What a lovely Seatrout. You are right fish do hide under bridges they have the shade that fulls them into taking. Not this time though but thanks for another excellent video. Tight lines from AUS
I have only had one fish pull at the fly under that bridge Norman It is about 6ft in depth and I have had more fish go for the fly above and below the bridge . you would think that it is a perfect place for a fish to be but they have the last word on that Cheers Iain. 🥃
Thanks Derek we anglers are extremely fortunate If we manage to catch a fish while we are out it is stuck in our memory . imagine having a hobby like golf and hitting a ball that must get a bit repudiative without any reel reward Cheers Iain. 🥃
Marvelous day out! Loved the sound of the reel and the feistiness of the sea trout. I never tried casting under a bridge with a Spey rod but you have it down to an art. Thank you once more for excitement, scenery and commentary. All the best.
Thank you Stevie I have whacked that bridge a few times and thankfully not Brocken a rod 🤞. the area is like a magnet to me it has dragged me there for a lot of years and hopefully pulls me there for years to come Cheers Iain. 🥃
Nice bridge view. Catch all sorts of brown trout and artic char on some of our rivers. Keep up the good work Ian! Sea trout really make a day's fishing in the rain worthwhile😊
Thanks for your comment Christopher I am fortunate to have caught several seatrout and when they hit the fly you never know where they are heading for . Cheers Iain 🥃
It doesn't take that much to make the jump . I fished for salmon for a few years with a single handed trout rod Neil. The best thing to do is have a look at local salmon fishing associations I have been a member of the Perth and District A A and have learned a lot from members as well as met some good friends ........ I also have had some fantastic days at the river Cheers Iain 🥃
that's a grand trout! We have a short pool on the river I fish that crossed at the mid point a old steel bridge, you get to see all kinds of weird casting with people trying to get a drift on the tail of it and there is always a length or two of leader hanging from the bridges undercarriage heh. I released a 12 pound hen yesterday that I caught on your fly, proving it works on salmon on both sides of the ocean!
I love to wander down the river at the end of the season Andrew and have a look at the trees and bridge It looks like someone has gone out there way to decorate them well done on your 12lb fish and also your choice off fly 😉 Cheers Iain. 🥃
Well done Ian loved the way that sea trout pulled line from the reel. Just something I've noticed down through the years where overhead cables cross the river is generally a great lie for a fish. Thanks for the video.
Hi Iain. Myself and a buddy are thinking of going to fish the Tweed end of July/early August next year. Where would an esteemed, well travelled gentleman such as yourself recommend ? Probably for 3 days
Hi Damien I think that if I were booking fishing for next year in July or August I would try and get somewhere in the lower to mid beats You have a couple sites that you could look at Tweedbeats and Fishpal Tweed they are the main booking sites for the Tweed and they give catch statistics for the beats and hopefully this will help with your decision Cheers Iain
I am sure that one day you will get there James I have a lot of rivers on my list and hope that I can manage to get a cast and tick them off as I go along Tight Lines Cheers Iain. 🥃
You just canny beat a handy bridge when the heavens open up! I know the area/river pretty well around there and those overhead wires made it all the more interesting. Nice catch and a good size. There's always so much more to cutting down trees near the river edge where anglers are concerned. I think you made the right decision....beer, dry out and a good meal! 😎👍👍
The water temp is dropping a bit Mr Mazo and its good to get into the car and get the heater going and warm my feet up before getting home for the beer the river below where the wires cross used to be a real hotspot almost guaranteed to have a pull at the fly is it a singe of lack of fish or the change in habitat ....... Cheers Iain. 🥃
it used to be common practise to cast upstream on many rivers for those that wanted to fowl hook fish ...... They would cast upstream with a heavy sinking line and a large treble hook and as it swung round they would pull hard on the rod I the hope of hooking a fish . It has over the years since that practise has been stopped to cast downstream in the knowledge that anglers are not intending to deliberately fowl hook fish. Cheers Iain. 🥃
Bloody nice conditioned and beautiful markings on the sea trout Iain . I got one at night in Loen , Norway with similar markings and it pulled the scales down to 5.4 kg . Most beautiful trout I’ve ever seen.
I had a cracker Stephen . I caught it about 500yards down steam and I recon it was about 14lb I have a blurred photo of it somewhere as it jumped when I pressed the button ...... what a fight ........ I saw an angler catch a seatrout that I recon was about 17lb but that must be about 40 years ago . he had a smile that I bet lasted for years cheers Iain 🥃
I hope that you are pleasantly surprised. I was out for a couple of hours late on Saturday and had two pull at the fly saw a few fish and hope to get out again soon. tight lines. Cheers Iain. 🥃
I have been Bashing them for years and they don't give a sook James They think that the revenue from farmed salmon is the best . the money goes to offshore companies and it takes very few employees to run farms and spread disease throughout our wild stock keep telling others how bad it is. Cheers Iain.
