I ended up having memberships to both one year, and my first thought walking into Sam's Club was "Woah, this is just a Walmart version of Costco" right before I remembered that it's literally owned by Walmart. @@whitmichelletv the organic and healthy selections is what made me switch. I have both in both cities on each side of me. I prefer Costco because pf what they offer AND prices are comparable. I got mad at Sams Club many times when I went home and did the math and realize buying in bulk didnt save me money and buying it from Walmart would have been cheaper per weight or per amount of the item. I do miss the click and pull pick up Sams had but they carried less and less of what we used and I still had to get more of my grocery items elsewhere.

I worked for Walmart distribution. It wasn’t that bad. They paid well and took care of us. It’s not like it was Amazon. As long as you worked a decent amount you were good. If you’re lazy no job is going to be right for you, especially at a large corporation where they track your production.
@NightriderXP1

@David Moore Again, I would quickly run away from Sam's Club if Costco built a store closer to my home. I have no loyalty to Sam's Club or Walmart. I don't like the way they treat their employees or customers. These stores are owned by the wealthiest family in the world who never worked a day in their lives, thanks to the inheritance they got from daddy Sam. They're obscenely wealthy but act like they're one step away from living on the streets. They actually believe that everyone is trying to steal from them. This is a family that has more money than they'll ever know what to do with, worrying about petty things and treating the peasants like crap. I would never have shopped at Walmart or Sam's Club if Meijers and Costco was around. Meijers is a high class version of Walmart. You know you're in the right place when all the employees are smiling, something you don't often see at Walmart of Sam's Club...

@NightriderXP1
@NightriderXP1 2 года назад
@@TappleSauce69420 Then why do your coworkers always look so miserable? It's usually not a good sign when none of the employees smile. And when half of Walmart's workforce has to rely on federal benefits to survive, it's clear that something is terribly wrong. The wealthiest family on the planet forces half of its workforce to rely on the government to make ends meet. Many of them beg for 40 hour workweeks, but won't get it because the Waltons keep hours below 30 hours to avoid being forced to provide benefits, such as healthcare insurance. Are you able to contribute to a Walmart 401K??? The Waltons think that all of their employees and customers are stealing from them. They would get rid of you if they could run the business without help from the peasants. Note, there are now very few cashiers. They can get customers to do that work for free. They'd do the same to your job if they could...

It’s not unusual to see unexpected retailers dominate smaller, more isolated markers in this manner (for example, that’s part of why even in 2021, Kmart has an oversized presence in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam). However, I’m willing to bet that the quality of Costco combined with their business model makes them a popular choice in Iceland, as opposed to being the only option. (Also, nice profile picture!)

Worked at Sam's Club through college and Wal-Mart DEFINITELY had an impact on things. They were hardcore about the 37.5 hour work week (absolutely no OT) and generally didn't do much to make working there long-term an option. We now have a Costco membership (after 20 years they finally opened a location within 3 miles of the Sam's Club) and we love Costco. Costco just feels cleaner and brighter and you can sense that the employees are, for the most part, happier.

We’ve been Costco members for over ten years since it became available in the area we lived in at that time. The Kirkland products are such high quality, and I have a lot of respect for how they treat their employees. WM is notorious for poor treatment of employees. Plus, we go with the higher membership because, we never get out of there for less than $300. I also like all of the organic products and additional services they provide, for example, we got our solar through Costco, and it was a great deal. Costco is always fun, SC, not so much, and their generic brand is not anywhere near the quality of Costco. We have a SC about 5 minutes from us, but we drive 30 min to go to Costco, the quality of the products, the integrity of the company and how they treat their workers, plus the great food, products and deals…we’ll be customers for life.

