+Durk Derk the entire ranked system forces you to be competitive to ever get above rank 15. also saying that the game shouldn't be competitive just implies that it isn't a good game, but just some random trash phone game that you play 2 hours and then uninstall. Hearthstone is the most popular card game period. A game that used to be so great doesn't deserve to go down into the casual mobile game realm

William bock This is the best counter argument about hearthstone just being a "casual game" You don't get to make the most successful game in an entire genre, promote the esports scene and then try saying "it's not a competitive game" Like you said, the only way to be successful is using good competitive decks. Want to try and build your own control deck that is geared towards completely countering aggro? Too bad, aggro just does the same thing against every deck and STILL has a good chance to win against these control decks. What a fucking joke.

At this point I play my 40 gold quests (60 gold quests take too long) and I am done with hearthstone for the day. If I can get away with it I only play hearthstone once every 3 days for quests then I am done.

I did that too untill a month ago when I actually quit, because I had this exact realization. Doing the quests was a grind I did because I wanted the gold, not because the game had an ounce of fun left. And I've given up hope really, Blizzard has clearly shown that they don't want their game to be based on skill and insight, they want it to be based on tons and tons of RNG and just decks going face.

I agree with this 100%. I am that guy that he mentions that quit the game because I saw with the direction the game was taking after Naxx. Instead of trying to keep up with the RNG I quit because I'm a control player at heart and I got sick of losing to crap you can't plan for and play around.

@ReapingChronos Priest main here too. I agree, and what's more annoying is that they "try to fix' priest with pushing an RNG type of deck which is resurrect priest. It can be insane and trash at the same time. It's unfun to play, and unfun to play against. I played 2 years mainly priest, but i just can't anymore... Unfortunately i am addicted to the game, but at least there are some fun bad decks, ot i can play priest on wild. I might try weebverse though. I liked Duelyst, it just couldn't keep me playing. So i stopped.

Just switched from HS to Shadowverse. Not a fan of the art/graphics, but I just ignore it. Honestly, I did that with Hearthstone as well, to a lesser degree. Hearthstone has always been marketed at least partly to kids.

All games or at least all card games by their very nature are competitive; it's only a matter of how much. When you play a game *against* someone where the objective is to defeat them, what do you think that is? It's *competition* and to say otherwise only makes you sound like an idiot.

Soomin Chae And I addressed that by saying that it is only a matter of *how* competitive the game is. But also, Blizzard is mostly to blame for Hearthstone being seen as competitive on a professional level because they send horribly mixed signals by doing things like holding Hearthstone tournaments, if they don't want the game to be seen as competitive than they shouldn't do that because it is confusing and sends the wrong message.

But think about it from his perspective - If he stops playing Hearthstone most of if not all of his subs will stop watching and then he loses the only source of fiscal income he has; so he's basically forced to keep playing the game no matter how bad it is or becomes. How would you feel if the only way that you had to make money was something you completely hated doing (I don't know you, maybe it is but still) it's a shitty fucking feeling being forced into something you hate just so that you can take care of yourself. Then add people getting to watch you go through the shit and laughing and making fun of you for it (Twitch Chat) that just clouds and builds onto the problem and you find yourself in a living hell. I actually don't blame Reynad for being salty under those conditions and respect that he can take it with as much emotional maturity and in as much stride as he does.

Don't fuck with me saying that most of the gamers aren't salty. If blizzard would listen to him, i'm sure that the game would improve, instead of the complete RNG its been since Naxx. Plus you got shaman that went from worst class, to broken.

He's not "the one" who's right. Many streamers talk about how Hearthstone isn't very good. Even Kibler, who tries to spin everything to the positive, discusses how hearthstone would be better if they had listened to him. Hearthstone isn't a competitive game. Not when there are so many decks that can just kill on turn 5-7 with little to no counter plays available.

Because blizzard realized that plebs just love RNG. Yogg saron prooved that. Its fckin crazy that blizzard even came up with that idea, but even more sad part is - people liked it. And then they were forced to nerf it because it basically were included in every fckin deck and were deciding alot of matches. I think they need to nerf ragnaros to 9 mana now , because i think this blizzcon is gonna be decided by ragnaros.

