Sam Brown talks us through her career, personal life, the loss of her voice and the first music she's released in 15 years with her new album, "Number 8". Filmed by Miss Terry, edit by Miss Terry & Victoria Evans.
I was at the Concert for George, and I can say with total confidence that the concert kicked into high gear as Sam performed "Horse to the Water." She brought the house down!
A very talented and lovely lady. Thank you for all the enjoyment you have given us. Your performance with Pink Floyd was incredible. I very much understand the sadness of losing your voice. To lose such a wonderful gift would be difficult to accept.
Number 8 is a truly stunning album. As soon as it was released and i first heard it, i loved it. Whilst i fully understand the obvious frustration that Sam feels at not being able to sing the way she always has, i am so happy that she has discovered a way to continue to be incredibly creative, and i hope that she will keep on writing, recording and releasing her wonderful material. That being said, i truly hope and pray that the voice returns. Either way, Sam is amazing and such a lovely human being and we will continue to support her however things pan out. Keep rockin', Sam 🤟🏻🤩
So great to see Sam in such a great place now after the devastation of losing THAT voice. I always loved her early work. All of the Jools Holland & Pink Floyd work just passed me by at the time so I was delighted to find it all down a RU-vid Rabbit hole a few years back. An amazing singer with such a great voice, as an audience we are lucky to have access to all those great performances.
Dear Sam, I was born in 1968. I was 20 years old when I served in the army of the 63rd Parachute Brigade in the former Yugoslavia in 1988. When I first heard your song, Stop, that beautiful song has been engraved in my heart ever since and I confess I was in love with you. I'm glad that thanks to the Internet I can tell you that now. You are truly unique, and the song "Stop" has remained unsurpassed to this day, I will listen to it for the rest of my life. And yes, until now, I am remained unmarried, I think it's your fault. hahahaha. My deep respect.
I remember seeing Pink Floyd in Hannover in '94 and thinking, "Wow! That's Sam Brown singing 'background' vocals." And then "The Great Gig in the Sky" came on and I was completely blown away! I was sad to hear that you lost your voice, Sam. All the more reason to be happy you're back.
Hey Sam, got to say a big thank you for all the great music over the years, and I'm glad to see that you have found another creative avenue. You're like a fine wine, getting better with time!
That's the performance that woke me up to this wonderful artiste. A beautiful, talentedi individual with an abundance of talent. Glad to hear this update
Omg she has an English accent! First roachford and now Sam brown....how could I not know this till now lol Btw I love how she hits that insanely high note in stop. Just an amazing vocal performance. Beautiful. An all time classic.
Love you and your voice Sam. It’s an honest and real voice. Sorry about the difficulties with it, but your work lives on. Let go, move on was my mantra in getting divorced.
Sam, my dear, they weren't looking at your tits... You have such a captivating smile that I can never look away from your beautiful face! Thank you for this look into your life. I know the loss of your singing voice is a bitter pill to swallow, but please counter that with the knowledge that the music you have been able to make has been nothing short of magical. You have given thenworld far more than we deserve! Love you always!
Hi. I always will love Sam Brown, with or without a voice. What a story in music and stunning vocal she has been giving us. Love from Norway, high up in the mountains.
You've given me so many great musical memories. From "Stop" and all your other solo work, to all your work with Pink Floyd and also Jools Holland, especially "Horse to Water" for "Concert for George". (BTW, have you heard the version of "Stop" that was done by Joe Bonamassa..?) Anyway, glad to hear your happy and enjoying life.
For Sam Brown. He blew me away in the Harrison tribute with the song "Horse to the water." I hear her almost every day with her pianist. I'm not an expert in music or voices, but there are many who call themselves "singers" who don't sing, speak or play very low notes or have a nice tone of voice and make a lot of money. I don't want to give names. You gave notes that went up to Everest and did what you wanted with your voice. Now it will continue to sing within different margins. It's fantastic how he sings and makes music. Good luck in life to you and your children. From Spain.
Sam's amazing voice was probably never really supposed to be heard on the Earth anyway. We were so lucky to hear it for the decades until the Angels realised and took it back! Thank you Sam -;You let us humans hear music intended for the gods! What a gift you gave us!
Wow nice to see you again Sam. Today I played “ a great gig in the sky” very loud in my house. I love it so much. This evening I was looking for “ Stop” on RU-vid and found this interview. It feel very nice to see you. Which you all the health and luck in the world. Greetings and love from Holland. ❤
The first time I heard Stop, I was stood on the Kop at Anfield in 1989. Not my usual genre but this beautiful song stuck with me. A couple of weeks later, I was at Hillsborough. Somehow, this song helped with the pain of what happened that day. A spectacularly talented and humble lady. Thank you.
I heard Sam live for the first time at a Floyd gig at Earls Court in '94. PHENOMENAL! She took me to another world and from that moment I was hooked!! There is something very unique in Sam's songwriting and performing. I am pleased Sam has found a different way to evolve and bring her undeniable talent to the world. Much love.