If they cost the same, and Costco treats their employees slightly better, then I side with Costco. My first job was Walmart. It was a easy yet hectic job that required no skill that anyone could do. I didn’t care about the pay because I knew it was a starter job and anyone could fill my shoes. But they treated us like shit. A packed trailer at the fastest would take 3 hours to unload. But we would sometimes get 3-4 trucks a night, and yelled at for taking too long. If we hit overtime, we were expected to take that time off before the end of the week, but the remaining crew was still expected to unload the same amount of trucks. On 2 truck nights, we would try to do one before and after lunch. But we would still get yelled at and sent to the floor to stock shelves and deal with customers. Turnover was about 3 months until someone just stopped showing up because that was our situation every single night. But again, we could quit at any time, and we usually did.

Surprised you didn't cover Costco's early days. We were one of the "founder" customers at Costco in Kirkland, Washington then Warehouse #2 in Spokane, Washington. What was the most humorous part was every hour there would be a buzzer going off. At the time warehouse clubs were new and people didn't understand. So to drive business they would have a percentage of the employees go outside and rotate cars in the parking lot to make it look like people were shopping there. It was funny to watch everyone go outside and shuffle cars but it worked.

As someone who used to work for Sam's Club, it makes my heart happy to see them falling behind CostCo. They are awful employers. They reel you in with a good wage only to make it less impressive by having you do the jobs of multiple people. I was running an area by myself that definitely needed 2 people to run smoothly, management didn't even deny it when I brought it to their attention. You also only have 5 points(sick days) you can use for the WHOLE year. If you're full time you get PTO but you shouldn't have to use your PTO every time you need to go to a doctor or something. It is nearly impossible to only need 5 sick days for an entire year. Compare it to Gap Warehouses where they often give 15 sick days for a year, that is much more reasonable. They also will not bend that policy for anything. Death, sickness, mental health issues? You're shit out of luck if you didn't have that PTO built up or you're part time. Myself and another employee were both fired within 6 months of each other for essentially having mental health needs. They didn't allow me a specific time to take my depression meds, which a consistent schedule is VERY important for. They told me "it's your responsibility to find the time". As I said, I was doing a 2 person job so I very regularly was taking my medicine at different times which had a disastrous impact on my mental health. The point is they don't care about their employees at all. The pay is the only thing they have going for them and even that feels like not enough when you're doing the job of multiple people. You were NOT allowed to clock out even one minute late or you'd get in trouble, yet you'd have to rush and scramble to meet that time because of all the stuff you had to do alone. Then they would be upset if something wasn't done right or was rushed. They are the MOST impossible employers to please, the turnover rate is ridiculous

My parents are members of Costco as well as Samsclub. Both stores are slightly different and don't overlap 100%. There are some things that costo has that Sam's doesn't and vice versa, and for the stuff that is sold at both stores, some of it is cheaper at Sam's and some of it is cheaper at Costco, so it pays to be a member of both, assuming you actually go to these stores and buy enough stuff.

I wouldn’t suggest being a member at both but if you can get one of their memberships on sale it would be worth doing. I think I got sams for $15 last 4th of july, and before that I got costco which came with like $80 worth of free stuff from groupon. What I appreciate the most about Sam’s club is that they tend to carry smaller items, where costco will always be big $10 valuepacks. If I recall correctly costco doesn’t carry cream cheese, which is annoying if you pick up a bag of bagels. Also, I like the grapes Sams club was carrying. Overall Sam’s club tends to have cheaper prices but usually not by much. I prefer Costco still for their food court and how good their kirkland branded products are. Also, I honestly don’t care how cheap Sam’s club products are, I probably won’t re-up my membership just because Sam’s club allows those 3rd party phone salesmen to harass customers. If I want cheap prices I’ll just go to the walmart nextdoor.

I was Sam’s Club. My girlfriend was Costco. Both stores are literally across the street (Wadsworth Blvd.) from each other in Arvada, Colorado. One day we went from one store to the other comparing prices and selection. That was the last day I ever set foot in Sam’s Club. It was not even close!!! I was shocked at the difference… in many respects, including cleanliness of the bathrooms. Can’t get more grassroots than comparing toilet seats…. Something one wouldn’t think should make a difference, but in this case, it was the final straw we experienced before leaving Sam’s Club. Yeah, we pooped a lot after those $1.50 hot dogs at both stores. Gotta have a fair comparison!

