Hey guys...stay tuned, next Friday I have a part 2 to this video. In part 2 I am going to address questions about bp and skin aging/oxidation, will bp or sa stop working or will the skin get use to them, and address use in pregnancy and lactation
Im prescribed Benzoyl peroxide/erythtromiocine (which i use everyday-sometimes twice, along with a Salcylic acid wash in the morning. Are they too harsh to use all together everyday? Im wondering if i should start rotating my products/topicals. :)
Something about how Dr. Dray said "well hey guys!" at the beginning made me feel like she was saying hi to her best friends. What a sweet lady. Love her
I started doing the panoxyl armpit mask as you suggested, and I can't thank you enough! I constantly worried about my deodorant wearing off and developing body odor midday, and now I sometimes don't even need deodorant! It is something I thought would never go away. THANK YOU !
Just two weeks into using cerave SA cleanser and already noticed hyperpigmentation and break outs decreasing! Long-time acne sufferer here. Thanks Dr. Dray!!
Lovely me oh that’s my reg routine. She’s got a video about it too. Cleanse with SA in the morning and use a gentle cleanser at night followed by moisturizer then differin last thing before bed. I wouldn’t use differin every night use maybe like 2 or 3 nights a week. That with SA can get super drying. Hope that helps!
Folks do not forget sunscreen. I remember when I was a teenager and I had applied an ointment with benzoyl peroxide and then went out to buy bread. I returned with the area quite itchy and somewhat dark. It was just superficial but I realised how important sunscreen is when using these products.
Matheus Werly I start by this SO strongly. A year back I was trying to treat my chin with benzoyl peroxide and I did it every day morning and night and I wouldn’t put sunscreen on and it was red red red red. It’s essential to wear sunscreen with it during the day
@@tamrynedwards4896 It is very good that now we realise how important sunscreen is. I am thankfull that I had irritation by the sun because it made me create the custom of wearing sunscreen even before making my first appointment to a dermatologist when she reinforced that.
Omg it remind me of what I did when I was a teenager. I brought a spot in BP treatment, and I slathered it all over my cheeks where I had acne. It made my cheeks red, and my aunt told me boys shouldn’t be wearing makeup. 😂 she thought I put blush on. A week later my acne was gone, but cheeks where lighter than the rest of my face. My skin is even now.
*Salicylic Acid:* Mild acne, cleans pores, best for whiteheads & blackheads *Benzoyl Peroxide:* Moderate to severe acne, cysts, painful red bumps, kills bacteria
I’ve struggled with acne for 2 years and for me I’ve noticed that salicylic acid helps control the surface level pimples but benzoyl peroxide is extremely affective in dealing with acne as a whole and deeper penetrating acne. So if you have minor pimples I’d say go with salicylic acid but if you can acne that’s flared up and red then go with benzoyl peroxide
I am currently studying for my medical board exam. Your videos make me so happy because they make me feel like I'm studying when really I am taking my "mandatory daily Dr Dray study break" lol. Thank you for making my day (and 572k other's days)
I'm 55 and still get a bumpy forehead, especially in warmer weather. Using a Stridex pad with salicylic acid clears it up right away. I can't believe at my age, I'm still buying acne products. As long as I use it, my skin is great.
I used Benzoyl Peroxide spot treatment for years and years when I was younger but I found that it was less effective for acne when I got older. I switched to a salicylic acid spot treatment and I worked way better. I know you said bacteria doesn’t become resistant to benzoyl peroxide.. maybe the type of acne I had when I was younger is different than the type I have now.
Ofc I'm in minority in liking a hyped product.. For me it makes my skin worse on daily use.. Can only use it few times a week.. It also makes my skin drier.. I saw they have a lotion version of it which is more hydrating n gentle and one that is for sensitive skin n it's 1% instead of 2... Should've tried one of..
I keep coming back to this video. It helps a lot since I don't want to go to the derm 4-6 times a year every time I reassess my skincare regiment. Thank you so much for the breadth and depth of info, Dr. Dray! I feel like I can make actual informed decisions about my skin. Much more helpful than spending 20 min with my dermatologist lol
so true! my dermatologist is decent but he dosen’t explain anything; he gave me azeliac acid once and that was it didn’t explain why or how often etc I learned everything I needed to learn on youtube 🤣🤣
Salicylic acid use to work for me when I was in high school and I would get the occasional pimple but my acne got really bad when I started college and now since it’s hormonal I love using 2.5% benzoyl peroxide to spot treat those cystic pimples I sometimes get. The BP irritated my skin at first but now my skin loves it.
Carefull with that. I've seen endless people complaining about it on forums: it can have severe side effects ans create crust on top of the skin over time. It often throws skin out of balance for a very long period of time. American dermatologists love it for fast results but don't really care about long-term effect. Here in Europe it's far not as common as it is in the USA. It's always better to start from your hormones and visiting a good endocrinologist.
