@@LORDFizzles those you found are probably story-related mission ones. You need to buy emergency signal scanner from scrap dealer on space station and activate it.
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but, if you are lacking the cash to buy lots of detectors, you can re-use the same one. Activate it, jump to warp, then put it into your exosuit refiner as the input. Back out to find your freighter, explore it, and your detector will still be safe in your refiner. Only one abandoned freighter per system I believe, however.
I had a suspicion that derelicts were the best way to get frigate modules. I think the derelicts are the most fun way to get them anyway so that's cool. Thanks for working all this out it must have taken forever.
Assuming a 1.3% drop chance per crate in a 53-crate freighter, there is almost exactly a 50% chance of finding a frigate module in one full freighter run
@@lieutenantgonadsercentages are not additive if you want to know the chance you have to do the chance of not getting them to the power of the possible places you could get it, so 98.7%⁵³ And that will give you the chance if not getting ANY
Crashed freighters are now a pretty good way to get them too since a more recent update (more recent than this video). And on top of that, you can also get bulkheads for your freighters. So to switch it up, do some crashed freighters with distress maps.
I can't even understand why this change was made and since it was made across the board there doesn't seem much chance that it was an accident. It's like a pressure that people really didn't need. Ya know what I mean? At any rate, Thank you for finding this and showing it :)
Thank you for ensuring this content was (mostly) understandable. INGL numbers and tables leave me a bit cold but the freighter run could be a treasure beyond measure. Great content.
I just ran it three times and got 7 modules. I also got a C class upgrade so I grabbed two bulkheads for the other runs. You get a TON of ammunition too. Thanks for the heads up!
Confirmed this still works, just got 2 frigate modules from one run. Bunch of tainted metal, some hadal cores, hypnotic eyes, about 3,000 ammunition, a million units or so, and a bunch of trade goods.
Love this video. I keep coming back to nms bc how immersive your gameplay can be. There are so many avenues that are so unique from each other to "grind" that it does not leave me burnt out.
Me too, always something else to do. From someone who has surveyed planets since release (Which did take its toll considering there wasnt much else to do years ago) I'm always coming back for more.
Thanks Xaine, great to see all the drop chances! I've never liked farming system freighters for salvaged modules so it's pretty much business as normal for me, but it is really handy to see which method pays off the best! Finally got around to running the freighter a couple of times today and holy heck, I got 4! salvaged frigate modules in my second run. This Derelict Freighter is legendary!
Agree, doing pirate runs on system freighters didn't feel right, especially given you're sacrificing hard-earned rep to do it. Never mind if you're someone who doesn't want to attack friendly ships.
Excellent video Xaine, what makes your vids stand out from others is 1. You don't talk arse and get straight to it 2. Always something interesting. 3 no in it for clicks, you actually give a shit, keep it up legend o/
Thank you for making this video!!! Helps a little to understand where to go! But yeah this can be absolutely frustrating at times!!! I’m just now starting on my frigate module farming… and was scanning for crashed freighters!!! I was working on getting the material teleported which costs 5 so I can pretty much have a huge backpack nearly wherever I go… the pain is… I had two at first then one and another one three in a row… after that… I spent TWO hours going from planet to planet in two solar systems… looking through crashed freighters… and the pain and frustration built up was horrible… I couldn’t stand looking at anti-matter and anti-matter housing… one after the other after the other!!! The RNG PAIN WAS REAL!!! It’s like games like this have a built in RNG negativity thing on purpose for when you need a certain item badly… it stops spawning but when ya don’t need them BAM they pop up left right and centre and the other item ya looking for then just suddenly doesn’t wanna show… literally it feels like some games troll ya on purpose to keep ya farming and going so ya spend more time and hours in the game… anyways ONCE AGAIN!!! Thank you for the video!!!
P.S I still didn’t find the 5th one after the two hours wasted… pretty much have three and a half stacks of 20 warp cells now… T-T and my ship literally eats a warp of 5% or less now… which I honestly don’t need so much warp cells anymore… THE PAAAAAIN!!!
Hey Xaine, thanks for the video 🙂I used to get the modules from farming a Capital freighter battle by shooting all the pods, landing on the station to save and reloading, that isn't an option now, I think I did 5 battle groups and got a single module. I found it super frustrating getting the modules in the last week, I now have the Indium drive blueprints and it is installed into my freighter, but to get every blueprint I think I need another 20 or 25 Salvaged Frigate modules, that will eventually happen but not soon, it took ages to get what I got for the stellar drives.
I only need another 12 to make my A class freighter complete. I started quite while back. It's really getting on my nerves hunting for those modules...
@@cookiemonsterdayz Xaine is correct, getting them from a good derelict with lots of crates is the best way of obtaining them now, I'll get them all eventually, but not right now 🙂
As much as I'm quite well versed in this game and know alot ("don't talk to me about boats mate, I know boats")... not once did I think to make a macro for mouse clicking through the dialog. I love how I'm always learning. And no, the video wasn't boring.
