I entirely sympathize with your strong feelings! Fisichella certainly deserved rhe highest acclamations during his career. Great singing, of the highest standard!
An incredibly beautiful belcantist voice, in direct line and tradítion with other great singers like Bergonzi e Tagliavini - why on earth is he internationally so much ignored?! And why can't you get his video recordings anywhere??!
I have been a fan since hearing Salvatore Fisichella singing in a Gigli memorial concert for tenors at Verona , in which he was the outstanding performer with tremendous applause . He has made very few official recordings , but over the years it seems fans have found live recordings like this one . I have communicated with Salvatore Fisichella via internet to his site and he sent me a CD recording of him singing a selection of beautiful arias . One summer he was participating in an open air performance at Massa Marittima to which I took a group of friends to hear this great tenor . I waited for him after the show , listening to him singing in the shower . When he came out we had a long chat about singing , relative to his entourage of adoring students . Salvatore Fisichella is quiet , self effacing and charming , his home is at Catania and I don't think he likes being away from home for long . Singers who get swept along in the big time may sing more performance than is good for their voice , worse still being asked to sing heavy Verdi roles when they are really a belcanto specialist .
It takes a lot of qualities- good nerves as well as a good voice to have a world class career. It s a very tough world. Besides ' political' influences. Some wonderful voices could not emerge due to not having all that . Even conductors ( re Carlos Kleiber) get to points where they shy away from massive exposure if it gets too pressuring on their lives.
Beautiful, strong tenor voice. Such perfection, such sweetness. And Edita is also so enjoyable. Thanks for this wonderful video. Overall and wonderful and inspiring performance!
I experienced Fisichella in Zürich, when I was young. Sometimes in the 80ies. I just have to comment that Fisichella certainly didn't need any amplification. The ring of his "thin" voice (as you call it - actually it's simply lyric) portrayed into the farest balconies and actually made my ears vibrate! I got so excited that I screamed my lungs out of my breath with "Braaaavo, braaaaaavooo". I was all coarse after the show... A. von Uri, Switzerland
Bravo Maestro Fisichella for this great rendition of A te o cara! Bravo also for the all high notes, very good and powerfull voice. And bravo for the fact you are a very musical guy. BRAVO
My only criticism is that, to my ears, he rushed quite a few phrases when compared to the interpretations of Pavarotti or Lauri-Volpi. That could just be my taste because vocally it is just beautifully sung!
Wow, Zorro can sing. Seriously, this is a nice performance, but a bit too fast in the male solo parts in the beginning. Still, Salvatore Fisichella has such beautiful high notes, always important for Bellini. Edita is great as always, singing beautifully while looking lovelier here than in the RIGOLETTO film with Pavarotti from years before. .
I heard this very performance on NPR during my sophomore year in college and taped it from the air. I had no idea that it had been video taped. What a nice surprise!!! I have been a huge fan of Fisichella for over 20 years. He is simply the best tenor in this type of music...too bad he isn't better known in the U. S.
It is the most beautiful version I ever heard it this aria, including the famous recording of Lauri-Volpi whose voice and singing technique wich a fast vibrato was much similar.
His singing is great model to singers who has Lyric Timbre with extended possibilities go to Spinto Roles. I learned a lot things from this wonderful Tenor. Thanks for sharing
2ManyCs knows tenors. In fact, he has one of the most beautiful voices you will ever hear. I only recently stumbled upon Fisichella and can only think of a few tenors I enjoy more. Very few.
Dear Handrio Nurhan, Yes, that's well said. I got the joke :-) Well I would write "scream" within quotation marks in Fisichellas case, for he certainly knows how to project without screaming... ;-)
Catania isn't exactly a two-mule town. Maybe four mules - it's about two-thirds as large as Yonkers, NY, but, to be fair, Yonkers doesn't have its own active volcano. I feel deprived by his never having sung at the Metropolitan Opera. He was, and is, a true master of the art of Italian classical singing. Vocally, he's the last of the Mohicans.
I looked on Amazon for any of his recordings, they are limited. It just shows that politics again is ever present. When a voice like this is over shadowed by the Rockwell Blake's of the world.
@@beachfanatic2010 Do you have ears? How can you say, that Pavarotti was light tenore? Yes he was lyric tenore, but he was lyrico spinto, very powerful? Have you listened him live in the theatre?