I've seen Sam's employees who became seasonal employees for Costco and quit Sam's just for the chance to get in since it would be conflict of interest. Sam's Club could not survive the way it does without Walmart supporting it, it's why Sam's has closed down many locations while Costco has seen record growth even during the hard times Costco was opening stores and giving raises. Costco has less stores than Sam's but makes far more money than Sam's does without including Walmart, and Costco is loved all around the world and recently opened locations in France and Spain. It's also huge in Japan, Taiwan and S.Korea with many of those stores alone bringing in huge numbers, I'm talking into the millions on just one store alone. My wife and I believe that our membership has improved our standard of living, so much that our families and friends sometimes laugh at us - until they, too, join. Our store in Jacksonville, Florida sells gas and wine, which is icing on the cake. Also have belonged to Sam's Club, but overall the product mix and "retail excitement" is markedly superior at Costco. Always something new and good happening there. Jim Sinegal is a genius, if not a saint. As others have noted, customer loyalty is through the roof.

I miss Fed-Mart! I never new why they closed. Thanks! I'm a Costco member since 1999. Sam's Club opened real near me later. Costco gas keeps me a member, since it's their located between my work (last 4 jobs) and home. Have only one Sam's Club gas near my home, witch means I have to fuel up three times a week.

Having been a member at both, I would give the edge to Costco. The stores seems cleaner and more organized, and the products higher quality. The way they treat their workers is also a plus. However, one thing that really annoys me sometimes, though this could be considered both a positive and a negative, is how fluid their inventory is. It's cool seeing their stock rotate and finding new things, but infuriating when you want to go there to get something specific only to find that they switched it out. Plus the ones I go to seem to flip the store layout every few weeks which gets a little disorienting sometimes. On the other hand, Sam's seems to have more name brand items (either good or bad, depending) and a larger selection, and also keeps a more consistent inventory. Plus, they have giant Icee's for ~$1, which I wish Costco had. A slight pity bonus I'll also give is that they never seem quite as busy as Costco, so parking isn't an absolute nightmare and the checkout lines aren't as long.

I work at Costco and we definitely do this on purpose. The idea is that you buy more stuff because you don't know if it will be there on your next trip. There is a star on the price tag if it's a limited item. Also we move stuff around so you have to look around more to find it and may grab some more things if you hadn't. They call it "treasure hunt" and that pretty well sums it up.

@@joshbrookens5226 I remember him mentioning this business model on his previous video on Costco. Yeah, the treasure hunt aspect is pretty fun, though if a tad deceitful and sometimes irritating. Brilliant nonetheless. Trips to Costco seem to always end up starting with needing to get maybe 1 or 2 things but then somehow leaving $200 poorer with a bunch of stuff we weren't even looking for, hahaha.

We had Pace in our smallish city and Sam's moved in '94. I thought Pace was better and then Sam's bought them. Sam's was okay until Costco moved in in 2013 and we switched. I like Costco better for almost everything except they tend to have less overall selection and might not get enough name brands that Sam's is more likely to carry more frequently. I am also on the fence of whether Costco not owning any of the merchandise is a good or bad thing. Part of me thinks it affects their selection. Another fact about Costco, they recently opened their own chicken operation so they could keep selling their rotisserie chickens for as cheap as they do.

I regularly save 20-40 cents per gallon on gas compared to other gas stations in the area, the Kirkland Signature brand is very good quality and more affordable than other brands, and the staff is always friendly and helpful, so my shopping experience has always been positive. I've already made back the money I spent on the membership (and then some) in savings compared to what I used to spend on Gas and Groceries this month alone, let alone the entire year!

