Manufacturers description:
Get ready to power through uphills & descents with the updated X ULTRA 4 GORE-TEX. It is as agile as a trail-running shoe but with all the stability, grip & waterproof protection you need to tackle technical terrain. Equipped with a new chassis, the shoe is even better at protecting sensitive articulations without compromising freedom of movement.
Trail-inspired agility
Drawing on our trail-running expertise, this shoe is lighter and more agile, so you stay nimble on uneven terrain.
Enhanced stability
The new ADV-C Chassis targets articulations on the outer foot to optimize stability without limiting your mobility.
All-terrain grip
The Contagrip® MA outsole grabs the terrain, even when it’s wet or slippery, giving you more control especially on descents.
Features:
Gusseted tongue
The tongue is connected to the upper on both sides, preventing debris from entering the shoe, and keeping the tongue centered.
Lace pocket
Provides easy storage for the Quicklace™ lacing system.
SensiFit™
SensiFit™ cradles the foot from the midsole to the lacing system, providing a secure, snug, and virtually customized fit all around the foot.
Welded upper
Stitch-free upper construction provides a smooth, glove-like, fit and feel.
Protective mudguard
A wrap of leather, synthetic or rubber around the base of the foot that protects the lateral and medial sides of the foot.
Molded OrthoLite® sockliner
Molded to match the contours of your foot, this OrthoLite® insole provides superior cushioning, as well as breathability and durability, to upgrade the comfort and performance of our footwear.
Quicklace™
Minimalistic and strong lace for one-pull tightening. Easy-on, easy-off.
GORE-TEX
GORE-TEX keeps your feet dry -from the outside as well as from the inside.
PFC free
To help reduce our impact on the environment, no harmful PFC (Perfluorocarbons) are used to ensure the water repellency of our shoes. Our waterproof GORE-TEX models are free from PFCec (Perfluorocarbons of environmental concern) but may contain some PFC.
Thank you for watching and please come back soon.

Based on your type of hiking approach shoes with a full wrap around rand is your best choice. Salewa & Sportiva have great options.

Hi, thank you for your recommendation. I was looking into Scarpa and La Sportiva, but will definitely look at Salewa to. Much appreciated 🤗

Good review. I have the Salomon XA collider goretex and they have lasted really well but I prefer my Adidas terrex eastrail goretex overall. Seem to offer more padding and a chunkier sole for rocks etc.

Thank you, I really appreciate waterproof shoes and it’s hard to beat goretex. Although my daughter shoes with texapore membrane work really well too. Will have to make review of them, she likes them so much that I bought second pair ☺️

@@hikingdad2855 great to see. I'm looking for a grey pair myself it's between, terrex, Salomon and Columbia. They have their outdry tech so I might look up reviews. 👍

@@craigdavies1747 I’ve been doing little research about membranes and in the end most of them do their job and have different cons and pros. If my memory serves me well OutDry is not only membrane but also bonding technology that eliminates need for DWR. I would be very interested to see how it performs.

Hm it's funny it's breathable enough for you, I've never had sweaty socks with any of my GTX hiking shoes (Merrell / Salomon) before but I do have it with the X Ultra 4 to some extent, nothing major, but it definitely runs warm, something to keep in mind for hikers who are sensitive to that.

I do apologize for delay in replying, it was very long week. Anyway I wear merino wool socks (Darn though) for hiking and even on hottest days I never felt that my feet are sweaty or uncomfortable. Of course taking them off at the end of the hike was always a relief, but I have the same with any relatively tightly laced shoes. So yes, for me those have been breathable enough, which is of course as subjective as it gets.

@@hikingdad2855 Fair enough. They seem to be more waterproof than my previous GTX shoes, so I'm not complaining either, there must be a trade-off there.

@@nagygabor4177 I agree 100%, if you need waterproof shoes then there will always be some comfort trade off. That being said I’m really happy with this pair 👍

How good is this shoe just for winter conditions?Like casual wear and snow. Maybe some hill hiking but no rocks?
@hikingdad2855
@hikingdad2855 2 года назад
Hi, thank you for your question. To be fair I don’t think I can answer it as I haven’t been using them in snow. I would assume that for casual use those would stay dry but perhaps not warm enough for winter, had no chance to use them in snow for hill hiking yet. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful

They work well enough, I've used the (older) X Ultra 2 for several winters in Northern Sweden. They won't be enough whenever the snow gets deep enough to get INTO your shoes, though. So keep that in mind - they're mostly going to be useful for more casual everyday wear. To make a practical comparison: I can use them during the winter like I use sneakers/runners in the summer.
