I have an algae blenny that is hilarious to watch - he loves to sit on my clam and Toadstool without either coral seemingly noticing. He also keeps my glass nice and clean.
@@karennation3580 he’s not anymore with me, he did bite some corals often not destroying them, so sad he passed out some months ago, loved the guy a real character
Thanks for the vid! I would add a dragon wrasse to the list. They constantly re-arrange the sand, shells and rocks in a tank and sleep in the sand bed!
The only time I have trouble with hawks eating shrimp is if I add the shrimp after the hawk. If the shrimp are established already the hawks usually leave them alone. If the hawks are added first and haven't been in a tank with shrimp, I've noticed they are a lot more likely to attack the shrimp almost immediately. Specifically the flame hawks. I haven't tested as much with the long nose but I haven't ever seen one go after larger shrimp. They will still go after small shrimp though.
I have a red lip blenny and it’s the meanest fish I’ve ever had.... he would bite my hippo tang then run away and the tang could never catch it..... it terrorized my tang and it slowly started making the range more aggressive towards all the other fish and stressed...... I had to take the blenny out and now he’s living by himself in my 20 gallon quarantine smh
@ReefDork got a question. Fresh water aquarium owner , I want to get into reef tanks. Problem is I live in apartment building and while the floor supports 5+ tones can't have more then 500 Kg /m2. I was thinking of getting 120x60x60 cm (around 800 kg with sand/rock/equipment). Surface area is important so I am considering getting same tank or even a bit bigger but with a depth of only 40 or 45 cm . What is your opinion ? Your vids are great, i learned allot.
By depth, do you mean height or front to back? I'd never compromise front to back - it makes setting out your rockscape much easier and looks cooler. Lower height makes it harder to get enough flow for SPS corals cos the sand bed will blow around.
@@ReefDork Sorry for my error, I meant height not width. Thanks for the input. Will try to find a workable solution. In this situation what would be a good tank format in your opinion ? I m thinking 60x60x45 or 120x65x45. I wanted to buy the Peninsula 500 , like you have I think. I like the 3 viewing angle format but damn glass and water are heavy :S
Of those, I'd choose 65 front to back. Peninsula 500 is a good option. The best thing to do is find tanks you like in shops (or forums) and see what you like most.
surprised no puffers! I have anew tank so i was going to get a watchman goby but I need a mture tank? woul d ineed mature for blenny. Is the bicolor prettier or more colorful than tailspot blenny? Also surprised that oscellaris clowfish and also yellow clown gobies are full of personality arent they
Puffers are too un-reef safe for this list! I don't think you need a particularly mature tank for those guys. Clowns, yellow gobies, there are millions of characters in this hobby! 🙂
Had a sand sifting Goby for a couple of days. The first full day I had it I found it in the sump, how it got there I don't know. Next day I found it dead on an armchair near the tank. 😥They're jumpers.
hawk fish are hit or miss for me! I had a red one that had zero personality and hid all the time. I also had a specked one(dont know the name and I loved that fish. He had so much personality unfortunately I had to get rid of him because he bullied my fish to death and also ate my giant cleaner shrimp and BTW the red hawk ate another giant cleaner shrimp! Do you know if canary blennies eat algae? Mine has been in tank for a month and only ate one or two pellets yet he is still alive! so must be eatting something! Hopefully bristle worms!
@@ReefDork Thanks for the reply! I love your videos BTW So I am actually shopping for fish right now and I know you love yellow watchman gobies. Do you know if they will hide without a pistol shrimp? I am looking for active fish! I actually bought one about a month ago and for the first few days he was perched on a frag rack then he disappered for weeks. He swam out one day and havnt seen him since! I moved a big rock after he swam out and he was under it! I figured he would come back up but no longer there so I guess he just let himself starve to death! SAD! If I buy another I sure hope I have better luck! I just love their grumpy faces! lol I already have to many fish that hide in my tank even though I have no mean fish at all! Just clowns, royal gramma and a blenny
Probably can't - I have no experience of pico tanks. I'd probably go invert only, maybe with a catalina goby. Mad Hatters Reef has done pico tank vids though 🙂
Hello saltwater fish wanting to get some more clownfish and learn more how to breed them and I seen the new ones on a video is called Stormtroopers like to know more about that kind love to get some and there was a video about some kind of blue dotted clownfish don't know what they were so if you know could you show me a video about them LOL thank you
Nice video bud. Pretty much agree with all those, i have the mandies and scooter. My flame hawkfish is great fun tonwatch and after a couple of months he has got the confidence to come out more when im at the tank and even grabs a bit of food from the baster.
I had one that hid all the time! i was suprised because I heard they had somuch personality. He ended up dying though so might have bought him and he was sick. had hime for about 5 or 6 weeks. nevr had good coloration, not much color on bottom half of body! I read they need a highly oxygenated tank so maybe that was it because I started dosing nopox about 10 days before he died.
My diamond watchmen goby, used to be fun to watch... but not anymore. He grabs mouth loads of sand, and swims over the liverock, depositing it in crevices and over the coral. I highly recommend NOT getting sand sifters, unless they are tiny, or you have a fish only tank without live rock.
Very interesting & informative I enjoyed watching this.and I’ll be adding a couple fish from your list next time me I quarantine I might add scissor tail goby to the list. . I totally agree about The chromis and anthias and I would rather the rabbit fish over the tang.
Hmm, Blennies ... I can think of some I'd be VERY wary of. Plagiotremus tapeinosoma and Aspidontus taeniatus spring to mind as species to avoid, because they feed by biting chunks out of your other fish. Likewise, Meiacanthus grammistes might look pretty, but if it bites you, it injects a medically significant venom.
After watching this, I got blenny for 2 months and regret it. If you mean by good personality is always hiding in a rock 90% of the time then damn. He also scare little fish entering his rock. Don't get this fish if you have live rock.
You must not be bilingual because not every translation is supposed to be meant literally. Yes he is talking about personality but the term he used adds a bit more meaning to it as in for lack of a better word. Personality being one of them.
This is a list of very common fish with 1 slightly quirky trait. You don't mention a single fish with actual personality. You just talk about the very most common fish with a quirk to their traits like "Look how much personality this fish that only sits in 1 spot and does nothing has!". Porcupine puffer should top this list as they are considered water dogs. How about Fuzzy dwarf lionfish that meet you at the glass and almost worship you? Lame list
