Feel sorry for Sam. He was in the Finals 3 times. He got beaten twice by his former college teammates Michael Jordan, and the other time lost to his former team the Lakers

Not to mention that Phil Jackson coached all 3 teams that beat him in the finals.

Such a classic Perkins game winning three-point shot and then came the Jordan game winning miss shortly after in game 1. The Lakers weren't at full strength in that series dealing with injuries and age but they still kept most of the games close with Jordan's Bulls and even game three in LA was an overtime thriller. I feel if the Lakers were at full strength, healthier, younger and had better coaching the outcome of the 1991 NBA Finals would have given Magic his sixth championship ring. The Bulls were healthier, younger, hungrier and sure got the benefit of most of the ref calls on offense and defense as well. Jordan put up some good numbers in that series but he's fortunate this wasn't the best of the Lakers Showtime teams he had to face and there were times #23 was even vulnerable in this series but Pippen, Paxon and the rest of the Bulls more than did an amazing job supporting him. It was destined for Magic to pass the torch on to Jordan in this era. Nonetheless, all respect must go to a great first championship win for the 1991 Chicago Bulls. 🏆

Ref calls? Go rewatch games 3 and 5. If Worthy and Scott were healthy the Bulls still win in 6. The Bulls were still not at their apex in '91. Their later teams were better than the Showtime Lakers. Sorry.
@SoCalBro.7180
@SoCalBro.7180 3 года назад
@@fabioburgos878 Nope. You mean the Chicago Bulls at their apex winning 90's championships when the NBA completely marketed them and practically gave them everything against a diluted league and contenders. I agree to disagree with you and the Bulls did get the benefit of the doubt on a majority of the calls and most importantly non-calls in this series as I have analyzed every game by the second. Magic proved even out of his prime that Jordan couldn't guard him one on one which he was supposed to be the league's best defender and 23 was indeed vulnerable at times. Also, the Bulls were fortunate that Pippen and Paxson got hot at key moments and Magic's supporting cast which wasn't even at full strength went ice cold. Even with the Lakers injured and slightly aged without Kareem, games 1, 3 (OT thriller) and 5 were close exciting games. Those games you mention could have gone most likely the Lakers way if their squad was at full strength and the Bulls were lucky to meet a slightly aged and injured Lakers team that wasn't the powerhouse showtime teams of the 80's at their peak. If Magic had Pippen in this series and Jordan's stars were injured he would have won his sixth ring. Sorry, 1980's showtime Lakers at their peak with Kareem would win a championship for sure in 5 or 6 games against this 1991 Bulls team or others.

@@SoCalBro.7180 lol, as opposed to the 80s when the NBA completely marketed the Celtics and Lakers. I guess you're forgetting Larry Bird's injured hand in '85, the Lakers going up against the crippled Celtics in '87 and the Lakers having to survive 7 games series against the immortal Mavericks and Jazz in '88. Not to mention the gifted '88 finals against the Pistons. Isaiah's bum ankle and the phantom call in game 6. Frankly the only Lakers team in the 80s that could have matched the 90s Bulls was the Norm Nixon, Jamaal Wilkes, early Magic teams of '80 and '82. Keep dreaming.
@SoCalBro.7180
@SoCalBro.7180 3 года назад
@@fabioburgos878 Keep dreaming about what? C'mon man! Do you got anything better to do than argue on my year old post? Joking! LMFAO! Without legends Magic and Bird paving the way with their dominating greatness and epic rivalry of the 1980's there would be no NBA or Jordan to market in the 1990's. Magic went 9 times to the NBA Finals winning 5 titles all in only 11 years within a tougher era without the level of favoritism MJ's 90's Bulls had in every aspect and he would have had more if his squads didn't have major injuries. In the end it's all about business and marketing though. Thanks for the tid bit of NBA history that I already knew about regarding all of those epic teams and series which you are proving my point that the powerhouse showtime Los Angeles Lakers teams at their peak of the 80's could more than match up and defeat a Chicago Bulls 90's title team. Honestly, any of the Lakers showtime championship teams of the 80's at their peak could defeat a Bulls championship team and that's my opinion. Magic's injured and slightly aged 1991 squad which wasn't even a powerhouse peaked 80's true showtime team still pushed the Bulls to 5 games and 3 of those games were close and exciting that could of went either way. The Bulls never won in the 80's proving that era was much tougher than the 90's to win titles. Like the great Wilt Chamberlain once said to Michael Jordan, "The difference between you and me is that they had to change the rules, so I couldn't dominate. They changed the rules for you so that you could dominate." That's Wilt speaking the God honest truth. Despite all of Jordan's greatness he still got more coddling than any other player ever especially in the 1990's to win his titles against a more diluted league and less tougher era of competition. Take care.

The Lakers lost in '91 because the Lakers management wasn't willing to pay Michael Cooper, Jerry West might be the most overrrated GM ever. If the Lakers kept Michael Cooper for that season, he might have been the difference maker. Michael Cooper might be the most underrated player in NBA history.

At the very least, a healthy James Worthy would have made this a 7 game series. Worthy would have spent more time guarding Jordan while Magic on Pippen, allowing Byron Scott to be more loose and free, only having to contend with John Paxson on defense.

Jordan was too little to guard Magic. Magic wasn't bothered at all on this play. That's why Phil told Pip to stick Magic from Game 2 onward and it made all the difference.
