Welcome back ! Much though I love salmon fishing, spinning in larger rivers-once the pool/stream sequence is lost- is next to insanity in my mind. Until I packed in spinning I fished on small rivers here in N Wales, and though I will never match those days in terms of catches , I so enjoy using the fly. If you're going to pursue a sport which is essentially daft, why not go the whole hog ??
Nothing wrong with spinning at all in my opinion. By fishing fly only you're only limiting yourself to where and when you can fish. Keeping both options open gives you a wider range of knowledge and chances. At the end of the day you go fishing with the main goal of catching a fish and as long as no rules or laws are being broken why turn your nose up at it.