I just went through upgrading my expedition save freighter. I spent my game time exclusively doing blue boxes on abandoned freighters. My old technique was attacking system frigates, but my success rate was 0.00% on my unsuccessful attempts at that! Thanks for crunching the numbers! Cheers!
Thank you so much for this video! First run I got 2 modules, second run I couldnt believe my eyes as I picked up 5! Going to keep running this for a few days to get all I want from it :)
Hey I loved your video. Thanks for all the advice. I’ve been farming freighters for many hours right now. Non stop the same easy one.. sadly i think the rates got changed very much. Im not even getting 1 every 40 crates. Most runs 0. Sometimes 1. Lucky runs with 2/3 and twice 4. But also many times in a row with 0 drops.
Hi Xaine, awesome amount of work you put in for this, thank you :) I have found the best way to find crashed freighters on planets is to use the Minotour scanner and scan for distress signals. It will pick up freighters, solo rescue pilot mission as well as crashed ships you can keep. I do have 1 big problem with the latest update. The cost of upgrading storage slots in your ships is way to expensive and/or the storage augment drops too low. Thanks again :)
How do you get your storage augmentations? I like to salvage crashed A+S class ships to scrap. On my travels if a cheap A or S class ship lands near me I will buy and scrap if not too busy. A+S class ships when scrapped almost always drop augmentations.
Yesterday I found a system freighter with two frigate modules. I didn't mark it because it only dropped a C class frigate upgrade. If only I've known. Thanks for the vid.
I think about frigate expeditions as well. I'm sure salvaged freighter modules can come as rewards for those. I wonder if a certain kind of expedition could yield you more? For example, combat or exploration expeditions could yield a slightly higher chance of getting those in relation to an industrial or trade expedition. Could be a decent way to passively bring some more modules in while exploring derelicts!
Yes, Industrial expeditions. But you need quite a bit of them to get one. So it's more of a complementary way of getting them. I already got one. But I need like 11 more. So I'll have to do crashed freighters and derelict freighters.
Yo! My man! This is amazing! After spending a lot of hours raiding derelicts and getting one salvage frigate module per 3 or 4 runs I said, theres gotta be a better way. Then I found your video. I got 4 salvage frigate modules in one run! Thank you so much!
Yep, Those Frigate Modules have become a rarity! I never paid too much attention to the Nexus Missions, but I assume you get some there as well. Not sure if there are multiple, or just a single per mission.
aye the last but one loot table i showed was nexus, its only present on a single of the 4 or so nexus mission loot table, the medium one, with a 0.9% chance to be the reward from what i can tell
I started to comment that I thought I had received one from saving a freighter, but that was a bulkhead item. Would be nice to get a mix of both from saving the freighters though.
Salvage Frikken Modules are the bane of my new (old) player life. They didn’t exist when I last played, Now I need them to be able to call my freighter, which is a huge deal. I haven’t done any derelict freighters yet, but this might help. Thanks.
Xaine, shout-out to Stewart Young -Thanks! And to you for bringing it into Leviathan run for us! I'm on PS4 - today after completing Leviathan Expedition yesterday, I was not looking to grinding 50 modules just for a Freighter Matter Beam, 480 for Hyperdrive Upgrades, and 50 more for Frigate Consumable Upgrades... Now in under 200 runs I'll be rich in Memory Somnal Dust for S class mods, lots nanites, great !!! 👍 😀 IMHO The 1st 10 min was worth it very good research.
TL:DW Go to the portal address at 11:08 and do abandoned freighter missions there. I am not trying to denigrate the good work you put into this. Thanks for the information dude.
I feel system freighters are still the best source if you want to "farm" them. Warp into a system, go to the freighter fleet in front of you, check the cargo pods one by one, destroy ones with Frigate Module, another separate fleet will spawn close by, check those too, warp into another system, repeat. It's actually pretty reliable, there will be times when you get nothing, but most of the time you'll get at least one and other times you'll come out with three Modules.
Hey Xaine, great stuff as usual. Watching this after the Endurance launch. In the Loot_Table chapter, I wonder if the difference in the two loot tables (Crashcont_M and Crashcont_S) is that crashed *underwater* freighters still use the old model, with 5 cargo pods, instead of the new model with 6 cargo pods? Maybe underwater freighters are Crashcon_S? I haven't actually checked in an update or two if underwater freighters still use the old model, but I bet they do!
The underwater freighters are actually easier and faster after the recent endurance patch, I will get one module if I’m lucky for the underwater ones. Just recommend saving the game and reloading approach
If you don't mind cheating, there's actually a way to reuse the emergency broadcast receiver infinitely by putting it into the personal refiner after activating it and taking it out once you're done with the freighter (I think you need to fly away first to keep it). I think the last time I used it was during the 2nd to last expedition a couple months back, in case they fixed it since then.