Sam browne just brought me to tears. Life can give you these unexpected heart breaking disasters that change your life....in ways that dont feel good. How do yoh come back?? Much love
I think that if Sam would have only preformed in the great gig in the sky she already succeeded 100% in life. That performance is so incredible in all kind of ways.
My parents had an album of yours. I became obsessed with your voice. You're amazing. I'll have to listen to your most recent album, congratulations on making it 👏
Your story is inspirational, but at the same time sad. It seems you've turned lemons into lemonade and you have continued your journey in the music world. I have the concert for George on DVD and crank up the sound system when you are featured on it. Keep it up, you have a great talent and it's glad to see you are still creating wonderful music.
Sam, In the pantheon of singers, I have a relatively small group of women that I consider unique. You are not just in that group, but set apart in so many ways. I will be cheering for you.
Dear Sam - I was very saddened to hear about your voice problems - I understand, I've been dealing with a life-altering medical issue for a while now. I have absolutely loved your voice and songwriting since the I first heard that lush opening to Stop! (plus an ORGAN SOLO? - in 1988? - FABULOUS!!). After listening to that and subsequent albums, my opinion is that you convincingly blew away the other female singer/songwriters of that time. I really like Sheryl Crow and Sarah Mclaughlin, etc... but there is no competition IMHO. Saw you on the Pink Floyd tour in DC, wish you could have done a solo tour over here. Love, Ed.
I only found my voice in my 40s and Sam was a huge inspiration for me. I remember seeing her sing with Pink Floyd and I remember just being completely stunned by her. Brilliant to hear more about her journey.
I saw Sam when she was touring with Jools Holland in Blackpool in the 90's. She is the only thing I remember. We were relatively close to the stage and I was a bit starstruck. Presence is an understatement! Brilliant. One the best our country ever produced 😘
Sam, I was at the Pulse Tour in Ears Court in October(?)1994 and instantly fell in love with you, although, I only knew you for "STOP" and your dad! You were phenominal alongside the other two girls in the chorus and in particular, I always go back to "Money" which I found bewitching!
I absolutely love her and her beautiful, tremendous vast talent. Was hooked since the “Stop” LP. Her albums always return to my stereo. There’s really no other singer and songwriter like her. 🩷
So glad this found its way into my ‘you haven’t watched this yet…’ list! I butchered ‘stop’ on my channel a good few years ago but have long admired Sam’s incredible voice and felt incredibly sad for both Sam, and the rest of us, when I found out that she could no longer sing the way that she used to be able to. I’m so glad that Sam is inspired again to make music…plus, it would have been a shame not to have that last letter ‘N’!
Samantha Brown. There is absolutely nothing fake about you, Or anything you have done in your entire life . Your voice i hate to say was , But it was the most incredible singing voice this country has ever produced . In the world, I hold Joni Mitchell , You and Kate Bush, in high regard . With Pink Floyd, Your backing vocals were extra ordinary "Great Gig In The Sky " Need i say more . The sessions with Jon Lord were beautiful , Among my favourites on RU-vid. You are a great songwriter , But you know what ? The most important thing amongst all this success , Is you are simply Beautiful, Internally, and Externally, A true English Rose. A trooper . God Bless you and God Bless Your mum and dad for letting us have you.
I saw you live back in the day in a pretty rough club in Queensland Australia and you were absolutely awesome - definitely pearls before swine in that particular club, but you rocked them out with possibly the best version of "Respect" ever performed.
I'm old enough to remember your Dad but I found you through Concert for George. For me you were the standout of that star studded cast. This interview was fantastic and interesting and hopeful and I'm so grateful to find it. Thank you.
Glad YT brought you back to my attention. You're one awesome Lady. X. So sorry to hear about your voice, I'm FB friends with Sheila Chandra and of course she's been through this as well.
Hi Sam, just found this youtube Thank you, nice to see you again after all these years since the Stop 7 inch I bought before being a dj for a short spell and marching into mediocricity of life. I have discovered my love of vinyl again since mum passed in 2020. For some reason I am cring my eyes out. Dad was a musician and had some singles out with bands with decca in the 60s he died in 2012. Thank you for posting this, time flies doesn' it. Take care.
One of my most favorite female singers of all time, I think Sam was also very underrated too but not by me though, and as far as I'm concerned she had a fantastic singing voice for sure! I understand exactly what she is saying about not being able to sing like she used too and how she cant get her head around it! Everything she said during her interview struck a cord with me and I'm now going through the same thing with finding it hard to except! God bless!
I'd love a vinyl box set of all your albums, especially now you've completed your name with the titles. I've still to purchase the new album and I treasure my signed copy of 43 Minutes!
Sorry to hear about your voice pet. I had a major crush on you many years ago :) I hope everything works out for you... or, indeed I hope your voice returns.
Kate Bush vocals and Terry Hall evolution for the 8 album - Sam Brown you are a national treasure. Great gig in the sky - these vocals should be flying with Voyager 1 & 2 in an ideal world.