Dr Dray I have suggestions for upcoming videos. (1) Zinc as an acne treatment and zinc in general in skin care. (2) skin cycle - I know you have touched upon this subject many times, but never in full depth.
Same for me! I have tried EVERYTHING and benzoyl peroxide has been the ONLY thing that has cleared my hormonal acne. I get the equate version of clean and clear face wash (purple one). I use white face cloths and towels. It’s worth it!
@@iivy1818 I used 5% right off the bat because it's the only percentage of bp I can get near me. My skin didn't react badly to it which is kinda normal since I have a very non-sensitive skin. I'd recommend starting at 1%, though. P.S., I don't recommend doing what I did because some people are sensitive and can damage their skin. Use a lower percentage just for safe measures.
my skin hated benzoyl peroxide until I started using it as short contact therapy (10 minutes contact time at night and then wash off). Now it’s super effective at controlling breakouts without drying me out.
QUESTION regarding SA/BP. I am using tretinoin every night, exactly as you explain in videos. Should I also use SA/BP to clear out these clogged pores or just be patient and the retin A will do it all??? THANK YOU!! ***SO grarteful for you. Your tips, especially on moisturizing, have CHANGED my life in a matter of days. I'm so glad not to keep getting duped by the industry.
Absolutely love the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. It is so gentle. Using only 2 days a week along with the PC Niacinamide help tremendously with the flaking/peeling due to Tretinoin.
Thank you Dr Dray , You're the best! Since you recommended the Neutrogena Oil free (salicylic acid) acne wash for black skin, it's all I've been using for a month now and I've seen so much difference. I have also ordered the Zapzyt salicylic acid wash, I can't wait for it to come... Have a great weekend.... Love all the way from England! Xx
I wish you had been around when I was a teenager struggling with my skin. My skin has never looked better than it has this past eight months since I subbed to this channel! My niece is going to benefit greatly from all the knowledge I have now! Thank you Dr Dray 💜
OMG........you would make an incredible professor!! Who knows maybe you do teach as well. Captivating and well spoke. Your energy and commitment to the content you provide is quite impressive.
This is so helpful. I use both alternating everyday but I didn't know how they worked. I use a benzoyl peroxide leave on at night (every other day) and salicylic acid wash the following day. The benzoyl peroxide is the only that helps with deep painful acne - but my skin is really sensitive to it so I have to use it in moderation.
“mysteriously” bleached so many of my favorite clothes until i realized i was being too liberal with the benzly peroxide. not only does acne mess with my self esteem because of my face now its ruined the clothes i thought i looked good in 😂 lessons learned lmao
I was literally asking myself this question yesterday, perfect timing Dr. Dray! Also, I love your background setup and lighting. It's simple and clean but also soft.
I would love to see a video on what you think about proactiv. It’s keeps my skin clear, but I’m wondering if I could go for a cheaper alternative. Love all Your videos BTW 💗😘
@@jessicatyler1652 it's all about the active ingredients within the product. There are a few drugstore options that Dr. Dray has recommended plenty of times that are just as good if not better than Proactive. I personally like La Roche Posay and CeraVe so check those out for a more affordable option :)
I love benzoyl peroxide, it works for me. Thanks to your channel I stripped down my skin care routine, cut out fragrances and wear sunscreen everyday. Thank you 🙏🏻
I love your in depth analysis. You have saved my skin and allowed me to pass on information to help others and refer them to your videos. Keep up the amazing work Dr. Dray!
Dr Dray, I just wanted to thank you once again for putting up such a well structured video and sharing your awesomeness to us. I don't think you have any idea of how much your efforts create a ripple effect which transcends all over the world. Please don't ever forget that you are appreciated. We love you and God bless you more! Cheers from the Philippines.
THANK YOU! I recently started to break out with painful, inflamed red acne, and was feeling slightly lost at how to approach dealing with it. I’m so grateful for your content 🙏
I am new to your fan group… but man now I totally understand why people love u.. you r just an amazing source to get great trustworthy information… Love u and thanks
Such a thorough overview, Dr. Dray! Thanks for giving it to us in a nutshell. I’m glad you made this video so you can refer viewer questions to this information-packed video.
Thank you for committing to your presentations! You have helped me understand so much better how to treat my aging skin and help my teen son with his acne, and not waste money buying products that won't work or are targeted for a different audience. I'm a single mom and student, so I appreciate your overall message. I've learned so much in such a short time!! Thank you!!
I use salicylic acid daily and have seen great results. Only when my acne becomes unmanagable I switch to BP because its so effective on my skin but also very irritating..
Same, everyone just repeats the same information there (on top of that often incorrect). And I realized who I was taking advice from... none of those people are dermatologists lol
Dr.Dray is the best the information she gives you dont even get it from a dermatologist ones I have been to just write a prescription and send you off because they too busy to sit and talk most of the time I have had to do my own research to figure it out but it's so nice to see a medical professional make vedios and educating people regarding skin care in detail
Thanks for this! I started using Cerave’s SA cleanser the other day and it has totally changed my skin. Not even exaggerating, my face was so much smoother after the first 2 times I used it. I’d been using PanOxyl in the shower for the past few weeks but didn’t really see any changes, so I’m extremely happy
SA cleanser is working really nicely for me so far (and the lady at the counter said she loves it). Salicylic acid takes time to start working to it's full extent, but still.