Casualstone is a competitive joke. Game is absolutely horribly designed strategy-wise and it is getting worse with each expansion. Creators don't communicate with playerbase and don't give a shit for anything other than expanding the consumer circle while actual quality of the game comes last. Behind flashy animations, increasingly faster, dumber gameplay and non-interactive game elements. If it didn't have Blizzard's promotion and Warcraft universe behind it, nobody with IQ higher than 80 would play it. Most of the playerbase is in denial and that is understandable. I was for some time too because of the money and time I spent, hoping things would go for the better. They won't. Sometimes I get the feeling that Reynad is the only HS streamer that sees how bad and shallow this game actually is and that 95% of community is somehow oblivious of that fact. Guys, no matter how much time and money you already invested into the game, if you are not enjoying it, just stop playing. Send a messagge to these lazy money-grabbing creators not worthy of your time and money. This game is simply bad right now and it will probably stay bad because they don't have skills nor intention to fix it. They took the lazy money-grabbing aproach and adapted the game to super-casual public and their only interest is milking it as much as possible. I was playing since beta, invested a lot of time and money because I saw potential for a great, competitive, strategic but accessible card game based on a fantastic and well known universe. Instead, I got more and more furious with their game design choices, starting with GvG, quit a few months ago and never looked back. Probably one of the best decisions I've made this year. But I still can't stop watching Salty Sunday series when it pops up on my RU-vid suggestions.

Barnes should be a rogue legendary that's acceptable not a card all classes can use because it becomes broken for example anubarak is kind of underwhelming but you put that card in priest or warrior and you literally break the game card balance needs to be focused more on class interaction

I agree that would have been way better, but unstable portal was the same, still hated for when it won you the game. They should generally keep high rng cards out of the game, cards that either summon a 1/1 or a 10/10. How can this be fun. I think RNG cards should generally be BAD, like Yogg now. Compared to Barnes he should be a 1/1 himself, most of the time being bad but okay if you build a deck around him always hitting highmanes or yshaarj

But that's the thing he shouldn't be able to hit high mane right that's where the problem is like in rouge he can get good things auctioneer tomb pillagers etc but in hunter for example everything he gets is just obnoxious and hunter didn't build the deck around him the dude just went well I run high mane kindly grandmother infested wolf etc the power level is just way off and the ysharrj thing isn't really a problem like its so stupid and like 20 things can go wrong it's just a meme really

There needs to be more class legendarys and they need to be thought out more for example herald volazj just isn't a priest card it literally doesn't fit and makes no sense but that card in Mage or rogue in particular would be in everyone's list for sheer value imagine tomb pillager into volazj into auctioneer with two coins that's pretty good or tempo Mage copying flamewakers the girl so you can play out your hand for free or just plain spell damage they need better card designers blizzard dosent seem to pay attention to how their own game actually works it's frustrating

So refreshing seeing you speak my feelings towards Hearthstone Reynad. Im an MTG player at heart and this game just has too much RNg stacking to make it feel actually rewarding when you win. When i win it feels more like a "phew i made it through that one alive" instead of genuinely feeling like i outplayed someone.

Yes Reynad has a "dream" job because he makes money playing video games and people pay him to do so. but it is a job and people only watch him(in the numbers he is used to) when he plays hearthston, a game he clearly hates or at least cant stand some aspects of it. It just so happens that this guy's job is on display to people whenever he's working. Don't pretend that your job never sucks so bad that you never complain, because that's just rude. Everyone's job sucks pretty bad at some point. As it happens, this is that point for this guy. And he's right, for what it's worth. His job has been shitting on him, but he won't quit because he enjoys it. It's obvious from the way he talks about Hearthstone. He really does, or did, enjoy Hearthstone enough to play it religiously. Besides, he couldn't just "switch the game" because that risks making a significant portion of his viewers stop watching. Hence, I think, the paid promotions a lot of Hearthstone streamers have been taking recently; they're testing the waters to see how much their viewers want to see of these new games.

How would I fix Barnes? By giving it the Ancestral Call treatment, so he summons a random 1/1 for both players. This way it would work statistically better in greedy decks, and it could have hillarious fails vs those decks even when played by the opponent.

