Another great review by Joe. Red’s is a superb fly shop. I have purchased several high end rods and reels from them. Super knowledgeable staff, great service, great selection, and just an all round great experience.

Love the gear dumps! Doing some comparisons on the Galvan Grip, Hatch 7+ or the Nautilus CCF for saltwater. All are solid choices but still checking them out. Thanks for the heads up on the lines you’ve been testing, good intel 👍🏼. As far as your pants choice, they are light and dry fast but Walmart sells a pant that I wet waded in for two months this past summer and they were amazing and for only $26 bucks. Just an FYI for the angler on a budget….

I've used all those reels, the Galvan is on par and less money. My personal preference is the Galvan Torque, I actually prefer non-sealed reels overall. I've had a couple of sealed reels implode over the years, never seen a Torque or a Tibor fail.

Thank You Joe! What is your backing situation and do you cut the loops off your lines, etc..
@redsflyshop
@redsflyshop 2 месяца назад
My lines are typically quite new, so the loops are modern and very tough. I have never had failure at a welded loop, I have seen it once but the guy was trolling in bluewater. It was going to break somewhere haha! I run a pair of Triple Surgeon's Loops in my backing and tie about an 8" long loop and marry that to the back loop in my fly line.

@@redsflyshop Thanks Joe! Are you running 30lb dacron or something else?

Thanks for doing this! For these three rods and reels what are the qty of recommended backup rods, reels, spools.

Any time! Really appreciate the watch/follow. I would take (3) rods on a big trip, 8/8/9 or 8/9/10 would be my suggestion but you can certainly get away with an 8 and a 9 or an 8 and a 10.

Great video. Lots of good information.. I'm planning a trip to the Bahamas in March 2025 for a first time bonefish trip. What makes the Loon pliers TSA approved? It doesn't indicate that on their web site. I'm planning on only taking what would be considered or allowed carry-on for the flights without having to check any bags, wondering if you ever got stopped for carrying on what might be considered restricted at some airports, flies, pliers, nippers, etc.. Thanks.

I got yanked a couple of weeks ago for a fly reel in my carry on> I asked what the problem was. "anything that we can't recognize or don't know what it is can get you pulled" . Long story short I was able to carry it on after a short detour.

As always, another great video. I like Red's videos because they're not into pressure selling tactics in their videos. Joe does a great job of informing everyone of the gear he uses, but doesn't try to shove any item in your face. I'm up in Canada and although I've not purchased from Red's ( due to the exchange rates, shipping and import duties etc. ), I have bought products from local retailers here and his recommendations were spot on.

Which Tibor for a 9wt?
@redsflyshop
@redsflyshop 2 месяца назад
Riptide if you need backing capacity, but for Baby Tarpon and Snook and even Permit the Everglades is fine too. I use the Riptides all the way from 9-11, bigger is generally better in the salt.