Dr.Dray; Happy Saturday!! Thank you for always giving your YT family informative information that actually works. I have just purchased my first tube of Retinol 1% and can’t wait to see the results😁I live in NY and have spent thousands of dollars on dermatology appointments. YOU are the reason why I now have clear skin. I will forever be grateful to you, Dr.Dray ❤️
The timing of this video couldn’t have been better for me because I just bought Pan Oxyl foaming earlier this week to address slight Folliculitis on cheeks which I’ve never had. Thanks so much for your knowledge your awesome! Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend Dr. Dray! 👍🏻☕️💃🏻⭐️
I think formulation has a lot to do with it. As a teen, I used Neutrogena and it did melt my face off, especially around my chin and jaw. As an adult, I can use SA with nearly zero melting as long as I give my skin a break on the actives.
I started using a salicylic acid cleanser, followed by toner/essense, The Ordinary Niacinamide/Zinc serum, Neutrogena benzoyl peroxide leave-on mask treatment, then my moisturizer and spf. I've been using this for a few weeks now, and it seems to be working great for treating my acne.
I use the neutrogena foaming cleanser, the oil free salicylic acid wash, the benzoyl peroxide face mask/wash, and differin... along with a moisturizer. It's been working well for me.
Hi, Dr. Dray! Thank you for another informative, interesting and wonderful video. You are an exceptional teacher in that you not only impart your knowledge in a straightforward, clear and concise manner, but you engage your audience with helpful tips, anecdotes, charm and the loveliest, most impeccable manners. Thank you for all the effort and time you take to curate these amazing videos for us. Thank you so very much. Wishing you, your mom and Tybee an awesome weekend. Take care.
I use lower percentages of both salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide in the morning, then rotate between glycolic acid and retinol at night. It sounds like a lot but this is really working well for my skin and it looks nicer now than it has in a long time. It's so much smoother and more moisturised. I still get hormonal breakouts but my cystic acne is greatly reduced and the PIH is usually gone in a week instead of a month. My husband started using Panoxyl for his hidradenitis suppurativa after I heard you recommend it and that's improved for him too.
Emily Hefferon I have to look at the tube when I get home (I’m at work) but I will reply! I honestly don’t remember if it’s percent but I only use it at night and I use something else during the day. I will put everything I use in the comments & some tips they gave me for my specific skin type. Idk if it will work for everyone.
This is really interesting - had no idea that we don’t see resistance to benzoyl peroxide. I did my undergrad thesis on Tetracycline resistance in C. acnes and honestly it was terrifying how quickly they adapted and subsequently thrived even at super high concentrations. They’re tough little guys.
Thank you for sharing the knowledge. It’s super helpful. I’ve learned so much about my skin care and how to take care of my skin better ever since I found your channel.
Hello from Europe! I watch all your videos! I have changed my daily routine and love Cerave products, it worked on me with Rosacea, on my son with eczema and on my teenager daughter with acne. I am still learning about other products. Finally some simple way to see through the true and false advertising in Internet.
Really enjoy the information you share on the pathogenesis of various common skin conditions. So informative and interesting, great science content for those of us in the medical world or just interested in the topic - would love a "CME playlist for medical folks" or something similar, maybe "What your Dermatologist wishes you knew"! :-)
I used to try A LOT of salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide products but they would always dry out and exacerbate my already existing acne. I just have very sensitive skin but I do want to try that Cerave face was because of how hydrating it seemed in your review video. 😍😍
tried two different cleansing products with salicylic acid.. but both did not work. happy i've found BENZOYL PEROXIDE bec of you, Dr. Dray. Thank you!!
I found the first benzoyl peroxide wash that didn’t destroy my dry skin. I only use it once day when I have active breakouts - especially on body acne. It’s called AcneFree and it’s only 2.5% which is perfect. I’m absolutely loving it
Tabatha Poelstra I’ve been using it for 3 months, it works! It has same ingredients as proactive for 1/3 of the price. I saw results from acne free in a matter of a week.
Direct and realistic strategy on the way to remove the aspects that cause acne are given in this acne guide *AcneCureOnline. Com* I`ve suffered acne conditions for quite some time now and I am delighted to give the ideas in this guide a try. I would undoubtedly suggest this guide to my buddies
Great to learn about the 4 components of acne 👏. Also learned so much about SA and BP 😍 I am so pumped. I now plan to use SA on my blackhead-prone T-zone, and BP on my armpits 😊
i dont review Curology because that is medical care administered by licensed health care providers, so critiquing them is not exactly professional. I think people are under the misconception that it is like a product line, but it is a telemedicine service, so much different. Like asking me to critique your child's pediatrician.