Still a beauty. Talent - and isn't always wanting to be in the spotlight, being a beautiful backing singer. I understand the loss of parents, from cancer especially, and caught the voice waver when she spoke of it. I get the aging voice too - I can't get those notes anymore (in my 60's) and I understand why Hoyt Axton sang deeper and deeper as he got older.
Yes I have seen another video on RU-vid by Sam, Great to hear about all the musical vocals Sam has done ! Extraordinary ! I can’t really imagine how it must be to have had to loose one’s voice and deal with that ! Bless you Sam and thanks for your enthusiastic posts that show us all not to stop.
you've never lost your sharp tones, just recreated them! 'Great gig in the sky', Wow! and i didn't even know it was you, until today! Superb vocalist! Thanks!
good for you, Sam. Everyone I knew growing up remembers your wonderful voice. Whether as a backing vocalist or front-and-center, your voice and your presence was always so powerful. Thankyou.
No quiero dar nombres.
I'm so glad to hear Sam is making music again. It must have been devastating to loose her voice. She made a truly spectacular sound. I think I understand her when she talks about the moments of depression. I only hope she can find real happiness in life. ❤️
I can’t tell express how much I love Sam Brown. So desperately unrated in the public view. One of the all time best voices. Plus my girlfriend (now wife) kissed me whilst listening to her sing stay with me baby❤❤
Peace in Jesus every one ❤️🙏🏾❤️... Great watch here... For EVERYONE... "FROM EVOLUTIONIST TO CREATIONIST" BY PROFESSOR WALTER VEITH POWERFUL WATCH UNMISSABLE LIFE CHANGING WATCH FROM SOUTH AFRICA ENJOY ❤️🙏🏾❤️
Sam, I adore you and love you to bits. I guess that it was your song 'Stop' that woke me up to how good your voice was, but then seeing you singing with Pink Floyd in 1994....sure that I saw you with Jules Holland also, so I was an admirer... So sorry about your Mum Sam!! You seem such a 'Nice' Human Being and you're SO coherent, so Normal... humble. I had a good friend called John Brown (Fender Man) who used to play the ukulele with your Dad, George Harrison and Brian May (I believe). Did you know John....I imagine you did?
This is a GREAT interview! She had a fantastic voice. So sad she lost it and it led to depression. Depression is a terrible disease but they now have new treatments instead of throwing pharmaceuticals at depression and anxiety. They are using psychedelics now to treat that and PTSD and it is a very promising treatment for some people. I wish you well Sam but you still are a very beautiful lady and soul to match.
Excellent bio. Shitty heartbreaks, and exceptional highlights, galore. Same age, living in 80's London, I actually first heard/saw "Stop" while on hols in Oz, huge crush instantly, but my next encounter was seeing Pulse 10 years ago ... now, #DSOTM50 brought me here, and that's how I discovered "Injured". It's obvs autobiographical so the line 'There's always schitt, but life is great" made me smile. What a journey, so far. Hope there's more trip-hop to come
I'd forgotten how much I love your work. Thank you for putting me back in touch with it. What a phenomenal voice! A friend of mine suffering from depression was told to learn ukulele. It's impossible to be miserable with a uke. Turned out to be true. I'd love to see more of just you a uke, and some soulful songs! If that makes sense.
Loved you then, love you now. My first 'celebrity' crush. I still rmember the internview you did.. cant recall the show.. where a disembodied voice interviewed you and you made a cup of tea in the middle of the interview. So different! "Oh how i love my tea TEA in the afternoon, i cant live without it... and i think i will have another cup very VERRRRRYYYY soon" Glad you are back creating
Hey Sam, sorry about spilling the tea on you right before you went on stage in Foxboro Mass, during the Division bell tour. You were right about to sing 'The great gig in the sky' I always felt bad about that.
I still listen to Stop, one of the best songs of the late 80's in my humble opinion. I'm also a huge Pink Floyd fan, and I was delighted Sam featured on Pink Floyd's Pulse tour/album. I'm so sorry you lost your voice. Best of luck with all of your future endeavours Sam!
The Show Pulse by Pink Floyd was the best version I heard. And Sam Brown was simply passionate. I fell in love with the vocals Google Tradutor português para inglês Google tradutor emoji Google Tradutor anime
Loved this! Wonderful career; few people could even dream of it. Humble and forthright, coming to terms with big changes, and going in new, creative directions. Long may it continue! I lived in France at the time of "Stop", and remember the video being on tv almost every day.
Sam came to my attention via her collaboration with Jon Lord in co-writing Wait A While, then The Sun Will Shine Again written specifically for Frida - two beautiful songs with heartfelt lyrics. A wonderful talent who seems to have both feet on the ground.
I split wood (Honey Locust and Shagbark Hickory) with a 24 lb. Sotz Monster Maul with a steel handle without hash marks or pussy mittens in rural Southwest Ohio. Are you okay with that, Mr. W?
Oh no. Love you Sam. My fav song is stop. ❤. You will always have a voice. I’m a singer, that’s scary. I don’t make money out of it but miss it if I couldn’t do it. There must be a way you can get it back?
