Didnt realise he was saying airpods until the punchline. I thought he was saying people leave airports on the train and he was swimming around in a bath of airports. Yet I didn't even question it because it's Sam.

It must be a generational thing. I remember a couple of quite out there acts from FNL and SNL back in the day - the Irish guy with the slide show ("This poor bastard....no arms....") and the Herman Munster looking guy who played Eastenders on a harmonica ("I'm worried about Arthur"). I would have been 17 or 18 I think, and I laughed so hard. Objectively, they weren't THAT funny, but at that time, they just tickled me. Somebody's enjoying this guy - good luck to 'em all :)

Well since you asked: I find his weird stories/observations and mannerisms funny. He sort of uses traditional observational stand-up tropes but in a deliberately clumsy way, like he's messing with the structures and making punchlines from the "wrong" parts compared to what a conventional comedian might do. That subversion is really funny to me as someone who finds a lot of "regular" standup unfunny. A typical comedian would probably use the "I don't like the beach" bit to go on about annoying beachgoers or beach bodies or something, but Sam uses it to express bizarre grievances about ships not having brakes and fish having lights as body parts. I like how he frames those in a context that make them more surreal with lines like "it's like if you could only stop walking by grabbing a tree" and "I don't think I can come tonight, my light hurts" which were so funny to me, not just because of the line itself but also his delivery like he's mildly outraged about it. There's also this out-of-place eloquence and descriptiveness to the way he relates some things as though he's reading from a book or giving a speech, which obviously contrasts with the absurdity of the content and his general awkward mannerisms. The unexpectedness/uniqueness of what he makes out of all this, and how he phrases it, is why I think he's funny 👍

I've been spoilt rotten over the decades with some wonderfully funny men, so this guy has a hard act to follow. Unfortunately he, and a whole raft of so-called modern comedians the MSM force on us, fails miserably with the task of entertaining us and making us laugh.
@forksandknivesssssss
@forksandknivesssssss 10 месяцев назад
it must be fun twisting your brain in knots contriving conspiracies of comedy being “forced on us”. there’s a much simpler explanation, people find the act funny, and you don’t get the joke.
@nicky_nike
@nicky_nike 10 месяцев назад
@@forksandknivesssssss Forced as there is no choice, and if modern morons are so easily lead then that's their problem not mine. As regard twisting my brain, we boomers have brains and education. Modern snowflakes seem to have neither. OK, its you turn Einstein.

@nicky_nike
@nicky_nike 8 месяцев назад
@@kickedinthecalfbyacow7549 Not when you consider the choice may have been limited but the quality was far superior and of a higher intellect. The population had more intelligence and better educated back then. Modern society seems to have lost the plot. I'm talking about mainstream sources like the TV channels. Of coarse RU-vid gives a lot more choice, and guess what, I watch the comedians of old, people like Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, etc., non of the modern crap.
@eoghanclark165
@eoghanclark165 4 месяца назад
@@nicky_nike "The population had more intelligence and better educated back then"... I guess that's why your grammar is impeccable? 😏 Have you considered the possibility that you were spoon-fed quality content due to the limited access to entertainment back then, thus causing only the crème de la crème to end up being broadcast? Today there is entertainment everywhere, and thus you need to actually dedicate a bit of time to finding what you want. It's just the way it is. And yes, there is a fantastic amount of high quality comedic content online. If you don't have the motivation to find it, that's your prerogative, but please don't whine about "back in my day" because frankly it's cringe-worthy. We all love Monty Python, but comedy didn't die the day they separated.
