter's Vampires, which are among my all-time favorite vampire stories (30 Days of Night, I consider one of the BEST vampire films ever made as well as one of the best executed comic adaptations).
Can't beat the original. The creativity that went into the window scratching scenes with fog being filmed in reverse- so good. We'll see if this new one cuts the mustard in comparison.
The 70s miniseries is called a classic, but unpopular opinion here, it made way too many changes from the book. As cool as the vampire design was, it was a completely different character from the vampire in the book. I'm all for a new version if it's actually based on the book instead of just a remake of the 70s tv movie.
This is in my opinion , Not a remake , coz this is not what i remember from the original , coz the original is still in my top 20 best vampire movies that i have ever seen (totally creeped me out!!!) This a re- telling x
I'll be honest I was skeptical of this remake as the David Soul 79 version has been a part of my life since staying up late to watch as a terrified 11 year old..however this new final trailer looks more promising than al the previous footage I've seen of this new version..so I'm definitely gonna give this a go 🙂
The first trailer with the Gordon Lightfoot song was better, but I'll definitely give this a good. I'll sniff out anything from Mike Flanagan. It's just kinda odd that it's a streaming movie. This seems like something that could do really well in theaters at the end of October closer to Halloween.

As a kid oh how I remember the original movie. I didn't mind the 2006 remake but it was lacking, however, from what I have seen of this in the trailer it looks good
@@TerryWeir-d4g did you know that James Mason's grandson is cyclops from the X men facts by the way I am excited to see a blk actor to play the role of young kid in this series ( believe me I never got sacred in horror movies cause they never really showed us until the late 80' s so this a treat to me to see that HBO ALWAYS COMES OUT WITH SOME BANGERS EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE ,BUT OF THAT NOTE GIVE IT A CHANCE BUT FR FR 1979 VERSION STILL SCARE THE PISS OUT OF ME NO DOUBT) IT'S GONNA BE GOOD ESPECIALLY AROUND HOLLOW EVE TIME ENJOY
It's cool that they're giving Barlow his scary, Nosferatu- esque appearance from the older miniseries, but I hope they'll ALSO give him the brilliantly evil, mocking, sadistic personality he had in the original book. He made for one of the greatest literary villains I ever read about due to that personality!
@@anthonyharms6298I thought it was until the end when it showed the Vampire from the recent Dracula movie (forgot the name) that was just about the novels boat chapter. A good movie by the way that I highly recommend. Salems Lot looks like it could go either way. I remember in the original TV movie the vampire kid coming to the window was so damn creepy. But yeah you’re right this trailer is definitely fake.
I’m glad they made changes. I’ve seen the 79 miniseries so many times it’s one of my all-time favorites. I’d love to see a fresh look at the story . people are so negative. Don’t knock it till you watch it. If you hate it before it comes out. You’re just robbing yourself of an enjoyable movie. They’re not gonna erase the original no worries.
If people are gonna compare it to the original then they have already predetermined what they think. It's a completely different take on it. Open your minds.
Can't wait to see this. My favorite novel of all time. My only complaint is that they've never really gotten R.T. Straker right. They always switch Barlow and Strakers looks from what they are in the story. Straker is Barlow's Thrall ( Barlow is the master vampire). Straker is a tall Bald guy with a thin smile and sunken eyes, whereas Barlow is depicted as a swavv, smooth, unassuming look with classy hair. The 2004 Rutger Hauer(RIP) take on Barlow was actually great and Donald Sutherland's Straker(also RIP) was good too but failed to visually depict the original character with accuracy. Either way this will be the be SO good.
I completely understand your concerns about the character portrayals! It’s always a challenge to capture the essence of beloved characters from novels. Let's hope this adaptation stays true to the source material! #SalemsLot
I completely understand your frustration! It would be amazing to see some fresh stories and innovative ideas brought to life, especially in the style of James Wan. Originality can really elevate the genre! #SalemsLot
I would pay big bucks to watch this movie next to Stephen King. I have always wondered what he thinks of his book movies. Misery to It to this one. I hope he's been happy with them all. I sure am.
Good eye. This is a fan edit. The official trailer showed nothing about vampires. I needed something to convey that to the folks who don’t know what #SalemsLot is about. It’s Dud Rogers attacking Lloyd Tibbetts 😉
The soundtrack in this trailer was taken from the trailer for the new Nosferatu movie that will hit theaters in December 2024. But it still turned out great. This is proof that Robert Eggers' choice of who would do the soundtrack for his films could not be anyone other than Mark Korven.
Absolutely! Mark Korven's work really elevates the atmosphere of any film. Can't wait to see how it all comes together in the new Nosferatu! #SalemsLot