This is exactly right, I used to love playing and now I honestly can't find a deck that's fun for me to play. All of the 'tier 1' decks you have to play if you want to consistently win are boring and I genuinely barely go on the game anymore.

on the other hand, i'm having a pretty good time playing all sorts of yogg, resurrect, barnes and even alarm-o-bot priest around rank 10 and yeah it sucks to lose to bullshit rng, but i think it's hilarious to win with it, too. he says the hunter probably wasn't proud of that win, but i bet he fist pumped and called up his mom to check out the board state . reynad doesn't get very excited for anything

that's true, but I would think a 1/1 rag is easier to deal with than an 8/8 rag. I would also think having your 4 drop sniped by rag isn't as game losing as having your 8 drop sniped by rag.

it is WAY worse because barnes is literally a 4 mana 4/5, kind of a Yeti with the benefit of having the chance of winning you the complete game. Pulling rag early for instance, 1/1 rag might be easier to kill, yes but you have to invest mana into killing that rag => that ragnaros already impacted the board => you loose mana AND board control to total RNG. But sometimes barnes is just meh but if he pulls something good its over

Barnes is not a 4/5, it's worse. It doesn't trade with a totem golem for example, and the 1/1 is vulnerable to many hero powers. 3/4 and 1/1 is easier to clear than 4/5.

Greetings from KFT! Looking back, his points on Barnes are still pretty relevant. I'm not saying that EZ BIG EZ PRIEST is broken (I don't think it is) but there are games that you really do lose to Barnes on 4, and it just feels bad. Even playing the deck, it's cool the first few times, but after 50 games, pulling Y'Shaarj with revives in hand just feels like you highrolled your opponent for a free win.

I stopped playing Hearthstone during last month. I haven't even played with the new nerfs. All the ridiculous cards just took all the fun out of the game for me. I'd go in with a pretty solid deck that I've played enough times to limit mistakes but it means nothing when the other guy could just tuskarr a golem or card draw. it meant nothing when they can just Yogg and oh well the game decided they win this game. some RNG is fine but when it decides the game itself, then what's the point of even playing

Did barnes really win the game for the opponent in this video? It definitely swung things in the hunter's favor. But if that deadly shot didn't hit the best target, and that Rag didn't hit the best target, Reynad could have won that game. I think it's an exaggeration to say it won him the game. There were quit a few choices and interactions that mattered after Barnes was played.

I commiserate with him, being addicted to game so soul destroying as facestone/rngstone is genuinely harming peoples' souls. this was so good and people cant stop playing even years after it went to shit, myself included. every other day i log on, see my dailys sigh and think fml i hate this game

The rant at the beginning is amazingly true 😂😂 I gave up hearthstone for 2 months, because of the bullshit past rank 13: if you haven't bought the expansions and packs, you can't win. Not to mention I have the worst pack luck ever which ends up pissing me off. If you grind for 100 dust and then get shit, it makes you hate the game. I tried playing arena, which is nice when you get about 7-6 wins, but then you get utterly shit luck and it's even more frustrating. And I quit because they decided to kill priest for F2P players. I started again, and I'm kinda enjoying it, but it annoys me because of these cards and because of their design decisions. Anyways, rant over 😂😂😂 agree totally :D

The really funny thing is the rag hitting his arcane golem probably lost him the game more than the Barnes did. Also the side he doesn't tell is that cards that rely on Barnes like rng make the deck inconsistent and give you a lower winrate when they don't work out, sometimes losing the game. He seems to have no problem with this, yet when it does pan out he throws a huge fit. Barnes really isn't that op: take the games where your opponent playing him wins you the game without salt, and take the games where your opponent playing him loses you the game without salt. Play enough, and they will even out.

I completely agree with you Reynad, I've pretty much quit HS and I don't think I'll be back until at least next standard cycle. I haven't played in over 2 months and I've been so much happier playing other games with much less rng and much more skill. Naxx was the best time to be into HS, barring Undertaker. I'm glad at least you have been so vocal for change and hopefully Blizzard will take some hints and get their shit together and finally fix this game. I would love to see the game be rid of all aggressive cards, which is nearly impossible, and for it to be control and midrange/zoo like it was back in vanilla.

I had a situation where I felt like this the other day. Was barely holding on against a standard zoolock deck because i was trying to run c'thun druid to do my stupid quest. He plays knife juggler and forbidden ritual and all 4 daggers hit my only minion, killing it. I was just like 'fuck this I'm gonna go play another game.' Sick of the XD SO RANDUM effects.

