Tucked in the middle of Colombia about an hour away from either Armenia or Pereira sits the beautiful small town of Salento.
First thing we noticed once we arrived to Salento is how many foreign tourist and backpackers wandered around this small town. It small streets and colorful architecture makes this little hidden gem a great place to kick back and relax.
The center square has a traditional layout with the town’s church overlooking the entire city. As with any traditional Colombian town the main square is where everything happens. From street side vendors to small shops and restaurants this is a great place to sit down and enjoy the traditional Colombian cuisine.
As you walk around the streets of Salento you will get to experience how people from small towns live their everyday lives. Working in different fields and taking it slow as this is their way of life. Salento is full of small shops and boutiques selling all kinds of handmade goods and souvenirs.
One of the biggest attractions in Salento is the beautiful view of the Cocora valley. If you decide to take the steps up to the highest part of town where you can get to see the entire valley, the tiring climb up the dozens of stairs will reward you with an impressive view.
