I'm a huge Jordan fan, but they were unfair to Jerry Krause. Krause could have been executive of the year every year in the 90s. Those teams were perfectly put together.

Agreed! Jerry might've been an a**hole but he knew who to get to build a team around Michael. What gets me is the disrespect Jerry took from Mike & Scottie, Right in his face!!

This is also a case of Jordan protecting his legacy. Jordan jockers like to say he would’ve won 100 in a row, but the reality is he knew what happened to the dynasties before him. He saw Isiah, Magic, and Bird lose in their later years and decided he didn’t want to go out like that. In doing so, he protected the coveted “6-0” record that Jordan worshippers cite endlessly which implies losing in the playoffs is better than losing in the finals

Krause got all the blame because Jordan wanted to be an Owner after retirement (again). Openly criticizing Reinsdorf would've jeopardized those plans.

Krause and Reinsdorf wanted all of the credit! The players resented this, especially Jordan. Remember, Krause wasn't around when Jordan was drafted. He didn't chose Pippen either. That was the Asst. GM that discovered him. It was MJ and Pippen that went to the FO and demanded Rodman.
@PoliticusRex632
@PoliticusRex632 Год назад
@@buzzerbeater3350 no. That's not how it goes. Doesn't matter who "discovered" him. That's what scouts are for. Krause negotiated the trade with Seattle to get Pippen, then signed him. MJ and Pippen didn't demand Rodman, in fact Jordan's response when asked about acquiring Rodman was, "If it helps us win". Pippen was completely against getting Rodman.

@@PoliticusRex632 If he wasn't discovered, there wouldn't be a player to sign. The problem with Krause was he wanted ALL the credit! Pippen was against Rodman AT FIRST! Because Rodman had maliciously fouled in previous years. Rodman apologized and Pippen advocated for his acquisition. MJ knew he needed Rodman. He plays it cool now. But at the time he went to the FO saying he needed him.

Larry Bird beat Jordan in 17 of 21 head to head games between 1985-86 and 1989-90. Bird had better offensive and defensive rating in 13/21 games. Bird outscored Jordan in 9/21 games and tied him in one. He outrebounded Jordan in 16/21 games and outassisted him in 12/21 games tieing 3/21. Bird has an ever bigger lead in offensive and defensive rating over Jordan in playoffs. This period is Jordan’s peak when he scored 35 PPG in 1987 and 37 PPG and DPOY in 1988. So Bird comprehensively outplayed Jordan at Jordan’s peak. Jordan played better against Bird in 1991 and 1992 when Bird was injured and on his way out which make his numbers against Bird look ok. But take those years out and you find out that Jordan really got schooled by Bird.
@netplayer23
@netplayer23 Год назад
Bird: “That was God in shorts dressed up like Michael Jordan.” That’s Bird’s opinion! And, by your reasoning, “if you take out” Jordan’s SIX championships, Jordan was just a playoff loser! Stats aside, if you took a poll of players, coaches, GMs, game analysts, and writers of the Jordan era, the overwhelming majority would say that Jordan was better than anyone who ever played. But MJ himself said that GOAT discussions are ludicrous since they all played in different eras under different conditions and not always against each other! Even H2H, in a TEAM sport, you can’t make comparisons of individuals. Remember, the Celtics who defended Michael were way better than the Bulls who defended Bird! When the Celtics played the Bulls in 1986, the Celts had FIVE HOF players; the Bulls had ONE!
@HarmanHundal01
@HarmanHundal01 Год назад
@@netplayer23 Bird with McHale has a win rate of 73%. Bird without McHale has a win rate of 70%. That is hardly any drop. Bird wasn’t as dependent on McHale and Parish as you think. Who is defending Bird or Jordan rarely made any difference to them. Here is an example of depending on a teammate. Jordan without Pippen 74.4% win rate, Jordan without Pippen 52.8%. If you want to remove the effect of the teammates from the calculation then let us look at box plus minus. Between 1985-86 to 1989-90 In the playoffs Bird and Jordan led the other in 3/6 games in Box plus minus and in other games Bird led Jordan in 8/15 games in Box plus minus while Jordan led Bird in 7/15. Humans do get biased in voting. That is why there have been 3 occasions just in the 90s when the DPOY was not even in the all defensive team. That is also the reason why many people consider Bird a weak defender even though he led the league in defensive win shares 4 times while Jordan and Lebron have never led it even once. Bird was also among the top 10 players in defensive rating in 6 different seasons. Jordan for 4 only seasons with worse rankings than Bjrd too. But if you do insist on going by people’s opinions and votes then you must also think why Jordan won only 4 MVP awards in his 6 trophy winning years. That fact goes against your claim that everyone was just in awe of Jordan. Jordan’s own teammates like Pippen, Horace Grant, George Gervin dislike him and do not say that he is the GOAT. Jordan was a fantastic player to watch. No doubt his highlight reel is the best of them all. That no doubt had an influence on his image as well. But you must re-examine how much of Jordan’s supposed persona is a creation of media and how much of it is the truth. Also you must reconsider how much Bird must have lost due to being aloof and unfriendly towards the media. The numbers say that until his back injury Bird was better than Jordan both offensively and defensively, and by a big big margin. For me that is the truth. For those who look at numbers without context, Jordan is the best.
@netplayer23
@netplayer23 Год назад
@@HarmanHundal01 Did you even watch the game? Stats are not everything. There is a factor called “the eye test”. That is the reason there are scouts. Any guy who likes to cum by reading and quoting stats can say, “numbers show why X is better. But there are lots of things which literally cannot be quantified. What number describes intimidation or trash talking? What number describes jealousy? Systems? Coaching bias? What number describes politics (player X was our number 1 draft pick, so we have to play him even though the free agent trying out is actually better?) Please quantify courage, confidence, leadership? Here’s the thing: I absolutely love basketball; therefore, I love Larry Bird! But arguments about who is the GOAT are ludicrous for individual players playing a TEAM sport! Who was better between Bird, Jordan, James, Wilt, Jabbar, and player to be named later always come down to OPINION more than stats! My opinions are based on FIFTY FIVE YEARS of watching and talking to actual players, GMs and coaches. But, bottom line, I believe there are no wrong answers when comparing the all time greats! It’s all just just gum chewing: pleasing but not nutritious in any way.
@HarmanHundal01
@HarmanHundal01 Год назад
@@netplayer23 The eye test is subjective. The only thing it can answer is “Which player looks better” and not “Which player is better”. The latter question is best answered by statistics because put all of them together, look at the context and you have your answer. There is nothing disputable about the fact that Bird beat Jordan in 17/21 games from 1986 to 90 at Jordan's prime and that he did so by outscoring Jordan in 9 games, outrebounding him in 16 and outpassing him in 12 games resulting in a 10 point lead in both offensive and defensive rating. From 86 to 89, Bird also has the better Box Plus minus which eliminates the effect of teammates from that data. Jordan's stats against Bird look respectable only because after Bird's injury in 1989 Jordan was able to beat him more often.

