Here is the original mono version of this song which features organ lines not heard in the stereo version.

My momma played both versions of this song to me at the age of 10 and asked me what version did I like ... and this one just hits my soul with that haunting organ and I'm 45 years old now ❤

This was the first song I heard on my ship coming back from a Med Cruise. I was in the Navy and it was 1962. When we got in our home port of Charleston SC, I went the next day and bought this on 45! It was one of the awesome songs I had heard for quite awhile.

The spooky song when I heard it in 1963 on WMEX in Boston. To me the organ is the secret sauce of this haunting song along with the lyrics and of course the vocals. There are seemingly a dozen other versions on RU-vid which are fake because they don’t have the Spooky organ sound.

The organ is lost in the stereomix. Sad. Normal for the time there were both mono and stereo tracks, and they came out different. But not right to call the stereomix fake.

Just saying, when better cars are built, Buick will build them. However, ask the man who ownes one still a great packard slogan. Love my 32 light eight almost as much as my 49 Rivera

It's widely believed that Buddy Miles played drums on this song, but according to the arranger, Artie Butler, it was Butler himself playing all the instruments (using an Amplex tape machine) except for the guitar parts, which were played by Al Gorgoni and Carl Lynch. This song sounds so much better with the organ. The organ part makes the song! BTW, does anyone know the lead singer's name? I can't think of it. {Edit comment} I did a bit more research about the making of this song, particularly the vocals, and the lead vocals are sung by Lezli Valentine.