Yes, the discover mechanic is really appreciated by the community and cards like reno were meta-defining in a non-RNG way. (unless you count card drawing as a heavy RNG mechanic)

You should check out Android: Netrunner which have some of the best card designers imho. Every card is printed by studying it's whole effect that could have on the game BEFORE releasing it. Also is the card game where the luck is the minor trait and strategy and plays really pays off.

Such a true video, like I'm not the most competitive player and only really play for my quests and do ranked while I do, occasionally I'll have fun playing the game and keep playing after my quests until I runw into some stupid shit that I shouldn't have lost to at which point I just concede and quit on the spot. I'm no saint though, like I'll run barnes in my Nzoth paladin because how can't I, like if my opponent can do the same to me in any number of ways why should I forsake myself from a chance at an easy win through getting a 4mana tirion. The power creep in this game is crazy and you rarely see any off meta decks like he said cause you'll just lose to something like that.

I want to know where these numbers come from. I don't mean "oh just look at /r/hearthstone everyone's pissed, it's so obv" i mean like... show me on paper where players are leaving in droves and are markedly less happy than when Naxx came out. It's not that I necessarily disagree, I've been playing a lot less HS lately, but I mean, it's all just anecdote unless someone has real figures on who's leaving and why.

I agree with most of what you say. i tried to come back to hearthstone after quitting around the time blackrock mountain came out, and it didnt feel good, I'mean, there are times that i really close the game after seeing the outcome of some cards like yogg and barnes. I,ve never felt so discouraged to play a card game i've already spent time on, and this is coming from someone who played yugioh for almost 6 years, during some of the worst formats almost any card game has seen. I'm glad at least we have dueslyst and shadowverse as and alternative.

A 1/1 highmane off of barnes isn't even close to the bs I've pulled off with it in other decks (rag/tirion/sylv/rhonin/antonidas etc.). The card is messed up rng.

ThePiru1 This is so easy to say and so hard to implement. Even Reynad only gives vague examples as to what constitutes "good RNG". Blizzard tries things and some work and some clearly don't. They just need to be more transparent and more willing to change cards.

a card should have random effects without vastly varying in powerlevel. Barnes pulling a yeti is a 4 mana 4/5. Barnes pulling a rag is a 4 mana 4/5 with "deal 8 damage to a random enemy". Thats the problem. if the card is slightly below curve to begin with with potential to skyrocket over it, its an unfun card. either it does nothing or it does everything. thats why so many people thought implosion should be reworded "deal 2-4 damage, summon 4 minus damage imps", so that instead of either dealing 4 damage and summoning 4 1/1's or dealing 2 damage and summoning 2 1'1s, a huge difference in powerlevel, it could maintain its randomness and the "soul of the card" while fixing its huge powerlevel difference.

I played hearthstone for a while and recently quit playing it seriously because of the exact reasons Reynad gives. You have these bullshit RNG cards that will randomly decide who wins or loses that frustrate me whenever I lose against it. Even when one of those cards wins for me, it still doesn't feel satisfying because I know i only won because of a RNG. Infact, I feel bad for the other player because I know I'd be frustrated losing like that too. This resulted in me quitting because more often than not I'd be frustrated rather than having fun or being satisfied because I won from being skilled.

I understand the salt. I uninstalled Eternal forever, because every deck is just OP legendaries, stronger than Dr Boom, and tons of removal for the opponent's legendaries.

I play very fun, greedy decks. They suck. The more rng there is in the game, the more I enjoy it, because I don't lose as consistently. Even when I do lose, it is more likely to be because of amazing or lucky things.

yh im starting to play hearthstone less and less.... im so fucking glad i havent spent money on the new expansion, otherwise i would probably kms since my ragequits come sooner and sooner with every day... tried darwin shaman recently... first 4 times i used evolve with totems on the board i got fucking doomsayer... and then i get bmed by my face hunter opponent, fantastic community... and i still cant "autosquelch" people because it would make the options menu to complicated (?!)...

theres nothing strictly wrong with barnes. His effect needs to not be legendary status, but almost every card game has multiple cards that will bring another card out of their deck. If anything it couod cause yaasharj decks or blood of ancient decks/ other decks with few minions to actually succeed. IMO if they just made barnes not random and a tracking that lets you puck minions out of your deck with a higher mana cost, it would be an amazing designed card. However the fact that its a free copy of a card that you already have, means that it empowers other cards that cant be used without it.