@@HarmanHundal01 "There's lies, damn lies, and then there are statistics!"--Mark Twain. Of course the eye test is subjective. But so are stats because a person picks which stats to select to bolster his case. My entire point is that determining who's best in a team sport is chewing gum and stats are not necessarily a great measure. NBA GOAT? Depends on who you ask and what accomplishments they value. Russell's 13 rings? Jabbar's scoring record? Chamberlains dominance of the NBA record books? LeBron's NINE straight FINALS appearances and chips with three DIFFERENT teams? Etc, etc....

2 things can be true at once, and in this situation are: 1. MJ is the best player in the history of the league. 2. His team dominated in an era after all the great teams had faded away. The prime Lakers/Celtics/Pistons were in each others way in the 80's. MJ had nobody in the way. No historically great team to encounter during his run in the 90's. The Mid 80's Celtics and Lakers are probably the 2 best teams in history. There's no way MJ even wins 2 rings if those teams were around. The Pistons who beat him repeatedly became a lesser version of themselves and found themselves on the downside of their championship window. When MJ finally beat them, they were no longer the class on the league, they were an above average 50 win team and nothing more. The following year, they were out in the first round. So every title MJ won, was 100% earned, but it was at the most watered down time in league history with the former greats having faded away, mixed in with 4 recent expansion teams added to the league. You look at any team MJ beat, and a team like the 2017 warriors with Prime Durant/Steph/Klay, and defensive menaces Iggy and Draymond would have swept those teams without breaking a sweat. MJ's legacy is earned, but also was protected by a bad era of basketball.

All the Bulls finals opponents were very good teams. If MJ never retired then it would of been the Rockets who could of had a rivalry with the Bulls. Nobody is beating that Warriors team with KD when healthy. The fact is it was a different era and put of 24 playoff series the Bulls were only taken the distance twice. I do think the 6-0 just adds to his legacy. Kind of like how Montana is 4-0 is superbowls but Brady winning 7 just blew past him. I also think the Lakers would of been the ones to beat the Bulls in the Finals and it could of been a passing of the torch moment. Krause could retweaked that Bulls team with or without Pippen and Jackson. People hate on lebron cause he's 4-6 in the finals but its no easy feat to win in the nba or to make it to the finals. Plus that terrible Pippen contract helped the Bulls out more than anything. It allowed them to put together a deep solid team around MJ and Pippen. 55 wins when MJ retired and that's without replacing MJ with an all star caliber player.