Still worked for me today on PS4, as soon as I start the signal broadcasting I can tuck it in the Personal Refiner. The other thing is that for all the Somnal Dust from Derelict Freighters, when you turn it in to Polo for Memory Modules, Polo gives ALOT of those Emergecy Broadcast devices..;-)
I prefer using my scanner in the nautilus to find underwater crashed freighters. It's so easy to hop from crash to crash just looting pods and the drop rate is higher.
I really like your analytical approach to NMS game play and I always watch your videos. Myself I don't like doing the same derelicts over and over but since I need so many salvaged frigate modules I might make a exception. Maybe do this one a couple a times and then come back in a few days and do it again.
You can keep your derelict freighter detector (emergency broadcast receiver) and just cheese the game by using the teleporter at the beginning hallway of freighters - that way you don't lose the receiver to unseal the derelict. I haven't tested with this but it has worked 3 times in a row for me and I've built up a surplus of receivers
@@heishephaestion4178 I'm pretty sure to the teleporter at the records terminal. The weirdest part is you don't need the teleporters to get out, the door is just open when you get back (this is helpful if you're exploring every room, usually I get everything from deeper in the freighter and then backtrack to the first few rooms I miss bringing me straight back to the door)
You can't land on the other set of freighter, true, BUT you can shoot the big pods floating about and get a bit of goodies. Pirates will spawn if you do though...
Raiding frigates in outlaw systems is an excellent beginner/new save method. If you don't get the frigate module, you can be stacking tons of illegal loot for massive profit. Once you no longer have to worry about money for awhile, derelicts are open to you, along with whatever ship or multitools you could possibly want to buy👌
Yeah I do this. I always just did the cargo on freighters/frigates and left the free floating pods be so as not to hurt my standing/rep, but now I've decided to just tank my Gek rep 'cus it's so easy to get back. I now just go to Gek pirate systems and just blast everything, while saving my frigate missions 'Gek Relics' to use when I decide I wanna get my rep back. *Edit: Erroneous Advice* - I assumed rankings just bottom out at zero, but they don't; they go negative. I've just got all my frigate modules and decided to use up my saved up Gek Relics to get my ranking back up, only to discover I need 144 to get back to level one. So don't shoot the free floating pods that loose rep.
Thaaaaat makes more sense now, I was really thinking that there would be something on those frigates, but they weren’t the right ones, with those ones you get lucky if it spawns a couple of cargo ships which are usually full of gold
Thank you and great analyses. I noticed you didn’t mention the frigate expeditions, was this nerfed? I used to get a significant amount of SFM from these missions. I understand, it’s more RNG, but as a passive method I found it good. Of topic one of best things they added to the reward system was the Cargo Bulkheads as payment for defending Capital ships. Those where so hard and tedious to get before the update.
I watched a video on raiding the freighters and the lady got alot, this was a day ago. I tried it didn't get a single one, thanks for this info I'll subscribe to you.
12:38 crashed freighters on the ground have about 6 storage units with usually helpful/ expensive items, and can actually contain frigate modules / bulkheads
I know you said you don’t take damage in that menu, but you did. Your shield actually went down fairly significantly from a single hit ~20%. Good video though, I came here looking for why I’m not getting Frigate Modules like I used to and am leaving with all my questions answered, thanks!
Just been to that system yesterday and did the derelict freighter raid twice. Got two more frigate modules. It works! But its still gonna be a grind to get all the ones I need. I couldn't hardly find any anywhere on freighters normally.
I appreciate this, i found my own with 105 item in total, Blue Chest 52 Breif Cases 27 Lockers 20 Caskets 6 I realised you can find a freighter in any system, also once you scan hide the broadcast in your refiner, take it out, pulse drive then check it, scan, put it back in the refiner.
@@XainesWorld on average I was picking up 2 to 3 frigate modules, when I find a portal ans system ID I will send it to you :) making a habit of finding big derelict freighters now :) this has 11 sections with two maybe 3? purple rooms and two star ships in the first point of entry.
Awesome vid! I also found a system with a really awesome derelict like this, it is FILLED with massive rooms full of blue crates. I get at least 1-2 per run.
May 2022 - The best way is freighters in pirate systems. True you go through a few freighters before you get a module... but you can summon the anomaly and land hop out... and have a new selection of freighters. Buying devices is fine, except the best way to get the money to do so is Also raiding pirate-system freighters. So you get modules from the freighters, along with contraband that gets the units to buy devices to raid Derelict freighters when you get tired of the live ones.
Thank you so very much for this, X! You sound uncertain over whether it was worth it to make the video by the time you get to the end, so I wanted to let you know that it was! I've tried to map out that freighter as you went through, but you keep flicking around (yes, that was "flicking"), so I'll have to correct it when I do it myself! :-D Anyway, much appreciated, thanks! :-)
