Brutal river! Seen some nasty $hit go down the last couple days. Russian poachers paradise! No wardens, guys with garbage bags full of roe, with 0 fish…WTF! I said something and while I moved away someone ran down from up river picked the garbage bag up from the waters edge and bolted, then as I looked in the water 8 yards from where they grabbed that bag, a half dozen skeins came floating by. These poachers have no remorse. Watch live cam dam footage at night, all the fishing at the sanctuary (dam). All the rivers should be closed down there as the ganaraska is right now. If I lived there, and seen all the split open females, in the bush, on the bank, and floating down the river, I think I’d contact the township; People there should. I’m sure they’d even get support from local and non local “anglers” that would support a closure like that. Salmon fishing/salmon poaching, down in Lake Ontario has gotten way out of control. The Russian individuals come in hoards, sometimes over 10 per group and muscle their way into holes and “squeeze” a single guy out of a pool; then they just start ripping hooks into the salmon anywhere the hooks will penetrate. I even seen them netting the fish with no rods or anything. Come on, let us take a stand against this. Someone in the township please start a petition.
Yes it’s sad and I blame the government. There are not enough fish and game enforcement officers to cover all the rivers and lakes. There is so much poaching going on and nobody can do anything about it. These people don’t have licenses and just don’t care about the damage they cause and give legitimate fishermen a bad reputation.
Close the river entirely, since shutting the Ganny down has no effect on the M Fers who are ripping the tails off the salmon. The closure of the Ganny just increased more pressure to these rivers that are thriving. Very shameful fishing ethics!!!!
They need under cover wardens that speak different languages; Especially the Russian language, guys with backpacks full of roe, so heavy the straps are breaking. Disgusting and disgraceful to call themselves fishermen/fisher people! No recourse for their actions either.
Also, someone in the city/town should call the news station and have them go there after a rain in the upcoming weeks, or even now, to see the garbage, fishing hooks, line, broken lures all over the baseline/spry conservation area; a beautiful part of bowmanville. It’s very unfortunate when the words “salmon are running” that it’s no holds barred on the Lake Ontario tributaries! !!!!