You're aware that the way Costco sets their gas price is the Manager looks at Gas Buddy every morning and undercuts the lowest by 5 cents. So I call BS. It's like me comparing a supermarket 1-Day Only Club Special(loss leader) and Costco's normal price. Your hyperbole sounds like you did ALL your shopping at Whole Foods, or work in the PR Dept of the Mainstream Media, propping-up Joe Biden's failing policies.("Gas prices were $5 when I took office and they've dropped by $1.50!". "The So. Border is Secure!")

@Ron McMartin I have no idea what my personal experience with low Costco Gas prices in my area has to do with Joe Biden, but, as an example, I bought gas at Costco earlier this November for $3.05 a gallon, and when I drove back in to town, the local Shell station was selling the gas for $3.57 a gallon. I thought that was an insane difference for only being a few miles away, so I decided to look around each time I got Gas at Costco. Got gas the other day for $2.79, and sure enough, the Walmwart was selling it for $2.99 and the Shell for a little over 3 bucks. So again, in my personal experience, My Costco, where I live, is regularly 40-20 cents cheaper than everyone else in the area.

I have a membership with both Sam's Club and Costco. Each has their own advantage - Costco has better grade products and is oriented toward the shopping experience, Sam's Club is a good quick in / quick out with their scan and go shopping using your smart phone as well as drive-up curb side pickup (again, using your phone to let them know you are there) where they bring out the order to you. I prefer Sam's as you can find out what is in stock at the store from home (and order it on-line for quick pickup) while that is a secret with Costco.

I live in an apartment and shop mostly at Costco. I don’t think your statement applies to everyone. It's worth it for the gas which is typically 30 cents cheaper than the regular gas station. This saves me around $5 bucks a month with driving to work everyday. Over 12 months, that's $60, i.e. the cost of membership. Then add on the savings from buying the basics like milk, eggs, rice, etc. And I'm saving money.

I've been a Sam's member for 20 years. When Costco came to our town just over 10 years ago, I joined there too. I can easily say, for me, Costco is better and I do almost all my shopping there. It's something I enjoy to do. Sam's parking lot has smaller spaces and not the best taken care of. The interior of Sam's is not as bright or clean. The employees at Sam's rarely smile and when you leave receipt checkers aren't friendly. To me, Sam's Club is a WalMart with a cover charge. Costco's food court has better food, there are a lot more 'sample ladies', the food products sold are usually healthier, it's cleaner than Sam's. Even the clientele is better. That's my 2 cents.

I've had a membership for both of these companies. Costco is the clear winner for a few reasons. First, they have more brands that I easily recognize. Second, the overall feel of their respective locations was completely different: At Costco, it's not as obvious that you are shopping in a warehouse. At Sam's Club, you were in a warehouse, you knew that you were in a warehouse, and it was obvious that nothing much had been done to change that feeling. Costco was also a warehouse, but it was made to feel more like a "regular" store, albeit one with really high ceilings. But the biggest distinction between the two, at least that I've seen, is the location of their warehouses. While Sam's was operating in a less than desirable location, a location in which even the parking lot seemed to be lacking in safety and security, Costco was located in a much nicer area. The Costco warehouse and the businesses that surrounded it shared a massive parking lot that was well lighted and also had a reliable presence of security and, more importantly, police patrols. So, the overall experience of driving to the warehouse, parking, shopping, and then getting the loot properly stored and ready for transport; all of these parts of the experience, and the experience overall, fall decisively in favor of Costco. But that's just my experience with the two businesses.

I want to say one thing about it and one thing only. Jim Sinegal is a lovely man, and a CEO like none other. He'd push carts if he was on a store walk and they needed it, he'd jump in and box groceries. He was part of the team. He'd do warehouse walks of several warehouses, and yet always remembered you and took time to meet anyone that wanted to. He personally knew my grandfather through work even though he was nothing but a working stiff. They became friends. That is a man who I can support. My grandather passed away 8 years ago, but spoke fondly of him right up until the end. Jim Sinegal was and always will be a legend.
