Truly interesting. I wonder if the level of the guy's voice would go up if they were dealing with Pop Corn instead?
@jrmagnum
@jrmagnum 7 лет назад
@8:59 the corn is already on fire, it should be safe to smoke in here.

Blowing a nitrogen blanket on top and you won't have to worry about oxygen getting to the hotspots
@jrow84
@jrow84 6 лет назад
andy keller that will keep the fire to a minimum but it will still smolder.

Must have been close by to get an operation like that up & running in time to avoid further damages.

If this was popcorn I'd bring a dump truck full of salt and a tanker full of melted butter and we'll have us a party. Woohoo!

Great video. That looks like dangerous work. I bet that your business has over $1,000,000 invested in equipment.
@poogan1239
@poogan1239 6 лет назад
So this caught on fire just from sitting? No ignition source, just the weight of the corn sitting on itself caused it to spontaneously combust?
@poogan1239

Interesting!

Narrator was clear and to the point. A lot of whining about it for no reason.

I understand it's a HUGE volume, but is it possible to introduce nitrogen rich air to slow/stop the fire?
@johnferguson7235
@johnferguson7235 6 лет назад
They would need tanker trucks full of nitrogen and the silo is vented. It could be done but it would take a long time to cool off.
@jrow84
@jrow84 6 лет назад
It’s possible. I’ve helped do it on a much larger scale. It was a nightmare. Problem is the grain keeps airspace down in the pile so there’s always enough oxygen to keep it smoldering

Is that corn just garbage then, or can it be used for something? How about the bin? can it be fixed? couldn't this be prevented with temp probes or something? If that bin is 250000 bu, how much would the bigger one beside it hold?
@daddysteel3514
@daddysteel3514 7 лет назад
AL M lots a of questions yes anything can be fixed that's the only answer I have for u
@alm7707
@alm7707 7 лет назад
Thanks, I agree. With enough money anything can be fixed, anything but a dead horse. I was hoping that maybe Dennis Gregersond would reply.

It can always be used for Feed, or possibly Ethanol Fuel. Depends what kind of Corn it is.

This one time someone in my office burnt popcorn in the microwave and set the building fire alarm off and we had to evacuate the building, a 6 story building! The fire Dept had to clear the building before we could go back in. The smell was horrible. I can't imagine what this smells like.

The blurring method of separating segments is unpleasant to viewers. You can get an editing function which swipes one segment offscreen while drawing in the next scene to coincide with the exiting shot.

You know you have big silo when you can drive a loader in it

What's that unit of measurement, bushles? Never heard that before.
@ethanpoole3443
@ethanpoole3443 6 лет назад
Fluffy Floofer Bushel, traditionally 8 dry gallons or about 35 liters, but today it is often defined by a set nominal weight for a given commodity product that approximates those volumes.

8:08 that loader needs a rear weight
@tomjones9137
@tomjones9137 6 лет назад
A cheaper alternative: cover the entire silo with plastic, hook up some massive air pumps, and suck out the majority of the oxygen over the course of a day or so...any ember will be extinguished. Solved for 1/10 the cost of this operation....you're welcome.

@michaeljestice4234

Patrick Hickey that big loader would barely fit into a 25k bushel bin. A 25k bushel bin would roughly be 36 feet in diameter
