To my mind, the only potential hitch in the giddyup for the Salmon French Toast Sandwich is the use of canned salmon. I don’t have a problem with canned salmon but this applications sounded…interesting? Of course when the recipe comes from Salute To Salmon Recipes published by the Canadian Fisheries Department in 1967 it has to use canned salmon, right?

I ran a sandwich club for 10years. Initially we tried to experiment chronologically but it eventually proved too rigid a format to continue weekly, so we just started picking at random. I was always surprised at how enthusiastic people became about trying new sandwiches together, but it's such a simple thing, with so much variation, it worked perfectly for a 2hr gathering. When I found this channel I was delighted to see someone else had decided to examine the finer things in life without filler or gimmicks. Hope this channel takes off even more than it already has. Thanks for flying the sandwich flag.

1967! Year of Canadian Centennial! The old people still talk about it 😂 Aka the year every Ministry put out something to celebrate Canada! The songs, poems, recipes! I love this and Canada! Thank you for a window of fun in my day!

You know someone likes your channel when after the first addition resulted in a 'minus down' that I was actively rooting for the other two plus ups like I was a sports fan so you could "win" this Sandwiches of History 'competition' 2-1! I had to do a double-take on that spice jar - I have kefta rub of the same brand. Although mine is *cough* several years old at this point. Oops. But now that I think about it, kefta rub might also be tasty on salmon... hmm. If only I weren't the only one in our house who liked salmon.

For people dubious about warm mayo- it's just a fat at the end of the day. Think about it like butter. You can use it to toast grilled cheeses and as a potential sauce ingredient. ... But don't ALWAYS think about it like butter. Trust me when I say it is NOT substitutable into a box of mac and cheese. Yeugh.

Instead of canned salmon, used minced smoke salmon or even gravlax and instead of mayo, use cream cheese. That sounds perfect to me.

Your bread is sliced very thin I've noticed, it doesn't apply here, but a not inconsiderable number of your sandwiches are from pre sliced bread. Just a thought, I'm enjoying this channel regardless. Thanks for the content.

I was thinking fresh dill and a squeeze of lemon for the plus-up. But I get how adding that to salmon would be like adding bacon to most other sandwiches.

This is like a REALLY scaled down version of a canned salmon croquet/cake.....which are delicious if you enjoy canned salmon. Of course they are a bit more complicated to make and are also NEVER served with any sort of jam. I get what Barry was trying to do though (monte cristo).

No, can’t do that one. I can’t eat salmon from a can. Maybe if we do sliced smoked salmon, crème cheese, paprika, onions on French toast, I might be in for it, but canned salmon nope, cannot eat it.

@@dresk7958 I love peanut butter so that's all I have to say about that. When I was a kid, my mom used to hide foods I didn't like with the taste of peanut butter to get me to eat them and it always worked. Pills, too
